I dunno, I agree we should put a stop to this revolving door, but I don't agree that we should stick with a guy that absolutely sucks. Just because we gave up on some guys who maybe deserved to stay (o-cab, agon especially) doesn't mean that we have to eat it and live with a real mistake now. Bench the guy, play cora, use Lugo as utility and if he gets is swagger back, play him more, if not maybe dump him in the offseason.

I say we have to stick with him. Hes absolutely awful......but we seriously need some stability at the SS position. I dont want to get rid of another, then the following year say once again..."man we shoulda just kept lugo" just like i did with ocab, renteria, and now agon. His track record shows he will come out of it.....and we are the best team in baseball.....lets just stick with him a little longer and hopefully we are rewarded like the way we have been with Drew and Pedroia and Crisp lately. All 3 were pretty terrible at some point, and have all turned it around.

Lets just wait it out.

Agreed. I think he will turn it around.

Julio Lugo's performance this season has been one of the most pathetic offensive efforts I've seen since I've been watching Red Sox baseball. Granted, I'm only 16 years old but that's still saying something. His average has dipped below .200 and he hasn't gotten a hit since June 15. After seeing these terrible stastics, one would assume that he's at least getting the job done in the field, however that is far from the case as he can be viewed as a liability at shortstop during points in games.

So..the question is, how do you fix this problem. You have a solid middle infielder in Alex Cora sitting on the bench, but you're paying Lugo the big bucks to get the job done AND it's only June. This puts Francona in somewhat of a tight spot as to dealing with Lugo and Cora. I would say give Lugo an 8 game platform. If he can show signs of life on either side of the ball and maybe a hope of turning it around, give him some more time but if he continues to remain hitless and to be a liability in the field, give the job to Cora for the time being.

In other news, why the hell have I not gone to bed yet...?

come next year we will be paying 10M for shortstops who dont play here

a slump is one thing

this guy has sucked since tampa traded him last summer

nobody had a worse 2nd half than julio lugo did last year

epsteins failure here, center and right have been disguised by an outstanding pitching staff and some tremendous production from our corners and the 3/4 hitters

crisp appears to be coming on a bit,i think hes found a bit of confidence and hes starting to drive the ball again

drews obp is .350 and hitting 247 and slugging 387

the obp i can live with, the other 2 #s are simply atrocious for the guy who was to protect manny, that said i think if he can keep his head in the game and his ass on the field he will be more respectable in the 2nd half

lugo??

hitless since 6/15,outperformed at every level by each of the 1/2 dozen shortstops that theo let walk or dealt and all are making less than lugo..

again

this hideous move is masked behind a tremendous staff and some other guys really stepping up

of the 3

this guy is the least likely to get it together and his slump is now pushing a year

his batting avg is like less then.200, but his avg with runners in scoring position is like .340 something. I don't get it really. Can he only hit with runners on? We haveto stick with him. there won't be any better solutions next off season, besides maybe Arod... I saty with stick with him, bat him 9th and forget about him for now. The team is playing well enough at this point that we can hide him there and not be to effected by it.

This is a good point. The team is doing very well, despite Lugo's struggles, and it may be best to let him ride along until (hopefully) he begins to be a contributor. If he sucks the remainder of the year and again next year, then perhaps they should look at other optons, but not just yet.

Look up Tony Penas 1993 Season.

...OK. I looked it up and I see he batted .191 but I'm not sure what you're trying to prove. If you're saying that Lugo is having an off year and that we should stick around with him, I disagree. If you're trying to say that it's not the worst offensive performances...I said Lugo's performance thusfar is one of the worst I've seen since I've been watching baseball and I wasn't really fully aware of Pena's 1993 season when I was 2 years old. I'm just not sure what you're trying to imply with that random year from Tony Pena's career.

Easy internet muscles.

Penas was the worst offensive season Ive seen. Thats all...

EDIT: I believe it was like .181 also. With a stunning .246 OBP. As bad as that was, the 97 RedSox team was prob one of the worst Ive seen. After a couple of solid seasons following the Butch Hobson disaster....that 97 team really sucked. Steve Avery....christ.

Dude, I wasn't even dissing you or anything. I was just asking you to clear up why you wanted me to look up Pena's season. Like I said, I wasn't following baseball when I was two years old so my statement remains true that this is one of the more pathetic showings I've seen a player have in a red sox uniform.

We have had the opportunity to have Hanley Ramirez, Orlando Cabrera, Edgar Rentaria, and Alex Gonzalez playing SS this season, instead we have to deal with the WORST SS, if not player, in all of baseball. I hate Theo. I don't want to see Lugo start another game this season. It's time for Cora to get the nod. The FO should make Theo eat Lugo's contract and cut him. Find a real SS damnit.

Whatever. Linda said it here on the day Lugo was acquired by the Red Sox. It's been well documented.

Then the entire site called him out for not having any baseball knowledge. After all, Lugo was going to be better then Nomar before he met Mia.
