  1. Looks like the reintroduction of the fastball at 95++ may give Bello a further boost when combined with his changeup at mid-low 80's.
  2. When will this thread morph into a "Fire Breslow" theme ? We can say that we don't know JH's actual limitations on Breslow's ability to compete for top talent, but if we look at Dithering Bloom's 3+ years and Craig's first season, it appears evident the rules are no big contracts for pitchers, fans love offense anyway. Hope we all love 12-10 games because the Sox will be on both sides of many.
  3. Consider the premise of Bailey's appproach---If you don't have a live fastball, then don't throw it. Go with breaking stuff to avoid getting pounded on your FB. When the arm tires, the snap off spin slows down and you see MLB hitters teeing off on your breaking stuff and the FB was never good enough anyway. Combine that with not having a reliable out pitch ( splitter, sinker, screwball ) and you have a lot of 2 out rallies , and 2 strike HR's.
  4. Regarding Luis Garcia, just look at the circus tent he came out of in Anaheim to question Breslow's and his team of analyzers ability to judge a pitcher . Never take an Angel. Criswell may have been feeling the effects of the Covid, but Cora hung him out to dry , mainly due to no other options available. Maybe the starting pitchers need to do their side sessions on the actual mound for an inning or so.
  5. Which team should be more worried about their pitching---Orioles or Red Sox ? Only the one looking seriously at the playoffs.
  6. I might have missed this strategy but why is Gasper on the bench as a 3rd catcher , in lieu of keeping Dom Smith up for a few days , if only to PH or late relief ?
  7. Hyde finally wises up and brings in a LH reliever.
  8. I'll give Criswell a half-pass because he may be weakened by the Covid illness, BUT he becomes one more of the too many Sox pitchers who cannot close the door with 2 outs, 2 strikes on many hitters because they lack a definitive out pitch
  9. Can't get too excited about Yoshida's bomb because who the heck will get the next 18 outs ? Almost impossible.
  10. That was a poor effort to stop that pitch. If Conor was in the NFL, he would get cut because he can't block.
  11. Rational opinion. What exactly has Story done in the minimal games he did play over the past 2 seasons ?
  12. i think you are truly correct here. It will take Casas some time ( week/month ?) to catch back up to MLB pitching , and he does not get to hit vs the Sox pen. Maybe Breslow could have sent Sogard, Gonzalez, etc. down for a week or two and keep Smith handy . Casas did have plenty of time in WooSox land. Odd that a foul ball hurt him. Hopefully not a 3 run jack
  13. And the wait to see if he has recovered and can hit a ton has started. Wither Dom Smith ?
  14. Allowed the most HRs of any team since A-S break, about 58 or so. Tired arms throwing meatballs
  15. It's interesting to note that Bailey Horn's entire MLB career has been exclusively with the Red Sox. Brez should give him a chance to see more of the league, maybe even the NL.
  16. Back to where he was in April/May when the shoulder was really hurting
  17. I was slightly wrong but I said he would not get another hit all remaining season. Hope that is not close to accurate but maybe he needs to drop off the leadoff spot.
  18. Pivetta just can't get through a start without multiple HR's
  19. Then the jerk misses K3 for Pivetta, who is so upset he gives up a Pivetta special to go down 2-1. F'ing umpires suck at HP
  20. Cheers for Wilyer Abreu who has been a strong development for the Sox. He is not a warning track hitter
  21. That K3 call on Raffy may well be the worst of the year by anybody. Terrible eyesight. High and wide.
  22. Credit where due, Nick P. gives an efficient 3 shutout innings, matching Eflin.
  23. 3rd inning, is this Pivetta time ? His overall control is not great and his breaking pitchers rarely are close enough to entice weak swings. As much as the Sox need pitching, it would take 2 TUMS to get excited about signing him to a significant contract.
  24. Why does Boston have such a hard time getting a quick lead in the first inning ? This has been a long trend this year. One reason is that Duran K's frequently in his 1st AB since the A-S break.
  25. The manager, AC, is saddled with playing a revolving door of true rookies at key positions ( or out of position guys like Cedanne) in the infield . This is not the sign of a team making the playoffs. Story's and Grissom's season long injuries created the same problems in the field that the Giolito, Whitlock, Martin and other short term injuries in the rotation and BP . The FO has failed to support this team with any kind of notable acquisition. This strict adherence to JH's business plan of internal development , lux tax avoidance and adequacy of young players was and is a sellout. Their semi-success to date and the 30,000+ attendance only reinforces that plan. Games are being played , and not ones on the field. Fans are being played for fools.
