  1. I think they could allow Devers to either remain at 3B for 1/3 of the games or start exposing him to 1B and let Casas DH a little. There's a chance that Bregman opts out and we need a 3B next year.
  2. I don't believe anything that has happened can't be rectified. My experience as a boss is probably complete irrelevant as I pay people between 50-75k but hey maybe it's all the same. If I was the Sox brass I would sit down with Raffy and apologize to him. Let him know that he IS moving to DH (perhaps still get 40-50 games in the field) but they should of had a conversation with him earlier. Let him know that he is an important part of their organization and their team, and that they're paying him $30 million a year. Devers may not have liked moving off of third either way, but he would have done it and this only makes it worse. A sincere apology goes a long way.
  3. If someone was hired to replace an aspect of your job that you like and you had to hear about it on live TV taken by surprise how do you think you would react? Devers SHOULD move off of third if they ask, and he ultimately will. But if they've had no conversations with him about it then he has every right to be upset about that.
  4. Man how quick people are to jump down Raffy's throat, guys been nothing but good since he's been here (except his defense). I think it's obvious at this point that the media has blown this story out of proportion. Raffy is going to play where the Sox tell him too, even if he's upset he will get over it. Plenty of other good baseball players have been upset when they've been moved, moved, were fine, and everything was fine with the team. He's an adult. It really feels like Raffy was blindsided by this. As if the team had never told him he was moving off of third. Raffy should move off third, and he will. But if anyone thinks for one second he doesn't have a right to be upset that they do so without having a conversation with him and he has to find out about it during a press conference then you're just being unreasonable.
  5. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned, but I feel like we are missing something here. I’ll wait and hold judgment
  6. I think it depends on your roster. If they slide Duran to CF and plug Refsynder in left at the expense of Rafaelas bat that's fine. But at some point this year the outfield could easily be Campbell/Duran/Anthony. Then who are you taking time away from? in that scenario I don't want to bench any of those 3 guys. The odds of that happening crash this year if Bregman plays 3B. This is likely Refs last year regardless.
  7. Who is squeezing Ref and Romy out of at bats that makes this team worse? Bregman and Campbell are slated to get a lot of at bats where there were 0 last year. Those two guys are better than Ref and Romy.
  8. Bregman at 2nd does improve the defense. I think many of us just wanted him at 3rd because we thought Campbell would also be an upgrade at 2nd and Bregman would be a step up on D over Devers. not my plan A, but I still think the team is defensively better
  9. Bello had minor soreness and was shut down but apparently is already back to throwing. concerning, but on the other hand they’re probably overly cautious with guys out the gate. What could be some fatigued, and a little sorness could turn into missing 1/2 a season vs. no time at all if you ramp back up to quickly. im sure someone will go down. Someone always does every year. It happens all over baseball
  10. To bat a runner in (besides oneself) someone must be on base. Who gets on before you is 100% out of your hands. It’s blatantly obvious RBI is largely influenced by luck, or chance. that doesn’t mean there are not certain players who have a knack for performing in the clutch. I’d take OPS with RISP and two outs over RBIs any day. anyone wanna talk sample size with that now?
  11. Looming at Bregman statcast page and I noticed how low he ranks on velocity for throwing. He has a very weak arm, so his defense value at 3B is all about his range. this makes me feel a little better about his move to 2nd even if he’d be better at 3rd than Devers. I think Devers will look better there with a healthy Story along side him. If Story goes down we should have better options this year than in years past.
  12. So your starting outfield is Duran/Rafaela/Abreu and your bench is Duvall/Narvaez/Hamilton/Refsnyder. I suppose that's fine but someone is getting cut or traded when Anthony or Campbell come up. Which is fine.
  13. LOL it doesn't get me in a dither. You don't care about the facts, but then stubbornly dig your feet in on a topic that the facts go against. Then openly admit you don't care about the facts. I'm more just trying to understand this thought processes. It's pretty much saying "hey Im' probably wrong, but I don't care I'm going to argue against you anyways" Facts aren't something you "care" about that just are. If you have a discussion with someone and go against the facts it's going to cause friction. I dont' care if you're talking about building a road, a baseball team, or solving a mathematical equation. It's really not that serious, It's just an interesting take I've never seen anyone ever take before. I'm not bothered by it, in fact I think you're often spot on in here. I'm just a curious person and your position on this matter is very perplexing. I mean no insult.
  14. I have zero doubt in my mind, every person who comments in here have a very high level of love for the Boston Red Sox. with the obvious caveats aside.
  15. The streets? ok, this isn't a movie this is real life and there are facts. You can drop the $40M per now. This is not a complicated topic talking about the merits of using WAR, we are talking about a guys salary. He either is, or is not making $40 million per. No need to try and make in ambiguous. It's ok, there's no need to feel embarrassed or ashamed. The rest of us said 40 million too until we learned better. We are all in the same boat.
  16. Lets do a trivia question. I will mail a 12 pack of beer (of your choosing) to the winner. What is Alex Bregmans 2025 Gross pay?
  17. As a platoon 4th outfielder, how much better do you expect to do? I mean, an upgrade would be fine, but you'd have to cut Refsnyder I suppose.
  18. That's a very lengthy way of saying, I'm just not interested in understanding something. How can you have strong convictions about something you admittedly don't even care to understand. Like, for a fact WE KNOW Bregman will not physically be paid $40 million this year, nothing close to it, and we know the LT hit is $31.7 million? Like, what's the hang up on dropping that number? Sticking your head in the sand, knowingly and admittedly doesn't change facts. And that's fine.....but why continue to die on the same hill you admit to not knowing something about nor care to take the time to understand it?
  19. I don't really know who specifically is against it but I know the type. Unless they sign a specific player, who is always very good, and only at a specific price that said player would never sign, they will be unhappy. For example. If the Sox signed Soto to $770 million dollars it would be too much If the Sox signed Corbin Burnes to $215 million dollars it would be too much If the Sox signed Blake Snell to $187 million dollars it would be too much If the Sox signed Max Fried to $223 million dollars it would be too much If the Sox signed William Adames for $187 million dollars it would be too much. It's funny......who decides what is too much and not too much? 30 million is too much for a player but 20 million wouldn't be according to whom? Then they turn around and don't want to argue the details, like WAR, Defense, stats, potential, the Luxury Tax etc. etc. I think some people just like to complain. Lets hope they have less to complain about this year.
  20. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't really see anyone in here against the deal? I do know there are Red Sox fans who do not like it.
  21. The $40 million dollar figure is the "word out on the street" because that was the first number reported. It doesn't really represent what he's actually being paid this year. I can forgive people for not caring about the CBT, but we all love the Sox and that's why we are here to talk about them. We bring up the CBT because it matters, and while we are NOT in JH head we know precisely how these actions will affect the RED SOX according to the CBT. By talking about the CBT We know how much more they will pay in tax. We know how much they have to spend to lose draft picks. These things are known. And whether or not you or anyone wants to admit that bringing up the CBT is relevant we all share are opinions on what the Sox should do, or are doing. We've all made comments about John Henry be being cheap, wanting, or not wanting to do something. We've all assumed to be in John Henrys head a time or two. You might not care about it, but the CBT is very relevant and it's something I don't think we can ignore if we want to have a spirited, intellectual debate about the Red Sox. It's too large to ignore.
  22. I bet Bregman doesn't put up more HR's than O'Neil did last year. But I'd also be willing to bet O'Neil doesn't either
  23. We are talking about what the team is paying people. Contracts. Didn't mean to double post. My internet sux
