  1. While I believe that Ceddanne should never be moved out of CF, I do agree with the hypothesis that a lot of regression *for Duran* is due to playing out of position. But the best move to address that is to simply trade him to a team that needs a CF.
  2. if Mil is looking to cut payroll, then Peralta won't be on the block. The correct target for the RS should be Woodruff, pending a huge drill-down into his medicals. Peralta, at $8M, is going to cost a lot of prospects. Woodruff, at $22M, will cost a lot less.
  3. I'd be real happy with Alcantara. That would give us a 1-4 that could compete with anyone. After that, throw out the 5-slot to the best pitcher coming out of ST.
  4. Crawford led the league in losses in 2024, finished the year with a 6.59 ERA in the second half, and missed 2025. He's not an option. And it's not to say that any of our #6/7/8/9 guys couldn't develop. But starting the year with 2 question marks in your rotation is going to make it a long season.
  5. Getting Sonny Gray does nothing to address our major needs. We needed three SPs. That's a major need. I'd love a #2, or better yet, another #1. But when you only have 2 SPs, you have a major need for pitching.
  6. Over the past three seasons, FG has him as the 5th (6th) highest WAR. While anything can happen, if you think he is a 4/5, I question your knowledge of pitching.
  7. Of course he addresses one of our major needs. We had two locked-in SPs on the team. We have some decent pitching prospects, but we had ONLY TWO real pitchers. Crochet was CY-level, and Bello was kind of meh+. So our #3, #4, and #5 SPs were going to be an injured Sandoval, Early with 4 career starts, and Tolle with 3 (weak) career starts. That's not a serious approach. Seriously, am I missing someone? Is there an SP on our team that I am missing?
  8. Rafaela might be the best CF I've ever seen. He's not changing positions.
  9. Sure, but if he hit lefties as well as he does righties, he'd be a perennial AS, and there would be no question of getting traded.
  10. Interesting, but I doubt it. Good player, but a lefty, injury-prone, and expensive.
  11. I agree on all counts. I want a #2 (or even a #1), but if they choose to focus on hitting, I can live with this rotation. Gray could always get old at any time, but he was terrific last year. Clarke has some talent, but his BB9 rate was reminiscent of Darwinzon.
  12. Maybe it has something to do with needing 5 starting pitchers, and we only had 2 SPs, and 6 guys trying out for the #3, #4, and #5 slots. Even with Gray, I think we need another SP, preferably a #2 type.
  13. That's ridiculous. FG projects him to be one of the best pitchers in BB with a 3.45 ERA and a 4.0 WAR.
  14. I was going to say the same thing. In his final 12 games, he had a 3.13/3.75 ERA/FIP with a 69/18 K/W in 77.2 IPs. In his final 8 games, it was a 2.68/3.62 with a 52/10 in 53.2 IPs. That's really good. And his contract is affordable, but expensive enough that Miami will be motivated to trade him.
  15. My pure guess is that he was wrapped up with Harrison. The Giants wanted payroll relief, the RS balked and asked for Harrison if they had to take Hicks. Maybe a little hubris by the RS thinking they could revert Hicks back into a good BP piece?
  16. I like it. I think we've seen all that Fitts can be. Clarke could be good, but his BB9 is frightening. I don't agree with the article labeling Gray as a #2, but I think he is definitely a good, maybe very good, #3. Just as important, we now have 3 dependable arms. If we spent the rest of the off-season pursuing bats, I wouldn't be happy, but we might have just enough of a rotation to get by. But I still want to package up Duran and/or Abreu+ for another live, controlled arm. But looking through the glass half-full, we got gray for the tail-end of a Yankee trade plus a 5th rounder.
  17. It's remarkable that TX let him go. I know he was old, but he had a 43/3 K/W in 36 IPs. That's almost impossible. And he finished 2012 with a 0.09 FIP in September, with a 19/1 K/W. And he had a 16/0 K/W in our playoff run in 2013. Man, did we ever get lucky there.
  18. But the point being that we need some reliability in the rotation. I'd like to acquire Greene, Chandler, Burns, Lodolo, or maybe several others. But if we don't land any of those guys, we still need a reliable SP.
  19. That assumes that the RS forgot to send out a group text saying Ward was available.
  20. GGs are meaningless, but Abreu grades out well across the board. His defense will be valued.
  21. If the Red Sox can’t get someone younger, and better don’t bother. It feels like these two posts are in conflict each other. I'm in the camp of acquiring a #2 or even a #1, and would put real prospects on the table. And maybe even sign a good #4. For the fans that want to go in-house if we can't get a #2, that won't work. That would leave us with: Crochet Bello Sandoval Early Tolle We would struggle to play .500.
  22. After 2019, we won 84 games, had the highest payroll in BB, and the worst farm. Even for rich teams, sometimes you cycles where all your young guys are starting to get paid real money, and all the older guys with big contracts, are starting to decline. We needed a re-boot.
  23. Cots has them as $47.3, and they are very accurate. Your numbers are probably the same with some rounding or bonus payments.
  24. I am decidedly against measuring offense in terms of HRs. Everything I've ever looked at suggests OBP trumps HRs in terms of scoring.
  25. I don't know, which is why I raised the question. His lack of time there is what concerns me.
