  1. It's happening with some frequency last 7 games
  2. If Barret had called a legitimate strike zone tonight, it would not have affected the Red Sox who are being No Hit, but Porcello may have been able to contain the damage to only 1 or 2 runs. The 11 run inning was fun to watch but it's really only another random baseball exhibition, not indicative of what is going on.
  3. 7 run rule may get challenged soon. Rick P. is pissed, rightfully, at Barrett's B-S calls. but his reaction to pressure is to blow, not regain command.
  4. Well with Rick out there, Sandi doesn't get to catch too many pitches because several of them get redirected at the plate by hitters
  5. Giolito gets 5 K's and no hits through 3 innings. With very few pitches in the strike zone. Lots of movement on his 2 seamer.
  6. Following up on a theme from a previous game, Porcello's problems are directly attributable to Leon's pitch calling. If Sandi would call tough pitches to hit, none of this would happen.
  7. But the little phat phuque can't get off the DL
  8. No one speculates. All you get is that he feels good, whatever. I think he has got to be hurting in some way to not be scheduled for a return even if it was a week or two.
  9. He plays catch on flat ground.
  10. Giolito can't find the strike zone, Barrett can't call it right, so our guys help by swinging at pitches out of it.
  11. Not soft enough to be caught. They all look like line drives in the box score.
  12. It's not yet assured, but it starts smelling like an early BP game . Rick may get to 30 pitches here easily
  13. Cannot imagine why . Rick Porcelain cannot cope with it when the HP umpire messes with his strike zone. He is about to blow up.
  14. Yes, a turndown of a short offer is more likely, especially if the Sox make a deep playoff run or win it all. Then Craig should be at his max value. If they crash and burn, he may get discounted a little.
  15. Many don't know that William's actually pitched in one game during his career. In 1940, he threw 2 innings, gave up 3 hits, a run , a single strikeout and issued an intentional walk. He also played RF in 169 games. His OBP was so high because he had nearly as many walks 2243 , as base hits 2654. Almost half his hits (42%) were for extra bases including 71 triples. Only got HBP 39 times in 7,706 AB's. Had his highest HR total from a single pitcher with 8 off Bob Feller of the Guardians.
  16. On a historical note, today marks Ted Williams, The Kid, 100th birthday. Ted can't be with us right now but the memories of the best hitter in Red Sox history, if not MLB , go on. If Ted had the seasons that he was forced to miss by service as a Marine pilot in WW2 and then again Korea during the prime of his career , his totals may well have been the best combination of batting stats in MLB history. Was very glad to have seen him live and hitting HR's.
  17. Mookie also reclaimed the BA lead over JDM after one day out of first place.
  18. Useful if he actually makes contact with the ball . He missed a good game tonight after his 3 K's.
  19. Pom did finish quickly after the BB with a K and a DP. Good for him.
  20. The short sweep of Miami was expected but if the White Sox take 2 of 3 from NYY that is a bigger boost for us, especially since we now have to go up against those Sox. Let's get out of August with another series win, please
  21. Up 14-6, Pom starts the 9th with a 10 pitch walk. You cannot make this stuff up. Does he get a ring and a check ( rhetorical question) ?
  22. I'll give Brasier a pass on the HR. He was throwing almost exclusively FB's challenging them to hit it. One guy did.
  23. White Sox holding the lead through 7 (like they did last night)
  24. Brasier may be a flash in the pan, but pounding the zone at 98 will cause some outs, maybe a hit or two, Brasier's stats are pretty good so far
  25. Hah ! Beni makes all the outs confirming his slump status. He did give himself up when it mattered earlier in the inning. Wonder if that was his call or the dugout's ?
