Haha, Ive had a similar injury to his as well. I fractured my left hand, yet I have yet to miss a practice or a match all year due to injury.

Coco seems to be milking it a bit/

EEI's Meterparel is saying that Coco has kidney stones and that is causing more of a delay

Meter is a joke and really should be relied on for info.

When Coco is healthy he'll be back. I've honestly forgotten about him again. We're .006 points out of first place and we haven't had our leadoff for almost the entire way. If we were struggling and under .500 at this point then I'd be concerned about Coco's return, but as long as we're winning I'm not worried about him. When he gets back it'll be a great addition.

We have much bigger concerns than Coco coming back. We need to find a 5th pitch, and maybe a 4th.

BTW I can't think of much in the world more painful than passing a kidney stone.

It will be interesting to see how he responds to the expectations when he returns...

What expectations are those? I expect him to provide speed on the bases and better range in CF. Speed doesn't take the day off. It's not like we'll be getting better (or worse) at the plate because while he gets added to the lineup, Pena gets taken out. He only improves the lineup if he can play SS.

i like youkilis in the leadoff spot, makes us look different. Of course coco will be a more typical leadoff hitter but I agree all is well right now, we need a 5 starter.

When Crisp comes back, Dustan Mohr is all but certain to be sent down to minors or even DFA'd. They wont stick with 6 outfielders. Wily Mo will go back to the platoon with Trot, and Harris will be back to what he can only do: late innings pinch runner.

The impact of the return of Coco wont be a minor one at all

Clement is really becoming the issue here... and Ill bow before the esteemed posters in the Clement thread, but if this doesnt get sorted out... Im not sure what happens... Lets face it kids, its not gonna rain 3 out of every 7 days all season so we can reset the rotation.. at some point Squiggy is gonna have to pitch and then what?

Im not gonna go all chicken little here... because we DO have the offense and the defense, unlike the squad from the toilet.

my guess is that Seanez and Holtz go, when Riske and Wells come back

I'd have to say Holtz and Dustan Mohr. With Will Mo Pena going back to platoon partner with Nixon we have no use for Dustan Mohr.

Maybe Willie Harris takes off when Crisp comes back or maybe DiNardo....the Sox are looking to keep Seanez because he has a chance to get hot from time to time.

Hammer, right on the money. We need a fifth starter in the worst way and let no one tell you anything to the contrary, but you might have hit upon something when you hinted at a fourth starter. I cannot fathom what it is with Clement that keeps him halfway in the toilet. Maybe that knock he took last year is still ringing in his mind. Others have had similar mishaps and have come back. Could it be that he lacks toughness? The guys has great stuff and is frustrating to see him noodling his way to another mediocre season.

Crisp's Recovery Slowed

Center fielder Coco Crisp, recovering from an undisclosed illness that interrupted his rehab from a broken left finger last week, will not make the trip to Baltimore.

His timetable to return remains unclear.

"He's going to stay back and try to get his legs back underneath him," Francona said. "He's up on his feet. It's going to take him a little while." ... Reserve outfielder Dustan Mohr also will not be with the team today. His wife, Denise, will have labor induced for the couple's first child. ... Pitching matchups for the Baltimore series: Beckett (4-1, 4.70 ERA) vs. Rodrigo Lopez (1-5, 7.03) tonight; Schilling (5-2, 3.76) vs. Bruce Chen (0-4, 8.42) Tuesday; Wakefield (3-4, 4.03) vs. Erik Bedard (4-3, 4.63) Wednesday.

You know Riverman, I think you are obsessed by the Red Sox---and I like that. It is high time you Yankee fans started worrying about us. For the longest time you snickered at Red Sox fans as rubes and the team as chronic underachievers and losers. No longer my friend. We know we can hold our own against your Yankees and I think you understand that very well, even though you wished it was like it was in the "old days". Screw the old days. However, I like conversing with you so keep in touch.

Crespo, Pena has been a most pleasant surprise. It is amazing how quickly he has learned to be more patient at the plate and how Papa Jack's tutoring has changed him almost overnight. I saw this guy last year. Man, the guy stunk to high heaven. He swing at everything and anything. The change has been amazing. One word of caution, though. He has a lot of trouble playing right field for some reason and that is going to take some time. I can see him moving to left when Manny leaves and Coco moving to right when Jacoby Ellsbury takes over in CF in two or three years.

Jsing, I've heard this song before when a player gets injured and his recovery is shoved back through some wierd occurrance. I knew when he got hurt that he wasn't going to be back by early or even late May. I think Crisp may be a very slow healer and one of those who we have to keep our fingers crossed does not get hurt very often because he just might be laid up a long time. Some players are quick healers and some are not. I wouldn't be surprised if Coco is not ready by the middle of June or early July at the earliest. This lingering stay on the DL has been a wakeup call for all of us.

I am not worried at all this is taking awhile. The Sox have not missed Crisp as of now since they put Pena in center. Crisp can come back fully healthy. What we know is the injury was likely worse than we thought but the fact the Sox have Pena in center has basically saved this team during that stretch.

Jsing, very true what you said. Pena has done a good job for us filling in, but with the dog days of summer only two months away wouldn't it be great to have four outfielders around to spell each other and keep all of them fresh? My worry is that Coco will come back and his timing will be all shot to hell and we'll spend a good month getting him untracked. The sooner we can get him back in the lineup the sooner his timing will return. It can't come sooner from where I'm sitting.

I hope that as a Red Sox fan, you really didn't mean that you want to get to him untracked.

The Sox could send him down to Pawtuckett for rehab.
