Take a marginal guy who gives you a great, confidence building start and f*** him by not knowing what to do. Your bullpen is tired ?? They should be after last night. Oh boy now Kimbrel can get another save. No excuses on leaving Johnson in after the forst base runner
Another twist on this season is that the Red Sox lead MLB in wins with 5 LH'ers who have started multiple games. That's not typical for a Fenway based team.
Johnson needs this inning to get in line for a win that will even up his record at 3-3. Like to see a full six if he can get it. Then the bullpen denizens start their parade again.
To look at the obvious stats, there is little comparison between Johnson and Pomeranz:
Johnson IP's 69 ER's allowed 27 ERA 3.52 K's 64 BBs 22 WHIP 1.42 BAA .269 HR's 9
Pomeranz 51 " " 36 "" 6.31 K's 44 BBs 32 WHIP 1.81 BAA .299 HR's 10
Draw your own conclusions about who has the ability to get it done with their skill level
Johnson and Pomeranz are both LH'ers. They both throw slow teaser pitches. What's the difference in both reality and perception ? Johnson works quickly and throws strikes with his slop stuff (14 in first 20 pitches)
It usually is. Actual Sox players often don't arrive until the 7th inning, then takes one or two to warm up. If they didn't use these imposters early, the league would have to ban them for being too good.
