...and their fans are the most obnoxious in all of sports.

I believe the nail has been hit on the proverbial head. The Yankees as a team, from Georgie on down are easy enough to dislike. Winning a million championships, spending money like a drunken sailor with terminal cancer, the whole clean cut imag thing, those things are reasons enough to dislike the Yankees but it's not where the hate is drawn from.

The hate comes from the bandwagon, frontrunning, know nothing fans that we encounter on a daily basis. Not all Yankee fans are ignorant Baseball tards, just the majority that I come in contact with. I was attending a local minor league game this past weekend, when several displays of typical Yankee fan were on display. While walking through the stadium, everytime I heard some half cocked jerk screaming about normal daily activities, a Yankee fan there stood.

While I was watching the game, a giant blob of a human being sat down in front of me. He had on his "cool" Yankee gear, from head to toe. The best of the ensemble was the T-shirt, it read something like this:

World Series Championships: Yankee's 26 Red Sox 6

Adorning a T-shirt with said message tells me a couple of things. First off, this is a paltry attempt at a response to the biggest collapse in the history of sports. Second of all, this guys ego is so fragile, he wants everyone to know that his team is still better, even though most of what the shirt states happened before his 10th B-day.

If A Yankee fan wants to chat with me about their team, I would love it. I think this current lineup they are toting is their most compelling since 1996. They are finally implementing youth and role players, mostly through injury, but they are still employing an actual team. Not the bunch of mercenaries that has been masquerading around the bronx for the last decade or so. Unfortunately for them, and perhaps even the Sox, pitching is going to haunt this team. As usual, I'm sure deadline deals will patch up a few holes.

Well, I guess that was enough for my first real post in this forum, minus the introduction entry. :dunno:

Today's NY Post reports that Dotel has had a setback with Triceps tendinitis. He will not throw again until Thursday and that will be on flat ground. IMO the Yanks will be lucky if he returns after the All Star break. He'll be in no rush to come back, because he could endanger his career if he returns too soon. Don't kid yourselves by believing that he wants to get back ASAP to help the team win. That's just BS. His career comes first, so there is no way he returns until he is close to 100%.

octavio dotel??

imagine you're george steinberger

youve got 200,000,000.00 invested and your entire front office is hoping beyond hope that octavio dotel will be ready in a month

would you

(1)kill yourself

(2)kill brian cashman

(3)blame then fire joe torre

(4)fire the entire dream team of assistant coaches

(5)beg don zimmer to come back and right the wrongs

many options of ole georgie to look into

none appear to be solid solutions however

I would say you've done a pretty good job of disproving that.

Seriously, though, if some of you think the Red Sox don't have plenty of obnoxious and bandwagon fans, you're kidding yourselves. It's naturally going to happen with a team who consistently produces and is in a large market. There are plenty of reasons to dislike the Yankees, I'm sure, but disliking them because of this stereotype of Yankee fans is just ridiculous (especially when it can so easily be turned on Boston.)

optimist is on here

having had to sit thru the pink#19 hats and the posers who wouldnt know bucky dent from bucky crivello i have to agree with him here

the sweater ves wearing cell phone talkers who say such creative baseball things as

TREVOR LOOK

LOOK TREVOR CAN YOU SEE US NOW,LOOK IM WAIVING LOOK TREVOR to the corporate schills who have now discovered that fenway is indeed the place to be after work to the green monster seats which have tripled in price over the last 3 years

to the security people

looking sternly at you when you cheer to loudly so you dont interupt the conversation between the fat chick with the laptop and her lifetime partner at the office...

i was at game 3 against chicago last year when they got swept

it was almost a relief

there were hardly any real fans in the park

real fans struggle to pay for 1 ticket, never mind bringing a family of 4 to a game

its still cheaper for me to take my 4 to yankee stadium and get a hotel than it is for me to try to get yanks tix in fenway park

that is sad

real sad

and i blame these posers with bottomless pockets for this obscenity

the whole clean cut imag thing,

Yeah omg thats so totally a good reason to hate the Yankees! The nerve! An entire baseball team looking professional and presentable, to think. Damn I hate everyone in this world who doesn't look like a caveman.

In all seriousness, that's a pretty lame reason to hate the Yankees.

I don't think it's that, it's the way it's presented.

"Wow, we're the clean cut Yankees and you guys look like a bunch of scrubs."

As for Dotel, these are my favorite moments from his career...

I know every team has it's share of a-hole followers. Unfortunately for me, Rochester NY is bandwagon central. Somehow we are in the Yankee TV market, despite the 6 HOUR commute to NYC from my abode. The Yankee fans around me are the same as Dallas Cowboy fans. They started following sports and those were the teams that were winning. So in their infintie wisdom, they decided that if they root for that winning team they themselves would be winners. :dunno:

Well, it made Johhny Damon look like a tool...:harhar:

Jason Giambi was my favorite player while a member of the A's. Dude was fraking crazy looking. Then he goes to NY and looks like Ward Cleaver. I still like him but man did that really leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Arguing over what teams fans are more obnoxious is like arguing which political party has the best ideas.

Pointless.

You are right. I suppose I am a classic example of familiarity breeding contempt. Any one team's fans can be obnoxious. I just happen to be subjected to 200,000 Yankee fans.

theres a line of thinking in business that the more proffesional you dress the more proffesional you act.

i dont really buy into it with the yankees

i feel its just georges way of asserting his will upon his mercenaries

As repulsive as bandwagon fans are they are not the reason that Yankee fans are obnoxious. It has been pointed out that there are a growing number of these no-nothing fans at Fenway. It is the result of an increase of corporate-owned seats. These bandwagon fans would never spend their own money on a sports ticket, but they take up the best seats in the house for free and say stupid things like :Why are those seat up so high" as they point to the Monster seats. The Yankee fan characteristic that makes them uniquely obnoxious is this crazy notion that many of them have that rooting for the Yankees makes them somehow superior. It's hard to explain, because it is so bizarre. It does not afflict every Yankee fan, but it seems to affect many of their loudest fans. They somehow equate the success of the Yankees (26 championships) with their own self-worth. I know a lot of ******* fans that root for many different teams that are obnoxious in their own right, but none compare to the self-righteous arrogance of many Yankee fans. I want to be clear that not all Yankee fans are so afflicted, e.g. Optimist and others on these boards are not afflicted with this characteristic.

Interesting enough, only about 45min away from you, in Utica, NY is bandwagon central for Sox fans.

Of course I see the basic feinds with their Yankees fitted hats and really know nothing, but I know more Sox fans than Yankee fans, and all but one of them even knew who Pesky was, and why it was called the Pesky Pole..something all my 'Yankee' friends know.

I guess its just something your lucky with. I'd truly love to know 25 bitch Yankee fans over 25 bitch Sox fans, becuase at least the Yankee fans would find my stories of Red Ruffing interesting, all the Sox fans I know wanna do is watch the A-Rod-Veratek fight and watch Fever Pitch.
