Just when we had the dagger unsheathed, Choka-Jima and Papel-Blow lay a mammoth turd on Red Sox Nation. Just when Dice-K had pitched a very good game against NY, after a few dodgy outings, and now this. f***ing pathetic. I have heartburn right now, and it's not from my dinner. I am so f***ing pissed off right now. A 5 run lead in the 8th at home in the series opener, and we cough it up. Do we want to win the f***ing division or not? What the f***!!!! After a week of stupid Patriots ******** at the hands of a New York s*** franchise, I have to sleep with this f***ing loss ringing in my head.

We deserve to lose this division. I hope we win it, but I think at this point, the yankees are smelling the finish line a little more strongly than we are.

agreed. Tito had a strong sense of urgency last night. He knew that he only needed one game in this series and with a 5 run lead in the 8th, it was time to finish the job. Okajima and Papelbon, a W, momentum and an easy cruise down the Champs D'Ellyses to the finish line. We beat your two best pitchers after they were spotted a 5 run lead. Sometimes you have to tip your cap. Francona did nothing wrong.

That's the key, in my opinion. I know Gagne has been less than stellar, but Francona is pulling a "Joe Torre" where Okajima is concerned. He's over used him, pure and simple. There is no excuse for Papalbon tanking, other than its a different situation than he's come to thrive in (but that shouldn't matter.) Someone should have been warming up besides Papelbon. Delcarmen, Gagne (once Okajima went in instead of Gagne). That was the wrong situation to put Papalbon in.

 

I don't want to be negative. Having a 4 1/2 game edge with Beckett on the mound should be considered a luxury situation. But my confidence is shaken by this teams inconsistencies. It's almost like they have three magic beans. Last night, the offense (including Drew, for a change), Dice-K, and the defense got them and left the bull pen without. In other games (like Schilling's last) the starter, the pen, and the defense got the beans - none for the batters. The night we beat the Rays 16-10, it was Wake who got no bean. I know this is kind of moronic sounding, but you get the idea, right? (I've only been out of bed a little while and I'm still waking up!) We need to be firing on all cylinders if we want to beat the Yankers, let alone put up a showing in October.

 

Keeping my faith is a given. Holding out hope is tougher. But I'll be in front of the TV at 4PM (unless the FOX broadcast is blacked out because of George's dumb-ass YES network, in which case I'll have to listen on Game Day Audio.) I'll have my cap on my head, a prayer in my heart, and GO SOX!!! on my lips!

I'm watching the post game interview with Tek on Boston.com. If you watch it, at about 1:20, somebody asks Tek one of those ass-head questions that are only really asked to try and solicit emotion from the player: "Seven to two lead; how crushing is this loss?"

 

You can watch the video to see Tek's specific answer, but I'll tell you this much: He didn't take the bait. More evidence as to why he's a great team captain. If that were me, I'd have been pissed off long before that idiotic question. After it? Whew!

Okajima is hitting the wall after being overworked most of the year, a la Tom Gordon. Blind if you dont see that. To start the 8th inning with a 5 run lead its not bad management if he were to have an Eric Gagne or Manny Delcarmen start the game with Okajima warming up in case

 

1st half, 39 games (2-0, 4 saves, 0.83 ERA)

43.1 innings, 24 Hits, 4 Runs, HR, 12 Walks, 37 Ks

 

2nd half, 25 games (1-2, 4.94 ERA)

23.2 innings, 23 Hits, 13 Runs, 5 HRs, 5 Walks, 23 Ks

He was fine up until August 30th vs. the yankees, he didnt allow more than 1 ER in any outing up until that point. But 3 specific outings in the past 2 weeks (8/30 vs. NY, 9/5 vs. TOR and 9/14 vs. NY) account for more than 50% of the runs he has given up all season

Even so he is being overworked. Even his scoreless efforts as of late show him looking plain worn out. Its no help that Gagne has been a bust and hurt in his short stay with Boston. Will Tito give Gagne more chances or will he run Okajima out for more than half of the next 14 games?
