  1. Abreu and Story come through in the bottom 8 to get the lead for Chapman to close. Encouraging to pull this game out . Bello is up for a win after all and did not burn the bullpen .
  2. Red Sox LH hitters just LUV that sweeper action. Like ice cream on a hot day.
  3. So Bello is the guy who gives up a .340 BA to hitters AFTER going 0-2 on them. That tells you something. This time he walks a guy after being ahead 0-2 and then gives up an HR on a lazy slider. Bello reminds me of that offbrand battery, NEVER READY I could easily dislike him as much as I did Devers . Must be something about DR millionaires . Papi and Pedro must cringe at these younger players
  4. Interesting that the Red Sox have not been able to solve the 2B question since Pedey's demise. Grissom is a major disappointment with little residual value, and Campbell, short of experience, just isn't ready yet . He may be next year. The right answer after all could be Mayer at SS and Story at 2B. Getting Bregman back opens that door. If necessary just reverse Marcello and Trevor to avoid hurt feelings. The problem with that is Story's arm is not great at SS, Mayer would be better there.
  5. Bello will be starting the day game remnant. Daytime Bello better be ready to pitch and go the 6 innings remaining. Why is that a questionable proposition ? Otherwise it becomes a BP 6 inning game, then the night game . Brayan could really help his team if he can deliver 5 or 6 strong innings. No known starter for the night game at this point, since it was supposed to be Bello.
  6. The rain delay defers Fitts attempt to get a win and puts the game into the BP which should be interesting. Hope it doesn't rain out and lead to a DH tomorrow. Have not seen a forecast update
  7. Certainly looks like Roman has adjusted and is now for real. Nice to see him batting right behind Duran. If Jarren survives the trade deadline still in Boston , these 2 could be a dynamic duo. With a couple weeks more time in MLB than Anthony , Mayer also looks like the real deal . With these guys getting better weekly and Bregman coming back , the lineups could be much improved. And not to discount Narvaez who continues to hit and catch well. Rafaela is hitting well enough such that you don not have to make the defensive skills his only ability. It could be the core of a young , talented lineup for several years. And, most importantly, cost effective ( sarcasm)
  8. The correct answer to "Who's on first ?" is "Not Devers"
  9. It defies explanation how the Red Sox bats can be so volatile one day and deadly slow the next. But it is a .500 team so win one/lose one is the mantra. Note that the batting stats start to become skewed by the blowout wins. Mayer and Anthony may be getting over their initial newbie problems and are becoming comfortable hitting at Fenway. Give Brandon a win tonight so July starts in the right direction. 0-3 Fitts would appreciate it too.
  10. Being realistic, Bregman's pending return in about 20 days will require him to get back up to MLB speed, say end of July. He will help . Move Mayer to 2B and solidify that position for awhile . Leave Story at SS and avoid further controversy, pending the trade deadline . Give YOSHIDA a shot at DH very soon so that other teams can see he can hit, then trade and eat the contract , no controversy there. Platoon Toro and Gonzalez and hope for a plate presence from our 1Bman Clear the OF overload and move guys like Duran/Abreu as needed to get Anthony and perhaps Garcia in the mix. Leave Campbell at WooSox until rosters open up in September . The trade deadline must address controllable , younger ( post TJ) starting and/or relief pitching . Houck may be shot , Crawford may be shot, Fitts/Dobbins may or may not be good for '26. Buehler is another fail try at rehabbing a pitcher . While it could still happen, there is absolutely no sign that the Sox are able to consistently compete with the current AAAA crew playing /pitching daily. Get better as AC continually says.
  11. Eddie Kasko was a prick, Fox and Runnels were great friends, Hal Brown was a nice guy , but the slob in the bunch was Walter Bonds who left a trail of debris wherever he went. He could hit but not like Barry or Bobby. The clubhouse manager was Whitey Diskin , who was nearly blind, so I had to sort the uniforms to make sure they went to the right lockers. It was a great experience .
  12. Don't pop my bubble, those were my boys and I picked up their bats and clubhouse trash.
  13. Chris Sale fractured a rib trying to field a ball and is on ATL's IL ??? The trade is finally justified . Grissom can still be on the field, although it is the field in Worcester.
  14. Due to a complex level of various LLC's or partnerships , the FSG entities do appear to be distinct entities, tax situations, laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions. JH may be a majority owner ( doubt it) but clearly is the managing partner with authority to make executive decisions. I would discount 99.9% the chance that the checking accounts , budgets and cashflows for each sport entity under FSG are comingled.
  15. Having batboy'ed for the indomitable Houston Colt .45's under the inspired leadership of Harry Craft, I take umbrage at any batboy being the cause of the Sox multiple ineptitudes in 2025. Those Colt .45's were an interesting bunch, among others, Pete Runnels, Jerry Grote, Rusty Staub, Walter Bond, Walt Williams, Nellie Fox, Hal Brown, Eddie Kasko, Jimmy Winn , John Bateman, Ken Aspromonte , etc. In fact, that team in their primes could sweep this version of the Red Sox in a 3 game series.
  16. Unreal, cannot throw a competitive strike. The poor performances of professional continues unabated
  17. Just look at the lineup tonight including Sogard and Wong. It is a 3rd rate bunch of players. Not a competitive team. And even if Mayer was there, it would be only a marginal improvement. There are some real problems, but Cora is not the key tonight.
  18. Guerrero is a breath of fresh air. 19 pitches to get one out , and only 1 run allowed so far.
  19. Does JH realize how much money he could save over a 162 game season if he backcharged pitchers for rejecting new balls just because they don't like the seams ? Bello alone could be worth $5K-$10K a year.
  20. His absence was certainly noticeable. Maybe he was busy calling for a new ball
  21. If you give up a run per inning, how many do your guys need to score to pull out a win ? Depends on how many innings AC lets him go before pulling Brayan for inefficient pitching
  22. Story is truely helpless chasing the wide slider/sweeper. AND he refuses to recognize it. Trust me you can see the spin out of the hand from a pitcher, especially when he repeats the same pitch 3 times in one AB.
  23. Answer : Bello is a thrower, has always been a thrower and not a pitcher.
  24. Somebody help me here. Bello gets the first out on 1 pitch , then gets the second out promptly. But from there he goes 2 out single, SB, walk after multiple 3-2 pitches, rbi single on 3-2, and 3-2 for a 30 pitch first inning. How do they do it this way ?
  25. The sun will not have set by the time the game starts, so is this a day game start for Bello ? The lights will be on , however, so here's hoping Brayan thinks it is a night game and pitches masterfully to get an essential win for the Red Sox. OTOH, the batters will quickly realize they are back home at Fenway and may not hit well. Look for the #2 slot in the lineup to carry the team tonight.
