"He read all the criticism online from home," one person who spoke to Rodriguez said. "And when he was out of the country, he was calling people every day to find out what was being said about him. I think it got to the point where he truly was in a state of depression."

The Spin from the Steinbrenner camp is going to be ridiculous. EPIC, even.

The media spin is unbelievable. Keep in mind, there were 3 parties in this: the Yankees, ARod, and Boras.

ARod: never explicitly claimed he would not go back to the Yankees

Boras: said his goal was to get his client the richest deal in history

Yankees: said they wouldn't negotiate with ARod if he opted out

Which of the 3 caved again?

The spin is that somehow the Yankees got ARod to cave? When he basically turned an 8 year/$220 million deal (previous contract plus extension) into a 10 year/$290 million contract, with the potential for even more in incentives? And they lost the Texas subsidy? How did Boras and ARod cave in, exactly?

Let that f***ing cock sucks piece of s*** go. He's the biggest f***ing phony in the world. You just want to win a World Series? This is the reason you left Texas. Go f***ing leech of some other owner and never win a big game. f*** YOU.

It just bothers me so much because I've defended him a lot the last 2 years among Yankee fans, and he turns around and proves to be this piece of s*** again.

Even if he comes back, my opinion on him won't change after this.

Today:

Well that and the HOF third baseman the Yankees have again.

Say whatever you want about Rodriguez, the Yankees are a better team with him than without him at this point.

If the Yankees land Rodriguez, it'll be a huge turnaround for the franchise.

Just sayin' ;)

f*** him. I'm so pissed off it's ridiculous.

In Miguel Cabrera we trust.

Although I have to give Jacko props for this:

I would rather rebuild than have this jerk back on the team. f*** HIM!

Watch, he'll end up coming back and I will have to see his s*** eating grin back in pinstripes. He finally started winning us over, and NOW he has lost all of that and more.

I'll say this again. This was something the Yankees needed to do. He could not have been replaced. They barely made the playoffs, and take a look what they would have been offensively if you substitute an average offensive third basemen in for A-Rod.

Yes, they're paying him too much. Yes, they've given him too many years. But guys (Yankee fans), this is not coming out of our pockets. I agree, the front office doesn't look great, but in the end the team is better off.

For the people who cursed A-Rod off, and now love him again, that's hypocrisy at it's worse. But I, for one, am enjoying the fact that they are bringing him back.

This made the front office and Streinbrenners look foolish? Bringing him back is going to cost alot of money?

Uhhh...don't care. Bring the prick back. I'll (somehow) manage to get over all the other BS when he continues to put up historic numbers and breaks the HR record in pinstripes...and I think the same goes for Cashman and the Steinbrenners.

What ********...this guy' date=' and his agent, are two fake, wastes of oxygen. Opting out because you're concerned about the future in NY? ********. A-Rod, please stay in the AL. You need to come back to Yankee Stadium next season and get what you deserve. [/quote']

Sure he could have. It's called restructuring. They had a chance to clean house and bring in a bunch of younger guys to compliment their new young guns and begin building a team for the future.

Instead, they resigned all their old men and next year's team will resemble a retread of this year's. Obviously if they haven't been a WS team the last few years, they won't be next year now that their core players are yet another year older and even more overpaid than they were.

Your point? His reasons for opting out were ******** and I hope he does get booed viciously next year at Yankee Stadium for what he did. Wow, what a waste of time.

So you admit you're fine cheering for this guy even though you called him a fake and "full of ********", as long as he keeps producing.

Fair 'nuff.

If he hits 40-50 HR and drives in 100+ RBI annually, he could kick puppies on his way into the Stadium for all I care.

When I look at this, it makes sense. The Yankees weren't going to get anywhere close to his production this offseason. To get Cabrera would have cost more than a few good prospects, something we can't really spare. Money, however, isn't an issue.

Common, lets be honest, the playoffs are more or less a crapshoot. Yes, the Red Sox were the best team, but some the other teams could have won also. If the Yankees add someone like Santana to what they had from last year, I think they would be legitimate championship contenders.

But let me say this again, the playoffs are a crapshoot, and the Yankees can easily win the World Series next year with a similar team.

Agreed. The Cardinals in 2006 are a prime example of this. Once you get in to the playoffs, you have as good a chance as anyone IMO.

Exactly, so for YAZMAN to say that they won't win next year with a similar roster is pretty ridiculous in my opinion.

