If this team was a dog, and I was George Steinbrenner, I would have taken them out back yesterday...and come back alone.

...I don't know why I'd have to be George Steinbrenner, but still...

Okay, seriously, all I have to say about yesterday's game is...wasn't that soccer match exciting?

Nice to know that the Sox have a closer who doesnt let up runs

But seriously, how do you a blow a save against the Nats

It's easy when your manager doesn't understand how to manage a bullpen.

Phillips has traveled home on every day off to be with his wife as she deals with the debilitating side effects of chemo...

They learned last month that the chemo killed the cancer -- doctors delivered the news in an appointment on a Yankees off day, so Andy was there, too -- and they're finally returning to a sense of normalcy.

Bethany, given the go-ahead this past week to travel again, is here on her first road trip. What she and Andy have gone through is something they'd never wish on anyone else.

Wow, I had no idea this was going on (I didn't even know Andy was married.)

Or the manager doesn't have a bullpen.

No he has one he just doesnt know how to use it. He has overused Proctor and doesnt use Villion. He puts T.J. Beam in for 2 innings when he pitched 1.2 innings the prior day. He uses Matt Smith for 5 pitches when he has a limted pen. The only thing worse then Torre's use of the pen yesterday was Shawn Chacon.

He put his team in a situation in which if Wang cant give them 8 innings today they are screwed.

Rivera and Farnsworth are the Yankees only two capable bullpen pitchers. Bean doesn't project to anything except middle relief fodder. He's a 25 year old pitching in Trenton, earlier this year. His stuff doesn't really wow you either. Fastball doesn't have much movement, not much velocity either.

Villone is overrated. He's due for a major fall off in the next half. His WHIP is residing at 1.32, and his ERA is at 1.65. That's luck. Same with Matt Smith. Though, I don't know how highly rated he is. Myers gets one batter, then he's done.

The Yankees and Red Sox bullpens are both extremely fragile at the current time.

Does that mean you continue to use Proctor over Villone when Proctor is running on fumes? If he uses Villone instead of Proctor all of a sudden Proctor can close out the game today. Now they have to use Villone to close out the game. Matt Smith only threw 5 pitches. In a game in which you have a limited pen YOU HAVE TO EXTEND HIM. No excuses. I dont know if they would have won or not but they would be in a better position today. Today their only right hander is the amazing Jose Veres.

No. You probably have to go out and grab a relief pitcher or two. If Villone's a pitcher you're using in the eight inning, then you have serious bullpen problems. (Not that Taverez is much better)

Isnt that a given? I think that goes without saying. They need Dotel back and they need to get another pitcher.

How effective do you expect Dotel to be? He's coming off Tommy John surgery, and would probably be best off being eased back into the bullpen. With Torre? Dotel may not last one week.

From what I heard his velocity is back and his slider is sharp according to the people that I have talked to and read.

I feel ultra bad for Wang. He deserved a better fate. Terrible

I agree. He pitched very well today and deserved better.

I think you can pin these last two losses on Torre's misuse of the bullpen and Chacon's inability to give the Yankees innings yesterday.
