  1. All he said was we should sign him. As did anyone with a brain. Now that translates that he predicted he would sign in Boston before it’s even official. Talk about being thirsty for validation. but yeah….8/384 right?
  2. Yankees are perhaps at the end of their window. Sox are looking to open theirs up
  3. I’d be happy if it’s not the Yankees, if it’s us then even better.
  4. I’m starting to not only thing it happens but that it’s going to break sooner rather than later
  5. I've always assume everyone has a "buy now price" and until someone reaches that they're going with the highest bidder. Everyone keeps throwing around that $700 million dollar price, maybe theres something to that, maybe that number has come out of camp Boras. I'd be comfortable going up to $640-$650 and just pointing out to Boras that is equivalent to being paid $700 million in NYC. If the Sox did a good job on selling him on the city of Boston, perhaps that is enough.
  6. I'm not sure Campbell has the arm for 3B, I don't think it's horrible there but I think they can do better. I think Kristian fitts best in 2nd on this team. I've seen him play SS, and it's not horrible.
  7. True, and I think there will be grumbling no matter what. If the Sox sign Soto, there are going to be people very unhappy with the amount of money spent who will think the Sox grossly overspent.
  8. Well yes, but it does something entirely different that helps the team in other ways. Adames is no Soto, but he's a good RHH bat who adds plus defense in the infield, which should play into their offseason plans of upgrading the pitching.
  9. I wonder how far apart they really are. That's record money and insane. They could just be trying to get the best offer possible, which may mean more money than $632 but how much more? maybe $650 moves them across the finish line.
  10. I wonder how they're truly feel about Mayer and his injury concerns. Between him and Story I think there's still some uncertainty with the position. I also wonder, if Devers does move off of 3B if they seek to fill one of the SS/3B positions internally and fill the other with Adames. How is Story's arm? I know Mayer has a strong arm but I'm not sure they'd want to move him off SS before his career even begins. It's probably not realistic that they' move Story or Mayer to 3rd and play Adames at SS. But that would make the infield defense really really really good again with Campbell at 2nd. It would help guys like Bello a lot and they'd get more out of a guy like Fried who induces a lot of groundballs I believe. He's a RHB, and I wonder if he's part of their plan B if they fail to land Soto. I'm not in love with it, but I'd like it better than a trade for Arenado (unless of course for some mind boggling reason they'd be willing to take on Yoshida).
  11. Agreed. I wonder how much net pay matters to Soto, because $632 million dollars in Boston is like having $685 million in NY. Even if we believe the offer is real, and the Sox are pivoting and getting serious (which is great) that doesn't make them a slam dunk to land Soto, it just puts them in the running. They're still competing with NYM/NYY/LAD/PHIL/TOR. I think the NY teams are much more serious, I'd place the Sox odds of landing Soto (if they're serious) at 25% I actually like those odds, I just hope they're serious if they don't land Soto and still go out and acquire pitching. If the Sox miss out on Soto, but made a real offer but ended the offseason with a couple major pitching upgrades I think fans would still be very excited for next season and happy with ownership (for a change).
  12. Good clarification, I'm with you there. I actually think the pitching depth in AAA is shaping up to look pretty good next year. What the Sox lack is high end MLB talent. They can use a handful of pitchers, in the rotation and in the bullpen.
  13. That would be fine with me. That would make Kristian arguably one of the greatest players to ever play the game
  14. Not the best comp admittedly, but rather it’s reminiscent of how quickly he took off and rose
  15. I think Campbell is more MLB ready than Mayer. Mayer needs to cut down on the chase and learn to hit lefties. It may be splitting hairs but you do that with top prospects. Campbells ascension feels very Mookie-esq. he literally went from a fringe top 30 prospect in the Sox system to a top ten prospect in all of baseball. I think Mayer needs to stay healthy, and may be more of a mid 2025 guy. But Cambell can slide in and start in 2025
  16. From what I can gather based on all the tweets and the credibility of tweeters and my own conjecture I think the offer happened; Soto signing may be premature. im wondering if Ortiz is the leak. He was talking with Soto yesterday and I’m wondering if Ortiz talked about that conversation with other people and perhaps David is convinced Soto is signing based on their conversations. When in reality Soto may be excited about Boston but he’s really considering NY as well. It ain’t over. We all know how the game of telephone goes and by the time that information slips to another person or two it turns into “omg Soto is signing here” I just wonder if NY comes in goes $700 million if Soto gives Boston’s the chance to up their offer or he just signs elsewhere and a lot of people in Boston look really dumb. if Soto cares about the total money and factors in the taxes then a $700 million dollar offer is equivalent to Boston ponying up $644. They could swoop in with $650 and secure the deal. but who knows, maybe the $625 gets them across the finish line.
  17. With the tax differences between Boston and NY, if the Sox offer is between $600-$625 then any NY offer would have to be $650-$680 to match that. Sox are in on this.
  18. If they miss out on Soto, I can see them having another lackluster offseason and deciding next year to ramp up the spending. Vladdy Jr will be a FA and there's a good top of the pitching market too
  19. Fried is probably going to get something close to what Snell got, and Burnes is going to cost you more. I'm not really bothered by the Dodgers getting Snell, like always I don't freak out over every signing. If the dust settles in the spring time and the Sox have done nothing I'll be pissed.
  20. I don’t believe that, and if I did I’d have an easier time buying it for a pitcher. Having a guy for 2 years in his prime longer is a pretty big deal. there’s a hundred different ways to skin a cat, and there’s certainly an offseason without Soto that leads to a deep 2025 playoff run. but it’s never a bad ideal going after a guy like Juan Soto.
  21. Right, so there’s a few examples of elite players here and there, still makes it rare. And yet, even in those examples said player is 28 or older, not 26. Hence, one of the reasons Soto is so different. Guys typically hit FA in the middle to the end of their primes….not at the very beginning of it.
  22. Exactly, my desire for Crochet has shifted back and forth, I think it all comes down to the return. I assumed it was too high but when I heard the WHite Sox would accept Abreu as the headliner the wheels in my mind started to spin. But if Abreu, turns into ABreu/Casas/Crawford then no thank you. Just pay Burnes/Snell/Fried at that point.
  23. Even further back, last offseason I suggested him as a potential QO, I think people were more harsh back then. It's ok....I only cried a little.
  24. And how well did that work for us when we had Chris Sale sitting on the shelf all those years? I'd rather have Woo and his 3 MORE years of control. It's also perfectly reasonable that Woo is still developing and improving. I like Crochet, and would love to have him here, but if the asking price gets high I'd pivot. He's risky, Crochets arm scares the s*** out of me.
