To tell you the truth' date=' with the Yankees sucking as much as they had been, it made the decision even that much more of a no-brainer. Work in the mortgage business has been slow this summer for purchases [although I've kept afloat with refi's'] so I figured with work slow, the yankees sucking, and my father alone, I'd be an idiot not to go.

Now watch, I come back, and they go on a 6 game losing streak.

If they do, I am shipping your ass to Siberia.

If the yankees land Texiera and Milwood at the deadline for some s*** prospects and we reacquire Chad Bradford and Reggie Sanders' date=' I will throw out all of my electronic equipment and not subject myself to another season like last season. It's time for Theo and Co. to step up. After spending all this money two years in a row, not making the playoffs this year should cost him his job.[/quote']

I doubt it will cost him his job, he knew full well that last year was going to be an 80 win team because of the prospect players we had learning on the job. They went out, added some big pieces, and I fully expect them to add what we need at the deadline. If not, I doubt it would cost him his job especially with how well he has turned around our farm system.

If you have a 15 game lead on your hated rival and they upgrade and overtake you while Theo stands pat, then I dont know how he can keep his job. It would be ludicrous. If you lose the east this yr, it will be worse than '78.

If you lose the east this yr' date=' it will be worse than '78.[/quote']No it will not. The '78 team was stacked with stars around the diamond, plus they had a 20 game winner in Eck, Luis Tiant, a big FA acquisition in Mike Torrez. The '75 team was at full maturity in '78. The Red Sox lineup in '78 was a juggernaut that was every bit as good as the Yankees lineup, maybe better. They had the best hitter in baseball in Rice. This year the Yankees lineup has been acknowledged since the beginning of the year as far superior to the Red Sox lineup. Plus, in '78 the team hadn't won a Championship in 70 years making it even more disappointing.

The Red Sox lineup was WAY better than the Yankees lineup. The Yankee pitching was far superior. Would it be worse? I don't think so. I think 78 would be worse.

I lived it. I'll let you know.

Well, the Yankees have exploded for 38 runs in their last two games, and have finally jumped over the Twins. Next on the list. Those pesky Mariners.

Good day for the Yankees. While beating up the Royals, the Yankees gained a game on the Guardians, Twins and Mariners. Five games back of the Guardians in the loss column. Slowly, but surely, we are creeping back into the race.

A great day for the Evil Empire. With the Guardians losing to the Red Sox, and Mariners getting swept in a doubleheader in Texas, the Yankees made up ground by shellacking the Royals. Also, the Twins losing put some distance between them and the Yankees, and the Tigers getting swept in a double header, the Angels losing to the A's tightens everything up and can only help.

With Mussina and Igawa going today and tomorrow, the Yankees will be hard-pressed to win one of the next two games. Here is how the wild card standings look at this point.

Either way, we gain a game...so no "loss" either way. As long as we keep winning, the standings will take care of themselves.

With the Red Sox losing to the Guardians, we inch closer the AL East crown. As hot as the Yankees have been, the Mariners are that cold, matching the Yankees six game winning streak with a six game losing streak of their own. The Yankees can jump over the Mariners with a Seattle loss coupled with a Yankees win.

Today, the chase begins anew. With Mussina against Contreras, expect a football score on this one. With Carmona going for the Guardians at home versus McCarthy and Texas, it may be tough for the Yankees to gain ground. However, a decent chance on gaining ground on Seattle, as they throw Weaver against Lackey in LA.

The Tigers are falling back to the pack as well. They are only one game in front of the Guardians, and are losing 3-2 in the eighth as I write this. If they lose, and the Yankees win, the Yankees are only three back of the Tigers, and we only have to beat one of those two teams. I think Seattle is all smoke and mirrors, and is bound to fall off.

Are you sure you are talking about the right person here?

Well, those pesky Mariners won't lose, but with the Tigers dropping their game, as well as the Guardians, the Yankees can almost taste the wildcard, only two games out at the end of play today.

A bad day for the boys from the Bronx. However, with the goal being to win every series, that has been accomplished. With the White Sox and Buerhle in Detroit, the Twins throwing Santana at the Tribe, and Seattle squaring off against the Boston, it may be a good day for us with Wang starting the series off against the Royals at home.

Nice to see those standings when I return from my vacation. It's been killer trying to get updates over in Ireland. My grandparents house is in the middle of a bog, and has a total of 8 TV channels. I had to rely on spotty teletext updates and infrequent phone calls to my girlfriend. Getting the word that we're a half game out is damn good news.
