I think there will be a big deal. I have that feeling that something is brewing right now. There are the kinds of tidbits of information floating around like there are before a big deal. Its like getting snippets of a Cell phone conversation drifting in to your own. You hear bits and pieces but you don't know exactly what they're talking about. We know Lugo is on the move, we know just about every position player besides Manny and Youkilis are available and we know the game plan is to get pitching.

Not quite in the league of “big deals” but I saw this from a couple of message boards posted by Projo beat writer Dan Hickling who covers the Sox minor leagues:

Sox get RHP Bryan Corey from Texas for Portland RHP Luis Mendoza.

Sorry no link yet to any independent news source.

I hate being removed from things during the trade deadline. I have no idea whats going on. I heard about the Nomar deal in 2004 2 days after it happened and it was completely out of the blue for me.

who f'in knows anymore? It could happen, but it might not.

I don't expect anything like the Nomah deal of a few years ago, nothing evel close to getting Abreu. if anything it will be a few role pitchers and perhaps a SP.

I hope I'm wrong and the sox have a good #2/#3 caliber SP in their sights, but I doubt it.

According to people on another board, WEEI has reported that Loretta is out of the lineup for tonight. Anyone know if this was planned?

We should move Loretta for pitching, not for another IFer. I want Pedroia to get his shot and we have cora behind him if need be.

Francona said that Loretta is out just to give him a rest and that Coco is not going to be moved either, but he kinda has to say that. Something may be up.

I think Cora would fit in fine as Loretta's replacement if he gets moved.

Maybe the big trade everyone senses will be the return of Roger?

It would have to be a bigger deal than with just the Astros. Biggio isn't going anywhere, and I don't think the Astros would want to move Biggio to the OF.

Something better get done tomorrow. For some reason I had a really irritated feeling while I watched the game tonight, and I kept thinking that something better be done to help us. What an ugly game.
Me too.

Why is it that everyone feels like we HAVE to make a move? Does being one of the best teams in the game for 102 games mean nothing? Clearly it doesn't because "COME ON THEO ITS THE DEADLINE LIKE MAKE A MOVE OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" If there isn't a quality move to be made then we wont make a move.

I read someone earlier who said we needed to "shake up" the team. You do not "shake up" a first place team. You may fill a hole, but you do not "shake it up". Making a move right now just because the Yankees did could end up costing us for years.

I think this team needs to be shaken, but in the sense that a drink is shaken: the ingredients remain essentially the same but you mix it up. Something about this offense isn't clicking. I don't know if its the loss of power in the middle or Coco over the past few weeks, but there seems to be some disconnect.

I heard the suggestion earlier of letting Coco hit 2nd, where he's performed well in the past. If Loretta moves (say, for Lugo) then the lineup gets added speed at the bottom.

Youkilis

Crisp

Ortiz

Ramirez

Nixon

Varitek

Lowell

Lugo

Gonzo

Doing that and adding a 3 or 4 pitcher and taking a crack at one or two more relievers would be the type of shake up this team needs. Not much more than that. Its just a chemistry thing; occasionally they are a very low-energy team that lacks a spark.

Do you think this team is playing like a first place ball club right now? I don't. Since the break they look like the 5th or 6th best team in the AL. Detroit, NYY, Minnesota, and Anaheim have all been playing better ball. And, don't look now, but the Chicago bats have woken up again. I don't see this team making the playoffs with the current roster.

Hows the rotation looking like with only 3 givens to actually rely on (Schil, Beckett, Lester)? So sure about Kyle Snyder holding the line with his platry stamina? So sure about Clement's mental issues wearing down and come back the way he should? So sure that Wake can come back from rib injury after a month off?

A move should be made for another starting pitcher, and in the relief section since MDC is looking like he could go to the DL

i think that this big 4 team deal that Theo is apparently working on is on the fence as to whom it wants to involve. Over the last couple of days we have seen both Lowell and Loretta get off days, and now Wily Mo is back. I think Loretta will go before Lowell, but who really knows.

I think we get Julio Lugo and either Jason Jennings or Jason Schmidt

Listening to WEEI and there's a lot of mention about Hansen now being involved and used as a trading chip. Any word on rumors that he's part of a deal?
