Ok contribute time. Lugo is the worst starting SS in the game. Theo totally made a blunder in this move. At this time I would really like to have Alex Gonzales back. So now the real Question are we gonna have another new shortstop in near future will Theo blow us away with a blockbuster trade ? I hope so.

Adam, you were given a last chance. I'll be surprised if you last past this one. You certainly didn't help yourself by cluttering the board with your useless dribble again. ksushi JUST WARNED YOU. And you did it again.

I think we should just stay with him through the year i mean hes got to do better the second half cause you cant do much worse than what hes doing now

Update: Julio Lugo is 0-29 in his past 29 at bats.

Just a friendly reminder from the folks here at Start Cora Inc...

I'don't know what too say. Maybe he needs his eyes checked or something. Seriously, there has to be something causing the just total in ability to hit. Crisp was exactly like this until recently. I mean right now I think he will turn it around and do better, only because I doubt he could be any worse. Maybe the AS break will be good for him, help him clear his head and get lassics( no idea how to spell it) laser eye surgery.

Actually Coco's lowest average of the season I believe was something like .220. Coco also at least didnt make every out a groundout, more fly ball outs than Lugo has ever had this year. Maybe he's playing hurt, i dont know he just hasnt been the same since he was traded to the Dodgers

I think Lugo will have a solid second half and a large number of Red Sox fans will look over reactionary and impatient with his struggles over the past year. For some reason nobody expects him to come back anywhere close to his mean, which is a bad assumption to make about any player. Notice the complaints about Crisp have died down after a few RBI, a few stolen bases, a few nice at bats, some nice base running. He's nowhere NEAR his mean, but people are okay with it because he's hitting more like he should relative to his mean. Notice the complaints about Pedroia have disappeared now that he's one of the top AVG guys in baseball and appears to put up a good at bat every time--just like his numbers said they would.

I understand getting frustrated with his lack of RBIs and hits recently. It is frustrating. There are a few frustrating things about this team right now. But without any obvious other options and with this guy signed long term the complaints just end up looking overblown. Especially with a 10 game lead.

I'm not saying this team can't be improved, but until there is reason to think they have another option it isn't going to do much good to complain.

Ksushi, I agree that Cora should start. I think Lugo should return to SS when he's ready to play like a big boy. I'm not ready to give up on him at all. When you see numbers like this you are invariably loking at a guy who isn't swinging the bat well right now, and who isn't getting any luck. NOBODY with Lugo's skills could hit this poorly without bad luck.

O wel, were in 1st place, let him figure it out, then anything he contributes will looked upon as a bonus, and help us pad our AL East lead.

This is the reason getting off to such a great start is important. To all of the people who think Lugo is going somewhere: he isn't. Hasn't anything been learned from rash decisions made in the past regarding SS? I'll never understand what A-Gon did to not bring his defense back for this year.

He's been showing signs of life the past couple games...

July 2: More patience at the plate, huge sac bunt that resulted in eventual runs being driven in, some underrated plays in the field.

July 3: 2-3, 2 RBI

Clutch Hitting

It's starting to look like he's taking steps towards being a legitimate major league shortstop...

the journey of 1000 miles begins with the 1st step

unless youre in pro sports

then you gotta perform within a schedule that dont break for adjustment or fatigue

lugo is a catylist when hes on and would be huge down the stretch

He had no offense.

Before you jump on me about Lugo...I understand that right now it looks like a terrible decision. But Lugo's track record showed that he was a GREAT hitter at Fenway and overall, he would give his team offense while doing a good-enough job at SS. Obviously, the Sox couldn't have foreseen what was going to happen, but I understood their decision to go after Lugo (personally I didn't want him but I understood why they did).

It never should have gotten to the point of signing A-Gon or Lugo though. They should have

1) Re-signed Cabrera...this would have been my first choice

2) Stuck with Renteria...sure he had a pretty terrible year with the glove but his offense wasn't terrible. I still believe that given another year he would have been a great piece to our team.

And BoSox, I'm just as excited as you are about Lugo coming around these last two games, but he's been in a year-long slump. It's going to take four or five games of consistent baseball for it to be considered a first step. And only that....a first step. After that we have to pray he doesn't fizzle out again.

Plus, he was a Yankee-killer.

3 yrs 15M for a completely D minded SS was too much.

Yes the gave Lugo alot more but they thought they where getting a leadoff hitter, hes struggled but he will come around. For now its not hurting us too bad.

They should have signed Gonzo for two years for $5 million from the beginning. Instead they opted to sign him for 1 year, and he built up his market value. Two years for $5 million is chump chang and even if Gonzo bombed out in 2006, it would not have broken the 2007 bank.
