No one answered my question the other day about Ellsbury playing against the Dodgers even though he had been sent down. Does anyone know why?

700, what ORS said has to probably be the right answer; the announcer screwed up. Remember last week when Hansen was supposed to have pitched and gave up three runs and some of us were rolling our eyes? Well it wasn't him but a guy named Burns, but I got VA Sox pissed off at me because I kept insisting it was Hansen because the announcer said it was. If you want real confirmation look at the box score of that game if you can get it and if there even is one considering it ended in the top of the third.

He said he saw him in the paper. Number and all.

Mike Burns for closer! Did anyone happen to see his 9th against the O's. Even Tito seemed to have a laugh on his face after Burns closed out the game 1-2-3 with a K.

I didn't even know Burns was on the team until today. His career stats suck though. He can't be any worse a closer prospect than Pineiro is..

Snyder actually looked really good today. His pitches were moving all over the place. Some even wound up in the strike zone.

Mosox, what was great about today's game is that the Orioles had their big guns in the lineup and our pitchers handled them all day. Nothing to complain about at all, but I just wonder with a one run lead going into the bottom of the ninth, it seemed like a perfect place to insert one of the guys who is vieing for closer on our team. Instead we get Burns who won't even be on the team getting the chance. He did great, one, two, three, but does this guy even now rate a chance to change some minds. Frankly, it would have been nice to see Pineiro or Hansen or someone who we think might close for us in that situation.

Is this just a mirage or is our bullpen finally coming around? They sure looked great today.

Also curious about the # of HRs hit by Wily Mo after his return from surgery last year. He has n't hit any this Spring. Ortiz had the same surgery years ago' date=' and he said that it took a full year to get his power back.[/quote']

Actually 700, Wily Mo has hit a HR this spring training. Its just that its not counted in the spring training stats. That being because it was during Matsuzaka's rain shortened outing

I could have sworn I read that Pena hit a bomb in the last few days, but couldn't find it when I went looking. You're right RS.

Here's the picture from Matsuzala's game. The caption indicates that Ellsbury scored on Hinske's HR.

Here's another link indicating that Ellsbury played on Friday.

Either he played in the game or someone else was wearing #82 during that game.

Great job Riverside; we sure can get a quick glimpse of how the pitchers are faring so far, but I kind of noticed that some of the guys we're depending on seem to be on the south end of the leader board. Well I will be down there next week to see for myself and maybe some of those ERA's will improve, but it does look like some of our pitchers are doing a good job in the Flodida sun. Thanks for the info.

I was thinking about the same thing. I really would have liked to see Pineiro in there just to simulate a closing situation. Overall good grades for the arms. I'm most interested in reading about Lester's progress.

Mo, I haven't heard much about Lester the last ten days or so and I also wonder how he is coming along. I have some deep misgivings about how much he is going to help us in the rotation because he hasn't looked all the sharp so far. Besides, when Lester is ready and fully healthy I believe he must be put on the starting staff. Maybe today if we get a lead into the ninth inning Francona will use one of our closer prospects (suspects) and we can see if that particular candidate has the stuff to do the job.

Fred' date=' where have you heard that Lester hasnt been sharp in ST? Ive heard jus glowing reviews from the games they have had him pitch in. My money is on him taking Wake's spot mid season[/quote']

Oh s*** Riverside, I meant Wakefield and forget to put his damn name in. Sorry about that. Another senior moment for me. No, I meant Tim. I did hear Lester has been looking very good. It is just that I haven't heard much about him for over a week. If you have any info let me know. Boy, I screwed up on that one. Proofread Fred, proofread.

The guy had some serious treatments in the offseason.

700' date=' what do you think of Beckett's hook tonight?[/quote']It's looking very good--nice tight spin. What pitch is he throwing that is diving out of the zone. I don't remember him having a splitter.

I would guess a hard change. He's said he wants to use it more, and with his velocity it's probably going to look like a split.
