Who has gone straight from the Sox to the MFY in recent memory and vice versa? I mean a player that matters?

Evening VA.

Not anything recent but a couple of players I remember off the top of my head was Sparky Lyle getting traded to the Yanks, and Tiant leaving via FA. Luis wasn't as dominating by then, but he had a good year with NY, and he was the big arm for the Sox prior to that.

Johnny D is a media whore with a yappy mouth, has been since last year. What he said in the Times interview wasn't out of his norm. As long as he hits and plays well for the Yanks I don't really care what comes out of his mouth. I don't think most fans will. If he doesn't produce.... then it won't be such a comfy stay in NY.

Hey Fish!

Damon will do fine in NY, I'd be shocked otherwise....but he did the unthinkable...so therefore...he's a dead man to me.....

We'd still love to have you as a Sox fan....LMAO...oh that's right... you are you and not hawkstang...bwahahahahhahaha!!!

Did you see this article in the NY Times, where Damon says that Manny would be a good fit for the Yanks. He says we would be able to "relax", unlike with the Sox or the Mets.

I wonder if his whore wife told him to say that? :dunno:

I think his wife had alot to do with him going to the Yanks. I am sick of wives of players thinking that they are stars themselves. (Like Anna Benson). Just because you are made of plastic and are rich doesn't make you a star.

To paraphrase George Foreman in his book "By George" nothing can bring a man down like a woman. I still blame the Fuggly Soccer Pig for ruining the positive attitude and community spirit of one of Boston's greatest icons. Also, let's not forget Ryne Sandberg walking away from two years of his biggest contract to spend more time with his family. Within three weeks of announcing his retirement his wife sued him for divorce. By the next spring, Sandberg was begging for his job and had to agree to play for $1 million. He walked away from $13 million over the 2 year period to save a doomed marriage. I think the grounds for divorce was extreme stupidity.

It's only a matter of time til Mrs Sheff and Michelle Damon are featured on billboards from Dresden to Dusseldorf.

The Dodgers did. They were the 6 year team.

Forget where you got your rumor from, and think about this logically. Damon turns down more money/longer contract from an LA based team that has 3 of his former teammates on it? It just doesn't add up. First, he's all about the money, so I have a hard time believing he leaves one buffalo nickel on the table. Second, he and his wife are complete media whores, and LA is the one place that can surpass NY in terms of media opportunities. LA has more talk shows, more cameras, and more celebs to bump elbows with. This is right up the Damons' alley. Third, Damon was pretty close with Lowe, Mueller, and Nomar; Giambi is the only Yankee he's played with and developed a relationship with. I'm not buying it.

Hehehe...

So I says to the Lama, "Hey Lama, how's about a little somethin', you know, for the effort"...

The good thing about Damon is that we got his best four years. The FO didn't chase him very hard because they didn't want him and he's trying to get over that. when this FO dumped nomar no one should be surprised at them not going after Damon - they don't don't want players whose talents are declining as they get older.

Thankfully the coco quest worked out and we can watch him grow into an all-star wearing a B on his cap.

Well said. Although, it would be nice to have some players (Tek, Papi) around for their grand farewell. That said, I can't argue against the sensibility of it.

col good to see you this morning.

i trust all is well in the beltway?

we may not reap the benefits of crisp instead of damon this year however for the franchises future and in the business end of it you have to like the move.

with the sun shining high in the february winter morning i'm slowly wakening from hibernation after what i consider to be a bizzarre if not entertaining off season.

I think this will be the year we reap the most benefits from Coco. All you have to do is look at his numbers in MLB and his age and you'll see that this is going to be his breakout year.

could be

after 40 years of sox baseball im a pessimist at best

im thinking damon has a good year in ny..15 80 .295 110 runs..obp of .385-400 with lots of range

our guy will have similar #s with less obp but damon will trail off in the next few years while crisp will be coming on..

im not hoping he fails miserably really (dont get me wrong it would be cool since it would make us as the winners of not shelling out $$$), I do know however his batting avg will take a hit moving away from his cozy confines of Fenway to Babe Ruth's House

I haven't read this whole thread but I know what its about. I haven't been vocal about Johnny Damon since the move. I guess I'll say what I need to say right now:

Manny Ramirez will never be a New York Yankee unless he signs a contract after his years with the Red Sox. At that point he will be much older and not close to what he is worth now so thats fine. David Ortiz will not go to the Yankees because he is one of the greatest Red Sox hitters of all time. More beloved than anyone I have ever known to wear a Red Sox jersey. Fine, Johnny Damon was an icon but not close to what David Ortiz is. He IS the Red Sox as far as I'm concerned.

As for the once beloved Johnny Damon...He will need Bernie Williams as the cut off man between him and Jeter. He didn't have an arm for Fenway so this should be pretty funny. The man can cover some ground but there is some more ground to cover in Yankee stadium. He will probably overdue it and hurt himself which will be in a long line of injuries that started in 2005. If he wanted to recruit Red Sox players he should have gone to the Dodgers....the Yankees don't care about team unity or bringing players in that mesh well....they want the all-stars (and thats fine every team has a way of doing things). Mostly

I just want to say go screw yourself Johnny Damon...just because you made a stupid career choice doesn't mean you should attempt to bring everyone else along for the ride.

I dont see whats wrong with wishing some of the best hitters in the Majors were on your team. And quite honestly, I dont think the FO is that worried about Manny going to the Yanks. They did put him on waivers a couple of years ago.

mmhmm yeah like Im sure Theo will be like "Manny to the Yanks, big deal. Its only our biggest rival who we face 19 times." Andruw Jones to NY is a bigger possibility of Manny donning the stripes.

I really dont see it happening, at this stage the front office is past the "waivers idea" and more delved into trade considerations since they can actually get something in return. As for 2006, he'll be here and will still give a 40/120+ season. Then the next offseason we'll be back to talking about him again.

"It's great to be on his side," he said, "so now we can talk about the Yankee way."

Latest quote from Damon, talking about his first face to face meeting with Steinbrenner today.

Kinda makes me want to puke! :o
