  1. Gun to my head: Mayer (at his contract) vs Story (at his contract) one must be traded for a bag of pretzels coming back....Im keeping STory, shipping Mayer
  2. He is worth the contract going forward due to the steep increase teams are paying for short term, but he wont ever be worth the contract overall, unless he has a monster MVP season with a ship. Hes a professional, hes likeable. Hes our best hitting infielder who is not a first baseman. 23.5 is like Gleybar Torres AAV money.
  3. Yes , and thats no small if. Im glad we did it because I was very glad at the time and dont want to be a hindsight revisionist. But I agree kind of a steep price for a contract with more downside than upside.
  4. They have a long established history with the Celtics. Its all over the floor, but I imagine thats a TV imposed graphic and not an actual floor decal. Celtics use to practice at our gym, doubt they still do.
  5. Or that other guy Brendan Rogers (who I keep almost calling Brandon Philllips)
  6. Did he? Because if so, we should prob keep him around at least until Romy gets back , right? Contreras could use some lineup help against lefties!
  7. I agree, I didnt expect him to stay a second year on that offer. Thats kind of an example of (slight) homerism. Fans expecting him to stick around on that deal. ONe of my buddies did. He doubled his guaranteed money! (80 remaining vs 175 on new contract). Of course he was always going to.
  8. This took me a couple secs to piece together (little slower this morning, havent slept well this week) - but Im glad I put in said seconds and connected it.
  9. Are you really not familiar with the university? Do you not watch Celtics games. I doubt Im the only regular poster here with a Bentley degree. Its 15mins west of Cambridge, probs 25 mins west of Boston proper.
  10. If ST games barely count , the NU game especially doesnt count* *Says the Bentley grad whose dad and cousins went to BU
  11. I would agree with you except that I said this last year haha.
  12. I expected them to resign him to a similar contract he had signed the year before. Not sure if that counts towards what MVP was saying. I think everyone expected he would be here this year, even Breslow after Bregman told him he wouldnt be. This happened to me once. I quit a job and nobody believed me.
  13. TY for clarification. I honestly think it depends on too many variables for me to project out. I dont think it would take too many injuries to see this. Could wind up with an Abreu/Campbell platoon in right.
  14. I recall a few people glad he opted out, I dont feel like going and searching.
  15. I agree, but I agree less after the Jackson Holliday injury because he was one of the guys who had a good bounce back chance after a decent but disappointing (vs expectations) rookie season.
  16. Fair enough. Did you mean today (notably RA at WBC)?
  17. Are minor league splits available? Does anybody know if Campbell hit lefties better than righties in AAA last year?
  18. You will have guys whose stock will raise as the season progresses and guys whose stock will fall. We'll adjust to the twists and turns as best we can like every team.
  19. Entertainment?
  20. Who I would play where depends on variables. Im more of a think on my feet guy than have every potential possibility planned out. What if Masa is hitting .830 OPS on the year and Campbell is hitting .690 in AAA.
  21. Teams: we like to be positionally versatile and have some ML ready talent parked in AAA, and handle depth that way. Fans : if player x gets hurt, then player y gets hurt the plan would be to do this, then that, then this. Its not that specific. There are no "of the futures" there are no set in stone roadmaps of how to handle : if Mayer struggles, and then abreu is dinged and needs a night off and theres a righty on the mound - heres how they will look. They dont have options A,B,C,D,E on the depth chart. And if they do, its suggestions/loose. Teams wannt to be versatile enough to shift and roll with the punches in 2026. Breslow literally told you one of the reasons he got Durbin was because he can play 2b OR 3b. But fans try to pencil it all in positionally.
  22. Because versatility is good and they want to keep that as an option. How much OF Masa will get , like most things, right now is a giant TBD. Penciling in depth charts and wanting to plan for all these outcomes is a fan thing. Teams are trying to be versatile and deep to cover a bunch of "ifs" NOT have a roadmap for how they will handle every "if" Its all fluid.
