too bad

i was never a nixon guy but after 13 years you get used to seeing them around

i hope he resurrects his career and makes the most of this chance

Ya but not being the everyday guy will give his body a chance to get nice and healthy. I would expect to see him have an impact on whatever team he signs with next year. But he was a good guy and I wish him the best of luck!

i know a guy who played aa ball with him

he was known as the tuffest player in the system back then

anyone remember him ""losing"" control of the bat and nearly decapitating the drays pitcher who threw at daubach?? i think??

Trot was an awesome dirt-nosed ballplayer...in an era where so many guys don't seem to give a s***, you just know he was giving everything that he had on an everyday basis.

Best of luck to him...I'll cheer my ass off when he comes back to Fenway.

Trot Nixon was the ultimate class act in Boston and I wish him the best of luck in Cleveland whenever he isn't playing against the Red Sox.

The bottom line is that he never lived up to his potential (or what was his perceived potential) and he just plain lost his power last year. I'd take him as a leadoff hitter in a minute because he can get on base despite seemingly declining skills.

Nixon deserves an ovation upon his return that's on a completely different level from anyone who has returned to Fenway in recent years

I agree and would be surprised if he doesn't get a big standing O!

The first game will be May 29th.

Hugs and hand pounds to Trot. Thanks for giving your all as a member of the Sox, and you will always be one of the 25. The reception at Fenway should be impressive.

3 mill sounds like a fair price. It's a shame the injuries caught up with him the last two seasons, especially since he was starting to show signs of hitting lefthanded pitching. I still can't believe he missed a grand slam by a few feet in Game 4 in St. Louis. He deserves a big ovation at Fenway.

glad that guy is gone. WHEW. He OWNED Roger Clemens. He owned us. His OPS vs NYY the last 3 yrs was +.092 vs his average. He stepped up and LOVED the yankee short porch. That was one tough bastard, best of luck Trot.

Best Yankee fan post I've ever seen...

Nixon was a class act and if not for injuries, he would have been RSN's answer to Paul O'Neill. It was players like Nixon who donned the white and red that helped keep this rivalry red hot.

Good luck to Trot in his new home, and hope he hits as well against you as he did against us.

I meant it for sure. It was guys like Trot, Mueller, Millar (when he was good) etc who made the sox who they were. Guys who stepped up when it counted, got on base, went balls out on every play, and HATED the yankees. They fueled the rivalry. Too many mercs on both sides have made this a fans rivalry. But you knew Trot HATED the yankees, and he made it his mission to own them. He is a guy who made the rivalry rev. He will be missed, even if he was a bosox bastard who nearly clubbed the sox to the WS in 03.

Right on, jacksonian. One of my fondest memories of Trot is him chucking the Gatorade cooler across the dugout after game 7 that year. I was just in a state of catatonic shock - he wanted to break things. He hated to lose, but he REALLY hated to lose to the NYY. God bless the man, and best of luck to him (except against the Sox, of course).

Trot thanks for the memories :( Never forget your pinch-hit walkoff HR in the playoffs, other timely hitting, running into walls defense, devotion to the team, and love for Boston and all us fans

This guy was a fan favorite and one of my personal favs just because of his heart, what i have more pride in my team for than anything. Hopefully he retires soon and gets a job with NESN

I remember reading an article in our local newspaper when I was a kid, it was about Nixon and how he decided to play Baseball instead of Football. At this point in time he was thinking of playing both. I can't remember but where did he play football and what position? Just curious.

Freaky.

Trot will be wearing No. 33 because his 5 year old son picked it, reasoning because of his age

Man, that is freaky... I just can't believe hes going to play for someone other than Boston...

I was thinking, you know how Nixon always showed heart, hustle, and really acted how he felt... he expressed how the fans felt as well... he was real, he cared, he shows emotion... and that's the kind of players fans love... well I was thinking who else is like that on the Red Sox, who actually plays the game hard like Nixon did and gives everything they got into one play, like Nixon... well I came up with this list of players: Varitek, Youk, Schilling, Beckett, Lowell, Papi, Pap, Lester, Wake possibly and maybe Coco and Cora... and it looks like Pedroia will develop into that kind of player also.....
