  1. It's very rare for an opt out to not be included now a days.
  2. Exactly, it was effectively two different deals.
  3. It can really be both. The extension can kick in next year or the current year. Even if it was signed after March 2025 it would have no effect on 2025 for tax purposes UNLESS the deal bought out his 2025 salary. I'm not sure if a team has ever signed a guy mid season to deal where the money went back retroactively, but for accounting purposes for LT that's the year it would effect.
  4. I 100% agree, I just don’t buy this false narrative that he’s turned off of Boston because of ownerships wallet. That’s a silly conjecture. that aside, ownership is cheap and pinches Pennie’s and we should all want that to stop.
  5. It’s also been reported he’s met with more teams than the ones reported
  6. A.) for what period of time? B.) do people seriously think this is going to influence Sasaki decision? And that’s why he isn’t signing here?
  7. I don't think it would happen but I would find it hilarious if Sasaki signed here. I think he ends up with a surprise team. Everyone is saying LAD, I think it's going to be someone like the Padres, Angels, or Mariners. Probably a west coast team.
  8. And yet a few of those teams were worse than us last year, and it's not like we've become a bottom 5 in spending. A LOW in spending in Boston was middle of the pack. I get that Sasaki probably isn't coming here but this self-deprecating speak towards our team is just starting to sound more cynical than logical.
  9. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/12/wolfe-market-size-isnt-a-factor-in-sasakis-decision.html
  10. Sasaki has specifically said that he would consider a small market team,
  11. Edit Contreras is 32, so two of those guys are ONE year younger than him
  12. Ok so they think they're not in contention because they're trading for young players and not old players? But.....they're pretty much signing all older players? Chapman/Wilson/Buehler??? FTR I don't really want them to trade for Contreras but I don't buy that they don't think they're in a contention window because they won't trade for a guy in their 30's when they're signing players older than Wilson, and the other guys they're connected too are all in their 30's as well. Bregman 31 Arenado 34 A.J. Minter 31
  13. Ok, but isn't that still a move you make when you want to contend? trading away 3 very good prospects for a pitcher you're going to shell out $$$ for? They may not be there yet, but I think the Sox think their contention window is going to start next year.
  14. Big reason why they Cardinals want to move Contreras to 1B is because they have two young catchers in Ivan Herrera and Pedro Pages
  15. If that's the case, then why trade two of your top prospects for only two years of control of a pitcher?
  16. A.J. Minter was one of the arms I listed as signing the Sox should make this offseason back in the beginning of this offseason. He's sneakily been very good and would certainly make this bullpen better.
  17. I doubt that's it, I'm sure their penny pinching has hurt them in other areas but this isn't about the money. If anything, the way they've treated Yoshida probably had more of an impact if any.
  18. Not you specifically. I think we can all assume that MVP is not John Henry.
  19. I'm not the one signing Bregman or Arenado but shiiiiiit they've been linked to Boston all darn offseason. I will say this. I'm not trading Casas just because I don't have the balls to DFA Yoshida or trade him eating all the salary. You're paying all his damn salary anyways. On this team or off of it.
  20. Or just sign Bregman and DH Devers. that lineup and infield defense is better
  21. I'm not against trading anyone for the right price, but we've seen the market for 1B. It's s***, so I don't think we are going to get anything great for Casas. Casas value is in his potential to be a middle of the order bat, which he needs to stay healthy to be able to reach. His value is probably higher to Boston than anywhere else. I don't think we are getting any real good prospects for Casas. I would love to be wrong, but I think we would all be very disappointed with the return he would bring. I'd rather bank on him coming back and mashing the baseball.
