Our infield is literally. AAAA guy, a guy who has fallen off a cliff, AAA guy and an AAAA guy. Devers at 1B and calling up Mayer would solve a whole lot.

Back in April I put the over/under on an Anthony promotion at may 28th....I think. Anthony strikes me as the type of guy who is going to catch on quick.

At this time of year no one is selling yet, he had one and he went down for injury. Most G.M.s in this position would ask their Raffy Devers equivalent to move. As I said earlier I'm not going to berate him, people are who they are and he certainly makes up with it with the bat. Buts' it's disappointing, I think If Devers truly understood the nature of things and wanted him and his team mates to win he'd give 1B a shot. But I just don't think Devers is very interested, he's kind of just a let me get up go to work and I'll do my job leave me alone kind of guy.

Does Cora really not want Raffy at 1B? If Devers was open and willing to move to 1B would Alex Cora be against that? I don't think he would have a problem with it. Also the whole "brez do his job" well he did his job, Sox had a young player regarded with a lot of potential in Casas but he got hurt. Most teams in Brez's position would either call next man up (Toro), trade for a guy, or move someone on the roster to 1B. Can he really trade for a guy? we seem to go through this EVERY YEAR, not me and you just the fanbase in general, but we always want trades to happen in May and they just almost never do. Most teams are still trying to figure out if they're buyers or sellers and will likely wait until July to do so. I'm not really sure what more Brez could do other than grossly overpay for someone, and even then who knows what is out there.

No he's not, I'm sure if the Sox could predict the future they would have traded him and moved Devers to 1B. He might of put up the same stink but I think he'd do it and make the adjustment and settle in like he did at DH.

Yeah but that's just the thing, they have him under control until his age 30 season, or thru his age 29. As good as he is, is he going to age into his 30's? I just don't see any real value in extending, the Sox already have him for another 4.5 years. Sometimes I think you just take the team control. I'd rather roll the dice on guys like Campbell.

Well Casas is (or at least was) their long term plan at 1B. He went down this year. No MLB team has a good player in AAA ready to take over, unless that guy is a prospect working his way up. THey have Toros' like us. Usually teams have a guy veteran who is willing to slide into 1B.

No, that would be fine, but why would Wilyer ever sign that when guys next to him like Rafaela and Campbell are getting much more?

I'm not sold on an Abreu extension. Abreu is hitting .227 with a .664 OPS vs. lefties this year. 0 HR and 2 RBI's and his career line is even worse than that. To be fair the Sox give him very little exposure to lefties, only 103 career at bats. I like Wilyer, I'm happy with him as a player and wouldn't even hate if they gave him a chance to hit lefties (although I do have my doubts if he ever will). But there's no need to extend him. He will be 30 years old when he plays his first season out of team control. The Sox control Abreu throughout his 20's. Also a lot of his value comes in his defense, which is great, but that's not rewarded the same way that home runs and SLG % and he will probably always live in that 450-500 at bat range max the way they use him. That's not a guy who is going to kill you in arbitration. Again I like Wilyer, and just because I don't think he should be extended doesn't mean I don't see him on this team. I just don't think there's a real big risk in not having him in Boston 2030 and beyond.

Story isn’t good on D at all this year. He does not look as good at SS as he has in the past.

I disagree, I think Raffy could make an excellent 1b if he wanted to. I’m not going to castrate him for not wanting to move like others but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. The team would be better with Toro and/or Romney out and Anthony in. And the path of least resistance could have been Raffy to 1B where most thought he would end up before last year.

Anthony is the #1 prospect in all of baseball with well over 250 at bats in AAA. people in his stratosphere are typically never on the “when he’s a good option” plan but rather break their way into the majors one way or another. I get that it’s probably going to be a few more weeks at the very least to see what shakes up, and the MLB roster may open up a spot for Mayer first but there’s zero reason to keep Anthony down. He has very little to learn at that level and should be in the bigs

I don’t know what they’re going to do. It would be easier if Raffy would move to 1B, but if history is any precedent Anthony has to come up soon. if you look at the history of top ranked prospects (1-5) performing in AAA Anthony is already approaching the top half of the list of guys who have been held in AAA the longest.

I was looking at this earlier and was going to save it for later. 1/4 of all of Mayers errors were literally his first handful of games as an 18 year old in the FCL. I feel disgusting even talking about fielding percentage. also comparing him to the best prospect in all of baseball is completely unfair. Not sure what Anthony having higher offensive potential means about Mayers defense and the prospect of moving to 1B. I have to give credit for the unique takes we see here.

I wonder though, is Campbell at 1b because he is going to move there? or is he going to be able to back up there? I still don't believe Campbell is their plan A right now. Mayer, with a good stat line, is in the midst of his first funk but he did draw 3 walks last night. Mayer may or may not be ready, but he's very close. Anthony looks ready, and Mayer is literally just a half a step behind. It may be a little bittersweet because Campbell is going through a funk so perhaps some aren't as excited about more Rookies on the cusp of beginning their big league Journey but this is a pretty cool time. I think it would be pretty awesome if those three just feeded off each others energy. Get them on the same roster!!!!

Story's defense has taken a big step backwards this year. The only thing he does positive is run the bases well. Mayer should be at SS sooner or later and I suspect the Sox will do just that.

Time to sweep the Orioles, get a few games above .500 and help turn Baltimore into sellers

The Boston Red Sox will never permanently move Mayer to 1B. The odds of them doing it for this year is .05% the odds of them making him the long term fixture there is 0%

Well I stated my preference (after Devers) of going out and acquiring a better player than all those guys.

Semantics man, come on. Casas was the starting 1B, he got off to a slow start. We could talk all day about what he was, could be, should be, won't be etc etc but the fact is he WAS the starting 1B and Toro was your AAA depth.

If only those two dudes could switch positions.
