  1. Can't have a slow game when both pitchers are efficient and only a few reach base. Prefer this one to stretch out starting in top 7
  2. Moreland scorches it to the deepest part of the warning track
  3. Beeks came in for the 2nd inning and did not give up the 1st inning run to NY. Now he's through the third and hasn't allowed a run nor hit.
  4. Now can Rick settle down and refocus, or blow it up ??
  5. As long as the big lead in the East lasts, I'm sure Cora will give Devers plenty of reps to find himself but he certainly needs to recognize pitches better. Try looking at a few without swinging until the pitcher comes to the strike zone. He's a virtual auto 0-2 coming up right now, without a pitch in the zone.
  6. Yanks up 1-0 in top 3rd
  7. No need for pitchers to throw Devers a strike.
  8. Porcello is very efficient tonight and that is a good sign. Has his curve ball working well, and spotting strikes on the corners
  9. The 10 pitch at bats by Beni are interesting to OB and Eck, but so far all those pitches have accounted for 3 outs out of 9 featuring a K and a DP
  10. Maybe Porcello can DH back in Boston
  11. Take what you get at the plate from Sandy and be happy
  12. The real life Crash Davis getting only a couple cups of coffee over 10 years, but which fan wouldn't trade for that experience . At 31, he has a lot of years left where he can work in the real world.
  13. Based on that interesting assessment from 2012, Ted Williams should have hit cleanup for Boston, not 3rd over those many years. Maybe that 1 victory a year attributed to lineup analysis would have won the AL in '48 and '49 . Ted could have had 3 WS and contributed more to his legend than the 1946 series against the Cardinals. In 1978, one game would have made another big difference. Was Yaz hitting 3rd ??
  14. Thornburg could also be a DL or waiver trade candidate at this point. Hembree certainly is , now that he has become a ROOGY. Telling Velazquez to cool his heels in Pawtucket for 2.5 weeks is most likely unless DD is actively talking to other teams dangling pitchers . The Dodgers just blew 3 games in a row to the Rockies in the 9th with Jansen went on the DL with arrythmia.
  15. I have often thought that putting your worst hitter at #9, especially a slow runner was a wrong tactic.. Why clog the basepaths in front of your quicker, better hitters coming up when the #9 does reach base. Hide your least capable hitter at #8 and work around him.
  16. You finally noticed !! Glad you came over to the dark side. I will give you credit for having the stats, and the biggest one is the 50 games over .500. Someone out there in bullpen land is doing something right.
  17. Kimbrel , like his bullpen buddies, gets the job done in an innovative manner. If starters used the number of pitches per inning thatthese guys do , they would be at 100 by the 4th-5th inning. It really must be a new approach to pitching.
  18. Was worried we would get the 5th run and Kimbrel would not be in a save situation, thoroughly confusing him.
  19. You are so right. Jones may not have wanted to be traded but he quit big time on that one, and is probably sick of playing .
  20. Yes, he can show them the videotape of their off balance, overthrowing tendencies and get them back to their base mechanics instead of trying to throw it through Leon's glove. Try strikes on the edge of the zone.
  21. What was it about Barnes's inning that could use improvement. Not much, he only got beat to first on a bouncer, gave up another hit, walked one and held the lead, using only 20 pitches. Quality job, Matt
  22. Kimbrel is going to get a good shot at showing how he approaches his save opportunity. Love to see a return to the 10 pitch shutdown inning.
  23. There is no way I will ever acknowledge Barnes as an effective reliever. Take his stats with him to the off season.
  24. I think the varying opinions on the BP stem from a lack of predictable consistency, and set roles among the relievers, except for Kimbrel. Stat-wise, they appear very good on paper, but can't pass the eye test. For example, Thornburg did not give up a run, actually improved his ERA but it was a terrible performance. Many references made recently to Uehara, who I believe was not perfect (close to it) but was very consistent. They also use a lot of pitches to get the job done limiting their ability to throw on consecutive days. The trend towards 5 and 6 inning starters also pressures the pen into many more appearances. Price's shutout effort yesterday was only good for 18 outs.
  25. Thornburg's s*** eating grin as Brasier cleans up his mess
