Some posters have been ripping his defense, especially footwork around second base (and that was evident on at least one play), but overall he has made his fielding acceptable. 2 errors in 70 chances
Much agreed. i know he's trying to put a positive spin on it, but he would be better served to admit the team wasn't physically or mentally ready for the first 20+ games. It took playing up to their abilities to get to .500 . That's not a restart, it was a salvage job. Now go out from here at .667 and he's a genius again.
Thanks for the #'s. It might make a good comparison chart around mid-june to see who is hot and who is not over the next month, correlated to the current .500, and whatever the mid June record is.

JBJr is unique at .409 OPS as a regular . The next lowest OPS on the team is Rafael Devers at .783 . All others are above .800. Pretty notable gap.
Jackie's catch was among the best you will ever see, mostly because he went so high and still tracked the ball into his glove. He had to be in that one and only position , mid-air, well before the ball got there. It definitely was a game saving grab.
It may have been something else too. No question that Ryan Brasier gave up a game losing shot, once again, but JBJr's action saved him that embarassment and fan's heat. The catch shouldn't help Brasier's confidence because he was 6" from a blown game loss. Instead , Ryan gets credited with the win. Did he earn it or could feel good about it ? Not likely. But it may in a small way prevent him from losing all confidence. Brasier is by all observation still trending downward from his spectacular rise in 2018. So are a few other guys.
My thought is that if you want Chavis playing , which he needs to do, then keep him at second. This team still needs a regular 2Bman, and among the other three there is no clear path to success.
I do think the 108 win season, playoff victories and Ws win , followed by the soft ST work, took away any urgency or high level of motivation from this team. It doesn't matter too much whether they winn again or not except for those looking for contracts. The FO took off the winter and the players are wandering through their first 37 games
