So Theo's plan so far is to ride it out with what they got and hoping that Wells is gonna come back and win all his starts... woohoo add the schedule of teams coming up, yeaa im not feeling all that great

Couldn't agree more....I think we are in trouble but ever since the All Star break I have been thinking that. We haven't played well since the series against ChiSox

big trades take a little while to trickle out of the MLB office. If it goes to MLB in one minute, it won't come out until at least 5:00, but it is still a trade

If nothing happened, I have a pretty sick feeling in my stomach. We desperately need a starter and we've known that for a long time now, and I'm not willing to waive the white flag every 5 days. I can't depend on Wells/Snyder/Wake/Gabbard to be the answers. Maybe we'll get someone off waivers, who knows. But it's been no secret for the past month or 2 that we desperately need another solid starter, and if Theo wasn't able to get ANYTHING done, what a disappointment.

On the other hand, there could have been such a massive trade that it's not being released yet because there are too many details. The lineup for tonight has the starters because they just needed to post something, who knows how much it will change.

I do. He has a first place team and believes in his internal options. There's no reason to have a feeling of anything right now, just anticipation

Your such a buzzkill

Posted
1) I've never heard of a buzzkill in my life.

2) I'm staying realistic. If you believe something happened, you'll be disappointed way too easily.

A buzzkill (popularized in grungy places like Seattle) is basically someone/something that sucks all the fun out of something. And the reason we're disappointed is because we're up 0.5 games on a team that added Bobby Abreu, Cory Lidle, and Craig Wilson with two months left and will be getting back Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui. I don't mean to sound harsh, but the future looks like, well, crap.

I understand. I was called a buzzkill because I stated that I would not be surprised if something didn't happen. I'm disappointed that nothing happened, but I'm not getting my hopes up by thinking that something did and we'll hear about it later.

I think our deadline deal was David Wells, and Tim Wakefield.

Hey a rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield, Wells, and Lester is good enough.

I'll give that rotation a 20% chance of staying healthy.....once they all become healthy that is

After conferring with GM Theo Epstein, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said "nothing has happened and he doesn’t foresee anything happening."

It looks like the deadline came and went without the Red Sox doing anything to match the Yankees.

I think you have a 23% chance of being right.

I can pull numbers out of my ass too.

I'd give a 80%.

Wakefield is the only real threat to go down. Wells' injury has more of a freak occurance.

According to the attrition numbers in Baseball Prospectus 2006, the chances a rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield, Wells, and Lester stay healthy is about 63%, if I did that right (probably not!)
