They wouldn't lie but you can appear to be fine after a head injury and then suddenly ... not be fine. I think they're just going to play it safe and even if he's fine he'll sit atleast a week.

Schilling has seemed to find his groove, i do believe that. And Terry should listen to Curt, if he says he feels very fine to be starting, then he should start. Besides giving up a double in the 10th inning is a lot different than giving up one in the first innings of a game

I think I want Schilling pitching atleast a simulated game before I even consider putting him back in the rotation. Schilling is a starter and he wants to start, so naturally he's gonna say he can. He's probably believed he could when he came back but agreed to go to the bullpen to fill in for Foulke. I want Schilling back in the rotation more than anyone but only when he's really ready.

I was at the game last night and you could hear the impact, not a pleasant sound, all the way down the left field line by the foul pole. Radio reports have him doing fine, which is great to hear. There were no updates during the game, and my thoughts and prayers were with him the whole time I was there. Get well Matt!

They said on ESPN radio that Clement told his father he will make his next start. He has nothing more than a head ache and a sore neck.

STOP ... HAMMER TIME

 *dances*

Wow, make his next start? That's truely amazing.

and very lucky. This had the chance to be MUCH MUCH worse. With a day off tomorrow, the Sox could figure out how to give him an extra day (or two) without hurting the club. The guy they just brought up (DiNardo) could make an emergency start if necessary, plus they have that old guy in the bullpen who could start.

Great news though. Glad Matt's OK.

Could this have been a blessing in disguise? If Hammer is as healthy as they're telling us he is, and he's going to make his next start then this may have been a good thing. Maybe it brings this team a little closer together. Maybe Manny realizes how much this team means to him. Who knows, but seeing a healthy Hammer on the mound in a week would be truly amazing.

Best Case: We catch fire and maybe run away with the division.

Worst Case: Hammer comes back ... goes 16-5 and helps us get to the playoffs.

im so glad to hear matty is ok. i dont want to sound like a doctor or anything but the bone behind the ear is the most dense (hardest) bone in the body. low caliber bullets have been known to bounce off this area. good thing too because that baseball was a freakin bullet.

I'm still very skeptical about all this. a little part about his physical status cause anytime you're dealing with the head area, it's always a little sketchy.

but my main concern is how he'll hold up psychologically and whether subconsciously, he winds up changing his delivery somewhat

He was in good spirits, and I think that any player in sports knows the dangers that's involved. He'll be fine. Both CT scans came back negative.

Sorry if this is inappropriate, but he has one of the coolest-looking soul patches I've seen in sports in awhile!

I just don't understand how a person can take a f***ing baseball going at least 90 MPH off the head, get knocked unconscious and have nothing wrong with him. believe me, I'll be thrilled if after a few days, he's fine but man, he must have a superhuman skull

A baseball is much less massive than the human head. Much less massive things transfer very little enery to the more massive one during a collision.

The skull is very hard everywhere except the temple, and baseballs, while hard, can compress and bounce.

Speaking of OUCH! - did anyone see Sosa slide into Rangers catcher Rod Barajas? He was out by a mile or so - and suddenly he kicks his leg into the air and the cleat goes into the chest/arm area. You have to see the video to determine for yourself if it was just another danger that comes along with blocking the plate - or if it was a dirty one. Barajas is sitting out tonight's game for obvious reasons.

Oh my gosh, at first I saw blue and I thought it was the Cubs, and I'm like, "Wow, bitter much?" :o

Someone called it a Ty Cobb-like play...says it all in itself.

The same type of thing happened to Chipper Jones today. I forget who lsid into him, but he tore his pants up. The player apologized profusely to Chipper right after the play, but he definitely didnt look happy about it.
