Ahh, that would be Nationals player rounding third, Jose Guillen. And I remember Darin Erstad having a home-plate collision with Johnny Estrada that really riled the Braves.

Sometimes it's close; other times it's not-so-close, but it always hurts. It almost makes me sympathize with why Posada hardly ever blocks the plate. Almost.

I know this is off topic, but the Guillen and Sosa play ought to be reviewed by MLB. If you watch either replay, they are both extending their legs so as to maximize the impact. The intent to hurt was there on both plays. Erstad running into the catcher to knock the ball loose is playing hard, kicking your leg "spikes-up" is an attempt to disable. I think suspensions should be issued.

Sosa seemed like he really didn't mean it, he got up and apologized as soon as it happened and really looked like he meant it, Guiellen was full of s*** and should have gotten the crap beat out fo him.

Sosa was out, by a mile - and that play could've seriously injured Barajas. He knew the plate was going to be blocked - and yes, any attempt at trying to jar to ball from the catcher's glove is dangerous, but to throw his cleat up in the air - that's something Cobb-like, intentional or not.

Sammy-san has some karate chops. Who's his teacher, A-Rod?

Well in his case Sosa apologized afterward, calling the Rangers club, and Barajas being classy said he didn't think any less of Sosa for it, but that the play should not have happened. I didn't read more about Guillen, though.

I've said this before, but I think it's actually surprising from a factual standpoint, that more pitchers don't get hit by line drives. They're hit directly at the pitcher - I've seen a couple web gems that had they not been caught upon immediate reflex, it could've been ugly - and especially in college where alumininum bats are used. PING!
