  1. Watching Rafaela foul off several of Ort's 3-2 strike pitches and then chase high and inside for the K hurts. People like to say that a batter who fouls off 5-6 pitches is offering a tough AB. No, it means the batter cannot hit what would otherwise be a strike
  2. Well, Max, it is a Friday game at home. That by itself is a double whammy.
  3. Shredded Wheat come to mind
  4. Brilliant Bullpen work , 8 batters , 7 hits , 4runs and 1 out with the bases loaded. Got a decent start from Houck but the BP blows like a hooker
  5. Caleb Ort pitching again in Boston. This should be good
  6. Houck playing with fire tonight but brought his own extinguisher . Good escapes and moderate pitch count. Should be good for 6, but AC will keep him on short leash. Otherwise let it rain bigly now
  7. Sogard shows good plate discipline and pitch recognition, immediately followed by Rafaela doing the same. great examples today
  8. DHam does not have the same negative reaction to RISP as some at the upper levels. Timely and well placed hit for 2 RBI's
  9. Abreu was as bad, taking a K3 which was in the zone, then complaining about the call . 3 straight LH hitters, heart of the lineup, and only 1 contact, a soft bouncer by Yoshida.
  10. The pitching which was hurting anyway gets worse not better, although Cam Booser is back in the BP. I think we will see a BP game here soon, which may not be a bad idea.
  11. Once again the Sox cannot score with a RISP, no outs in the first. Play from behind is the mantra.
  12. That is so bad it is almost laughable. Told you Bello had no command nor control. Who did Criswell sit near, O'Neill?
  13. Good article by Speier in the Globe , using several analytics, to discuss the problems of Sox starters after the A-S break . Fatigue is only one factor . Middle -middle pitches are a small factor. Pitching on the edges , and not inducing swing/misses with 2 strikes seems to be an issue. Umpire strict calls on very close pitches doesn't seem to be part of the issue , but they are inning changers. Pivetta having to skip a turn is a bit surprising since he is not exactly a first time starter. Grissom assigned to WooSox makes sense . He will get a turn on the 26 , I am sure, before season end.
  14. The team won the series, on the road, against the team ahead of them. Probably the best you could expect. Win every series from here on out and the results will speak for themselves. Big question, can the Sox win 2 series at Fenway vs Astros and Rangers ? Only the bullpen knows. Starting pitching needs 3 good games of the 6. Oh , and the hitters have to carry the load with 6-8 runs per game.
  15. Today is a getaway day for the Sox , going for a sweep. The game is not over with just a 4 run separation. But teams on getaway day lose 62 % of the time , surely in a hurry to get home and see Momma.
  16. Wow, What if Boston pitching keeps feeding Bobby Witt, Jr cookies. He might get fat and slow down.
  17. The shortage of starting pitching became a reality after Giolito went down, followed by Whitlock. The pickup , months later, of Paxton is a bandaid not a long term solution. I would run Criswell out there in Kutter's turns. Breslow will still need to find 4 starters over the winter because he is losing Paxton and Pivetta, unless he wants them back. Clearly there is no one in Worcester ready to move up. This topic has now existed through the last 2 years of Bloom and 1 of Breslow but no real fixes have been made.
  18. Somewhere Earl Weaver is smiling. A 2out, 3 run HR by power hitter Romy Gonzalez. Amazing
  19. Interesting comments on NESN on how Cora and Bailey are working with Crawford who is one of the best at getting to 0-2 on hitters, but not so sharp on closing the batter out. Immediately Crawford gives up an 0-2, 2 out RBI single.
  20. The opportunity for a WooSox infield enhanced when O'Neill goes on IL for a leg infection, and Enmanuel Valdez returns. Another curious move is sending cam Booser to Worcester to make room for Chris Martin, who I predict won't last very long before his elbow is sore again.
  21. Did not take Crawford long to give up the HR to the most obvious player on the Royals. KC not held back by the 1st inning blues. Sox in familiar territory, playing from behind.
  22. 2 soft bouncers and a K vs a LH'er. WTF guys
  23. Can the Sox turn a leaf and score early in the game ? Talking to you Jarren, Rob R. and Romy, get the line to Raffy , so we can play from ahead in this sweep opportunity. Trying to be upbeat, but these guys have not hit well in the 1st. Of course when Romy Gonzalez is hitting third, it means Tyler O'Neill is still recovering from the stomach flu. And don't look now but Moonslav the game thread starter is going for 4 in a row ! Bring it home big guy !
