  1. I am confused. I thought FWAR, fWar and UZR determined the league champions . Please clarify. Scoring more runs than the opponent on any given day wins games. I think the stats show which guys should be playing , so they have their use.
  2. Eovaldi was ok vs. the Phillies , just not dominating. Dever's error or Mitch's failure to make a great pick at first to save it didn't help. The failure of several guys to get the big hit wit numerous RISP led to this loss. Kelly and Pom also showed they are still very suspect when it comes to high pressure situations. I am not the fan of Leon's pitch calling that others are, particularly in critical situations. I don't see the pitchers throwing their best pitch with 2 strikes, or with 2 outs.
  3. Of the soon to be FA's. I would go for Pearce , as a platoon with Moreland, and Eovaldi only because he starters are hard to find. Wright is still a question mark, and 7, even 8 starters is often not enough. he is not worth a big premium in length or money, however. The bullpen is the need, looking for consistency as much as anything. Most teams would be happy to lose only 40% of their games , unlike the 30% the Sox may achieve in this one off season.
  4. You would think that the proof of WAR and its variations for position players and pitchers applied over a 10 year period, correlated for results in the season standings would provide some consistency of results. Better WAR cumulatively, better standings results. As many have mentioned the playoffs , whether 1 game, 5 games or 7 game series are subject to numerous variances and almost by definitions are small samples. But there still would be some correlation even if with wider variances to full seasons. I am not the stat geek, but what do you who know the numbers say to that?
  5. Could not agree with you more !
  6. Did you just buy out Henry, Lerner and the idiot ??? Then you can impose your will Jung, although I give you much credit for good observations of reality. We can at last laugh after a loss which was shared by the Yankees
  7. It's a loss, but on the road a split is acceptable. Also it exposes Pomeranz again as a guy to not be concerned with, just set aside. Any concern about the big lead in the East being an advantage for Cora to try many options (?), or the big lead becomes an excuse for sloppy play prior to the playoffs? Cora ought to have the watch the video of the last part of the 1978 Yankee- Red Sox one game playoff to stir their s***.
  8. He actually doesn't need to go. He can just clog the bullpen without being used except in a laugher all the way through September, then he can go. Maybe he's a LOOGY instead of a whole inning.
  9. Oh well, even a .700 winning team loses 30% of the time. Unlike an almost .300 hitter, like Benintendi, who fails 70% of the time. 1 HR from your LF'er in last 24 games, but 13 rbi, so not useless.
  10. How did Benintendi get 70 rbi ? I must have been asleep and will admit to it. He does not bring warm fuzzies in tough situations recently.
  11. Drew be done, tonight, this month, next month, next year, etc.
  12. That was a good observation. Mine was that Beni hasn't made good contact except when the pitch hit him
  13. Does anyone here have a 2 strike pitch that works ???
  14. 0-2 pitches ??? Please Drew, get a grip
  15. Mitch could have worked a walk on 3-2 but their eyes are always bigger than their bats. This is enough to make me a Rays fan for tonight only, and they are winning in the top 8th, 6-1. Oh wait , we get the Rays next, spoiler alert.
  16. That is the story of this season and I think they will do it as they are getting deep in the bullpen, but may need to PH Mookie which Cora should do when there are RISP.
  17. Another 21 pitch inning from a Red Sox reliever throwing everything but his best pitch. And yes, I know all MLB hitters can hit anyone's gas after seeing a couple, but why start every hitter with the secondary pitches.
  18. So he hits a 320' sac fly on a curve ball. Thanks Joe and Sandy
  19. If Kingery gets anything but FB's, then screw Leon's pitch calling
  20. Get ready , here come the breaking balls in the dirt
  21. Cannot pitch with 2 strikes, and beat the hitter with stuff close enough to chase or down. Not just Joe, but several relievers.
  22. Saw enough to overturn ?? Win some , lose some
  23. Pearce can hit Hunter, who is a slob
  24. Got to love Devers no clue single. He had apparently talked to EO about his hitting plan on the first two pitches, then forgot the plan
  25. EO-- 2 strikes, 2 outs, no answer. I appreciate Leon's pitch mix solution to confusing the hitters but back in the 3 run inning there maybe should have been more hard FB's . especially to Santana off the bench.
