  1. Alfaro needs a little work on the throwing
  2. This could be a very long game. Murphy's inability to get the strikes in there and well over 30 pitch inning will burn another reliever early .
  3. The younger players would do well to watch and think like Turner in the field and at bat
  4. Marginal sac fly by Duvall who is not right yet
  5. First inning shows Scott's abilities and this is not the "A" defense for Boston. They better be hitting today.
  6. I realize Sears is a LH'er but when Kike is starting and Duran is sitting , it must be a lazy Sunday in July.
  7. Yeah, it means you get to keep starting the streak thread post A-S break. Hope it does happen
  8. Walter trying to save the BP for tomorrow's game , doing a good job on it
  9. See Moon, even in a laugher there will be opportunities to point out some areas of needed improvement
  10. Walter will get to work on covering first back at WooSox soon
  11. Throwing error by Kike , now at 2B ? How can it be. Tough, off balance play
  12. Duran's race to first was overturned by a hair but it just shows again that in all sports speed is an attribute and can't be significantly coached up. You have it or you don't. Duran does have it. The Dude should always be in CF
  13. During laughers like this one, there's less tension and no need to help Cora with game decisions. Also no need to curse Bloom for his roster choices. Or castigate Kike for SS defense and pop-ups/K's at key junctures.
  14. Top 5 in lineup are OPS's from .814-.889. Duran's .320/.889 leads the way, which is an amazing statement. I'm sure he will be sought out in a trade deal but, i would keep him.
  15. Pops has one other move that he favors; DP
  16. Good AB by Wong scores the run
  17. Oakland showing us what bad defense does to the pitching and W-L results. Kotsay must be going crazy that Beane gave him a AA team
  18. I thought Duran couldn't hit LH'ers. His numbers just got better, AC
  19. Quite correct Mr. D. All you have to do is look briefly at the posts on some the Facebook type RSN groups and it is truly a sad state of ignorant fandom. I have been a RS fan for nearly 70 years , involved directly with baseball many of those , but still learn some nuances and good takes regarding baseball from the people on this site. Game Threads are for fun and it is ironic how some take it so seriously or personally. The internecine wars in the Forums between some "fans' is hilarious. Enjoy the game
  20. I like Notin's #2 as i do not see Duvall in any go forward scenario next year. I tend to agree with Bellhorn's assessment that Paxton would be a difficult move in terms of continuing to compete, but Notin's #3 could offset the loss of Paxton . I would still hold on Duran, although you need to see the proposed deal, because he has shown the ability to improve year over year and is under control for a good while. But the real reason is he has the one thing that cannot be coached significantly and that is game changing speed. His 4 double night showed that impact. Singles become doubles, including legit singles + a SB. He should be in CF where he can get to more balls in deep corners , then hope he catches them. The Sox are otherwise a notoriously slow team including Casas, Turner, Devers and Yoshida , through the middle of the lineup. Duran on base in front of them makes a run producing difference. Duran's displayed attitude or lack of trying last year set off many fans and the organization , but that seems to be in the past now. Good for him
  21. On another limb and guessing that Paxton may have some minor difficulty today and still get the W for himself and team, which can certainly use the win. He's been out of his routine with the baby arriving, and may have concerns, given the baby, over the trade rumors which include his name. Relocating by month end , away from baby and wife, could make him only want to win 8-7. Big Maple has mental fortitude but never forget he is a proven MF.
  22. The majority of that scoring of 17 runs came in single inning bursts , built around walks, dinks/dunks/bloops and poor defensive plays ... Not saying we didn't deserve some breaks but an offensive outburst it was not. A win by any means is a win and good for us. A close look at the ABs over the past two games will show that in some respects the offense is still in a mild funk. The occasional double or Duran's triple, but no HR's . Our overall run differential is +19, better than only the Angels (+14), for American league teams at .500 or better W-L record. Getting Chang in the lineup doesn't help move the line much ( appreciate the defensive upgrade), Kike is marginal, Wong is tired, and Duvall is slow to come back. Despite the pitching mess of injuries, they are winning but could use better hitting than currently showing up , especially at home. Duval in last 15 games ( since returning) he is at .154/.493 OPS with 6 rbis . And he is sitting in Saturday's published lineup.
  23. Pitching continues to help this team keep their heads up. AL East getting tighter.
