  1. So the reason for the quick outs from the ALDS in '16 and '17 were Mookie Betts failure to understand the urgency of the situation, thinking it was a 9 game series, and Farrell's failure to advise the team to get up and play like there's no tomorrow or dance like no one is watching or laugh like no one is around. Glad to get Mookie reoriented and Cora will do a better job of kicking lazy asses if they don't wake up.
  2. If Kelly or Hembree are included then either Cora or you aren't concerned about winning.
  3. Glad you said it first. Can Wright go deep , like 7 innings, probably not for 3 times through the full lineup. But the question was , who do think is most reliable in the PO's. Wright is reliable. Repeating myself, but Sale, Price, and Porcello all must reverse their career trends and pitch winning baseball in October. Efforts to date 0-11, 6.18 ERA. Not knocking their potential to win, just that they must overcome something they never have in the past done.
  4. Sure enough, Ottavio looking like (nameless RS Reliever) gives up a stolen base to a guy with more SB's than PA's this year and Baez drives him in so it's 1-1 in the 8th. Lester off the hook for breaking Cubs hearts.
  5. Looks like pitching matters in the post season. Who knew. Lester threw a tough 6 innings but is down to a sac fly. Ottovino of the Rockies could be a RS reliever with his scrambled 7th inning effort, but escaped unharmed. Can Theo and Joe's Cubs get it done with 6 outs to go? Probably so.
  6. One thing that I noticed was that the big majority of Beni's swing and misses on good pitches to hit came when his bat dipped under the ball at the point of contact (also a pop-up cause). I believe he dips his left shoulder and loops his bat below the pitch. Also it causes many of his little dribblers rolling towards the pitcher or first base. Possibly trying to get a better angle of attack to hit flyballs/HR's but didn't work. He is so much better slashing to LF.
  7. If this becomes the final set up for the ALDS roster, i'm ok with it. The playoffs are not the environment where you want to be counting on marginal pitchers like Velasquez and Johnson. That said, both made good contributions in some meaningful games during the season. Did Joe Kelly just make the team or Bobby Poyner ??
  8. Can't see Phillips nor Travis even being part of the decision. Pearce or Moreland, Swihart, Nunez, Holt and Vazquez will be the bench for the ALDS. Perhaps redesignate 1 or 2 guys for the ALCS depending on many factors. Never quite did understand the level of love for Kinsler , except for longterm frustrations with Nunez at 2nd base and Cora;s love of him there. Should have been Holt all along and Nunie at 3B when Devers was hurt.
  9. In a look at some mirror imagery, it's interesting that an 11-0 record would be an incredible sweep of the playoffs and WS. Our three primary starters career combined playoff records are 0-11, with a 6.18 ERA. It's time for those 3 to turn that record around and an 11-0 run would be just the way to do it.
  10. Great list for comparisons. Looking at both the second half and 30 day list, the standout name to me is Benintendi and his place among peers. Moreland's story is not good by any measure but I think the expectations for Beni are much higher than Morelands. Beni did carry his BA well but with rare displays of power. The two primary catchers are pitiful and should be limited to bunting. JBJr certainly climbed out of a dark deep hole over the second half and is an asset hitting #9
  11. Amen. Not so useful for tactical managing, but probably of great value to comparing talent with respect to trades, compensation, FA's etc.
  12. Go with your best to avoid the WC game. But Kershaw just pitched yesterday ??? In fact, he gave up 8 hits and 5 runs in 5 innings.
  13. It is one of the possible permutations. Unlikely, but so was 108 wins.
  14. The 4 NL teams needing to win did so by a combined score of 48-5.
  15. Another regular season gone by, with spectacular results , the best ever for the Red Sox. But now, it's game on to see what else they can do. Some pretty good performances today especially on the mound.
  16. I'm sure Pomeranz's mindset walking off the mound after pitching a good inning is "F all of you, I am good and people like me"
  17. Every NL team playing for thier respective divisions are scoring in double digits, as are the Sox. None of these teams faced any competition today, especially the one played in Fenway
  18. Matt Barnes with a good looking 12 pitch inning. My hat is off and all forgiven, Matt.
  19. Seeing Erod f*** up Gardner is worth the price of admission
  20. See it does matter ! My real point is that I don't think the guy pitching or the guy at bat in each sequence is thinking about what matters or not, and doesn't perform much differently in these type games than a serious game. I think they actually play to their ability in each specific transaction . But in any case, it is much more enjoyable to hang a 10 spot on NYY than to get swept at Fenway by lopsided scores.
  21. Rockies-Dodgers; Cubs-Brewers all currently winning through about 6 in games that count. Could be 2 single gamers for Division win vs WC slot. That's a pitching rotation wrecker.
  22. Very nice to see JDM's blast. He has been missing a few good pitches but hammered that one.
  23. Strange observation since as everyone says these games don't count. They guys are just goofing around filling out the stat lines, and on Friday they will magically flip their internal motivation switches and play like the All-Stars that they are. The theory that you play like you practice is probably discredited since Parcells said it, but there may be some truth there.
  24. No , because Houston's BP won't be replacing ours.
  25. Poyner making his point.
