Hughes is throwing 93-94 on the toronto gun and 95-96 on the gamecast gun. His curve looks pretty good too. I just wish this kid wasnt gunshy. Walking Adams was just plain dumb and leaving a cockshot to Rios on 0-2 was also stupid. 30 pitches after 1' date=' the kid better get through next inning unscathed.[/quote']

There has to be some discrepency here. On the YES broadcast, he hasn't broken 91 yet. To my eye, and to the way the batters are getting around on it, NO WAY that fastball is 94.

That is all Hughes needs to do. He has good enough stuff to come right after the hitters and not get hurt. Instead, he digs himself in a hole by nibbling, then inexplicably goes to his third pitch when he doesnt need to. He has the stuff and the control when he wants to, he just needs to pitch to contact a little more.

Lets see how this kid does. He's been staked a big lead, and with the offense behind him, he should not worry. If he starts nibbling instead of going after hitters, he's an idiot.

Sorry....interns and residents historically work less than med students in America. The old time off plan. I'm mistaken. What was that again...the ICU was doing you in? Ha. You can fool these little boys. I spent 15 years in there my friend. In the trenches in Boston. We get annoyed by the posers. No one has that much time to spend dissecting minor league rosters. Even us government workers. But, you're persistent and you should some day pursue something like that. Tenacity you have.

how in the world does toronto does not have a run scored allready in this game?

I guess all the rest that the Yankees gave Mussina really helped him tonight. His velocity was consistently 90-92, which is a big upgrade over what he had been doing. However, the thing that really helped him tonight was that he was much more aggressive, and he wasn't falling in love with his offspeed stuff.

Now it's 4-1 going into the bottom of the ninth. It should be 5-1, but the second base umpire just made a terrible call on a ball that Vernon Wells clearly trapped.

Mussina pitched well. We shall see who leaves the rotation now.

I was thinking about the Yankees maybe going to a six man rotation. It would probably help Mussina and Clemens, however it will hurt Wang. However, you obviously still can't count on Mussina and Clemens on a start to start basis at this point.

No' date=' 6 man rotation is a very poor option for a team trailing in a race. Wang and Pettitte need to pitch every 5th day.[/quote']

Not that I'm calling the wild card race over, but I would rather have a team in good shape once they get to the playoffs then a team that really goes all out in the last couple weeks and is exhausted once they get to the playoffs. See 2005 New York Yankees.

the problem is what happens if the Sox take 2 out of 3 or sweep us and the Tigers go on a winning streak?

I agree with Jacko, you gotta get there first before starting to prep for the playoffs.

No matter what you do this weekend you still have Pettitte, Wang, and Clemens pitching. After this weekend you can see where you are and then decide whether you want to go with a five or six man rotation. Obviously if the race tightens, you want Pettitte and Wang going every five days.

By the way, I think you are misunderstanding what Jacko is saying. He's saying, in my opinion, that the Yanks should do everything they can to win the division. He's not saying anything about simply getting there.

In my opinion, preparing yourself for the playoffs is much more important than busting your ass for seeding. I'm not saying the wild card race is over by any means, but if it begins to look more comfortable, I think a six man rotation would better prepare the Yanks for the playoffs, no matter how close you are to the Red Sox.

If your concern is about getting there at all, then you are not in agreement with Jacko. He's eyeing the division, hence the comment about "trailing" in a race.

Personally, I hope they do everything they can to try and win the division. Extend starters, work the key relievers, limit off days. I, like Jacko, think they are getting in without question at this point. Them emptying the tank for the little glam that is the division crown would make me happy.

The last sentence is exactly what I do not want to happen.

wild card teams make the big show every year it seems

st louis won 83 games last year and are champs

the yanks maybe f***ed tonite

i layed money on them as theyre a small underdog

i am of the mindset toronto packed it in and its a scenario that says its not who you play as much as it is when you play them

see the mariners for an example

the benefit of betting ny is if they lose i enjoy it and if they win at least i get a couple bucks

the yanks are on fire and are a dog very rarely

this weekend the sox will be favored in the 3 game but they wont be big

Does this Yankee pitcher look like the next Cy Young to anyone? I am still trying to figure out how come Jay's are going down looking.
