Whoa 130 pitches' date=' his arm has got to be feeling like Jell-O.[/quote']

He was amped up at the end. Still throwing gas at 93 mph. What a fantastic game

Yeah but he's never thrown that many before. You've gotta wonder how much of that was arm strength and how much was just pure adrenaline?

I kinda feel bad for Gom and Jacko now - every Yankee fan must be thinking that it should have been Hughes and not Lester.

Lester is amazing. He had incredible stuff tonight, 93-96 consistently with great location... If he can harness that all the time he is going to be a very good pitcher.

Who has the tome of MJ and his dissection of how mediocre Lester will be vs. the phenom Phil. I'm not that interested to look..but it's there. With great luck, I'm facing him this week in our fantasy league.

Phil he has. Lester I have. Great story. Improbable really. (Not the fact MJ is a bit of a boob...the great story about Lester)

Couldn't be happier for him. Love the kid. Brass balls, damnit insert any cliche you want. What happened at Fenway tonight was absolutely beautiful. JON LESTER, You are THE MAN! Brilliant from start to finish. Great, live stuff... couldn't be happier for him! Game 47: Royals/Red Sox - Perfection

Enjoy your spot in Red Sox history, Mr. Lester.

He went right after hitters and got important first pitch strikes and worked quickly which seems to work very well for him

Another potentially important aspect of the game: we have AAA callups starting the next two games, so chances are we're going to need some relatively heavy innings from the bullpen (especially since Colon isn't totally stretched out yet...?). So tonight gave them some extra rest, which isn't bad at all.

FWIW, Lester got no help from Brian Knight. Six pitches in the strike zone were called balls; none outside the zone were called strikes.

Knight was more generous to Hochevar on outside strikes. It's not statistically significant as bias--it's close--but certainly Jon Lester got no help from the umpire.

Did anyone move during the last 3 innings?

Obviously not or he wouldn't have gotten the no-no. Are you new? B)

And tonight is why this game is the greatest ever and I have no time for anyone who thinks differently. The movie Black Irish summed it up: Baseball is exactly like life. Most of the time nothing happens. But then, something does and you get all of the glory or all of the s***.

its interesting how there always seems to be a memorable defensive play attached to every no hitter like Pedroia robbing that base hit up the middle with Clay's no-no and Jacoby's diving catch tonight

I was thinking about this a bit last night and the first batter in the 9th for the Royals, I think it was Esteban German, had a 3-0 count and took a fastball down the middle. I'm really not sure why he did that as that was probably the Royals best chance at breaking up the no-hitter, unless the Royals were still gunning for the win and obviously needed baserunners

I wondered the same thing. I mean, really, you're not going to magically make up seven runs against a guy who hasn't allowed a hit all night and a (presumably) pumped-up bullpen. So why the heck not try to put some wood on the ball? Unless you just want to be a part of history...?
