He was far from a steady starter last year' date=' and all I heard about this Spring was 20 pitches in a minor league game. He has a long road back. The guy had some serious treatments in the offseason.[/quote']

Im not emploring for him to be on the opening day staff, but his his agressive pace and good work ethic should set him inline to be called up mid-season. And he's worked more than 20 pitches in ST

Let's not forget that he wasn't very polished with his command last year. We don't need him in the rotation if we have to go to the bullpen after 4 or 5 innings. I know that you are all charged up about the kid, but he hit the rotation last season because we had Huey, Dewie, and Louie in the rotation.

I really dont see it as table setter that Lester will be a 4 or 5 inning pitcher for his major league career

Is Gameday right? 23 strikes, no balls for Beckett?

:wtf:

They don't count pitches during ST. 3 strikes for a K, 4 balls for a walk, balls in play show up as the first pitch.

He'll have to get better coomand of his stuff if he wants to be more than that.

OK...I thought that number was weird.

He's in his early 20's. There's plenty of time. Hell he's got to age 10 years before he hits your radar 700. That said, I think he needs to spend the whole year in AAA unless he shows dramatic improvement in command and someone gets hurt.

Wow, where did this come from. He was on cruise control with 7 K's and 1 H through 4 2/3. A couple of dinks, a hopper over the bag, and he's laboring. That last curve looked really flat.

Why? I like young pitchers. Other than Papelbon and Beckett, we don't have any that have established themselves in the majors. I expect Dice K will soon prove himself. I think Lester has quite a ways to go.

Not heads up ball by Pedroia there. He should have made sure the runner didn't score, and if he hadn't hestitated toward first, he probably would have had him. However, he can learn. Loretta doesn't get in the same zip code as that ball.

I know, 700. It was a joke.

EDIT: I'm not much for smilies.

He just gave us a look at his very average arm.

I know you were joking, but I was just clarifying for other readers that I too like young players who perform well. I like to sign them long term too.

Ah the "Beckett Meltdown" inning, huh?

What 2B has a strong arm? A 2B is a middle infielder that doesn't have enough arm to play SS. That play was between the ears.

It's average by second base standards.

Not really. He missed a couple of spots, but a couple of the balls had eyes. Just unfortunate. I think he gets out of the inning with 1 run scored if Crisp was in CF. WMP didn't get to a ball that Crisp, or Ellsbury, would have.

I hope this guy Drew stays healthy. He is a very smooth player. He's not flashy' date=' but he does everything very well.[/quote']

As long as he doesn't get HBP, he'll be fine. From what I understand, that's what has kept him on the DL in the past.

He was a little flat that last inning, but he was also the victim of some bad luck.

Anyone think the Sox should work with WMP to shorten his swing? The guy is freakishly big, so he doesn't need a real long swing to generate power.