Apples to Oranges comparison. St. Louis had 4 different starters as position players in '06 compared to '05, and both were younger teams than NY was last year.

But their team ERA was over a full point higher in '06 from '05 and they won the WS. So there's your formula for success right there - bring back Mussina, Clemens, Rivera, and Pettitte, sign a few more aged arms and you'll be all set. The clubhouse will look like a bingo parlor next year.

Yep, done deal. Who cares?

The Yankees didn't stay true to their "we're not negotiating if he goes to FA", A-Rod ditched his agent, and ended up crawling back on his hands and knees.

Losers deserve each other I suppose.

Now the questoin is Lowell or Cabrera?

Again, youth is not something you need to win a world championship if you're talking about one season. Take a look at the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks.

Uh oh, better not bring up the idea that A-Rod was the one that came back to the Yankees. People here aren't taking kindly to that.

My point was that even when you win 83 games in the regular season (just 4 over .500), you still have a good a shot as anyone to win the WS once you make the playoffs.

I love that he signed with the Yankees. It is so funny to see "fans" change their tune so quickly.

I think it was pretty freaking smart of him to turn them down so they would have to offer him obscene amounts of money to stay.

Look you can have him....I don't care if he blew Hank or it was the other way around. I don't care about him at all. That's simple N.Y. arrogance which is interesting in a town that has the Jets and a baseball team that hasn't won jack s*** this century and w/ unlimited pockets. Not a very good business model, but they keep duping the duped.

My vitriol was reserved for the rank and file amongst my own kind who were willing to sell their soul for a soulless individual blessed w/ great physical gifts for this game. Also, the hypocrites of your kind who skulk around like Morlocks until they find their way up from the sewer on occasion when the lights shine brightly on their hovel, however briefly.

The law of averages assumes he will eventually have a meaningful game when it actually matters in the next 10 years and it will hurt us at some point. I mean Bellhorn did...Why Not Him?

I'd be more concerned if you actually had pitching....if you finagle Santana somehow, then there will be some competition. As it stands now...and the point Yaz was trying to make...you have the EXACT same team as last year w/ some good pitching "potentials" and a core group who is aging in exponential fashion (see the Malthusian growth model, and a shout out to the stat fiends) and they will never be the 96ers again. You also have zero...nada...no one as a positional player in the minors who projects to be anything but marginal in the bigs. And you just paid 1/2 billion dollars for ...what again? Yep..you didn't rape the farm system because you don't have one outside of Hughes, Joba and Kennedy. The spinners can spin all they want.

No doubt this was a desperation move on all sides. We need someone to play 3B and/or 1B next year and I'd like to see a few more reliable guys in the pen. Ho hum. How bout you?

Waiting to "win another ring" w/ this core group. Ha.

The attitude that the Yankees gave in is ridiculous to me. The only reason the Yankees weren't going after Rodriguez was the money they lost from Texas. The parameters of the deal are the same they were going to offer before he opted out. A-Rod just lost $20 million that Texas was going to pay. His mistake, and Yankees pay what they wanted from the start.

The reason I was so pissed off was Rodriguez opting out after saying he wanted to stay, before he even got an offer. My anger was based on his disingenuous attitude more than anything else. He said he wanted to stay, and then took off presumably knowing the Yankees stance. The fact that he reached out to mend fences makes the difference for me. He went back to the Yankees and took less money than he would have had he not opted out.

"My opinion won't change" was based on my expectation of the Steinbrenners caving, and paying $350 million. The way it worked out, I'm ok with it. The opting out really seems to be more Boras wanting to get the contract than Rodriguez wanting to leave, since he's here still.

How do you figure? With incentives, this contract could go over $300 million!

You're telling me the Yankees wanted to offer him this much in the first place? lol.

Yes, actually. These were the parameters they were expecting to pay.

At least I'm not getting any of my comments from a month ago posted. This is a business, and A-Rod made a business decision when he opt'd out. It should be left at that.

Reached out to mend fences. How old are you? I know this place is schizophrenic and I'm alternately having logical conversations w/ 11 year olds and arguing vehemently w/ shut ins and the reasonable, and I suppose that is my choice, but I'm bored and it's winter. Regardless...you're buying the spin that the media is throwing up to you, you've proven yourself a hypocrite, you're backtracking, dancing, doing the jig. Regurgitating absurd arguments, jacking off to your AROD poster...did I mention hypocrisy. Look...I respect you people when you are consistent. You sir...are not. Parameters...right. mwid.
