If he's not willingly moving over to 1B in SF then the same EXACT thing is going to happen to him there. There DH spot is clogged up, Flores certainly does not have 1B locked down and the DH is going to get more clogged when Chapman comes back. I like Devers, I really do, but I'm going to chuckle if they want him at 1B and he doesn't like that.

If he's willing to play 1B, just not in Boston that's a bad look. He's the highest paid $300 million dollar man who can't put a personal quivel behind him for the best interest of the team? Even if it's true that the situation could have been handled differently there's not way that's not a good look. He's definitely saying, I had no problem playing 1B I just didn't want to do it because of the way they asked me in Boston. He put his quarrels with the FO above the team.

That's the part that really gets me the most, the fact that he is probably going to end up playing 1B in SF at some point.

I could be convinced to appropriate more blame to the F.O. but I just can't assign them (putting Breslow into the F.O. discussion) more than Devers. We can hypothetically speculate all day if things could have been different if the conversation was different but we don't nor will we ever live in that world. Many players in Raffy's position would make that move, he's even saying he would play 1B in SF. In the end, I can appreciate as a business owner having a philosophical difference between how I WANT to run a company vs. a set of parameters set by the other guy. Breslow does not have to abide by the promises made by his predecessor, and if Devers has a problem with that then it's on Bloom OR ownership. If you got a new boss tomorrow, you can't expect him to uphold promises the other guy made if he's asking you to do something that's within the scope of his power. Breslow is the head guy, he came in and tried to make the team better. I can appreciate as a business owner that when certain situations arise, sometimes the best thing to do is part ways. I think this is what happened, I think John Henry told Devers in KC that they were going to look to trade him. It may have even been a very friendly conversation "hey we love you, but if we must part ways then we will trade you to a good team, just keep your mouth shut, play your heart out and we will send you off to a contender"

Great win, Giolito looked great. One thing I noticed looking at Giolito is he's either been really really good, or awful in all of his starts. He has 3 starts this year. May 5th 3.2 innings pitched 6 runs May 17th 4 IP 6 runs June 4th 1.2 IP 7 runs He also gave up 3 runs in his first start, all other starts he has given up 0-1 run. I know i know i know, I'm cherry picking, and everyone looks better if you take out their worse 3 starts, but the pendulum really seems to swing with him. He's either awful, but when he's on he's really really good.

How do you think we get those guys off our books? You're either eating all the money, or sending a guy with the level of value of Duran. Which is not realistic. You probably split the difference and send them a prospect package like Franklin Aria, Jhostynxnon Garcia +15-30 million. That's assuming you can find a team that is still willing to take on a lot of money, and is willing to do so, and likes that prospect package. Same can be said of Yoshida. This I'm not sure how selling off our young assets to clear money out helps us after getting rid of Devers. It kind of just clears us out and sets us up to make a run in 3-4 years from now instead of in the present. It also seems pretty irresponsible to get rid of a lot of top prospects to clear out money when we can reset the luxury tax next year, and all those guys would be off the books by the time that 2-3 year reset window comes back around.

What is market level? one could argue it's exactly what a guy is getting paid in free agency. We see time and time again the top elite level bats out earning these "models" Anyone who thinks the Sox can go out and replace Devers level of production by paying a guy $29 million a year is lying to themselves. Outside of luck, that ain't happening. Not saying they didn't have to trade him, obviously the relationship went south and there's blame pie to go around and there's a lot we don't know yet that I'd like to know so I'm not going down that rabbit hole with people yet. But while the $30 million extra a year does hold significant value to the Sox, in a vacuum that money alone isn't going to replace him.

Yeah, but like what is he stalking? This isn't like a facebook profile or an instagram. What function does clicking on anyones profile here serve even if they were a "stalker"??? At best they're looking for a post to respond too, so...so what? you're proving they're looking to engage you in conversation? What is that proving when you're doing the same thing. You're in here entertaining a conversation with him back and forth. It just seems like you're making something out of nothing.

I'm not disagreeing with that, I'd figure that to be the case, but BTV isn't exactly an exact science. There's probably teams out there who value Abreu more than the value Duran. We don't really know how other teams view our guys, and a lot of the teams who might pay the steepest price are not in buyers mode yet.

It's not like Duran is much better at hitting lefties. He has a .634 OPS vs. them this year. Whoever is traded for them is opening up a roster spot for Anthony, and who remains likely forfeits at bats vs. lefties anyways. Or at least should be. Sox may trade who brings back the better return.

Taking 2 out of 3 from NY and then Tampa was just what this team needed. And just what I needed to get me to come down from the ledge. We need Bregman back, and hopefully that comes to fruition soon. I think the hitting could eventually work itself out and I can see the talent ripe at the right time going into October. But what this team will really need then is a Catcher and a starting pitcher. Narvy is great, but Wong just ain't it. We need someone else to share the workload with Narvaez, at the rate he's being used he's going to burn out. I wouldn't hate a 1B either, but I'm not breaking the bank for one.

I think Raffy should have agreed to move to first base, I think if he was more of a team player he would have. I have rationalized that's more of a personality thing than him not caring about the team and perhaps saying he's not as much of a team player as I'd like him to be is unfair. He is who he is and at the end of the day he is mashing. He's mashing right where they asked him to go, so he's not hurting the team by any means. That's good enough. I still wish we lived in an alternate universe where Raffy would have been willing to pick up a 1B glove, but I have accepted reality and I am ready to move on. I propose we put the Raffy to 1B thing to bed

What a great win last night. Giolito did get by with some loud outs that last inning, but we've been on the other end of some bad luck so much this season I'll take it. Gio still goes 6. Story looks like he's been reborn as a guy who can actually play baseball. Anthony, the ROOOK wins the game on both sides of the ball. To top it all off the Pen looked great. We just took 2/3 from NY, and have an opportunity to take a series against what was one of MLB's hottest teams coming in. I was approaching giving up on the season, wasn't there but we had our foot on the gas. A win tonight and a good series in NY could totally give this season a 360. Storys recent success is a very small SSS. But 4 straight games with multiple hits is highly encouraging, and it's making the sting of Bregman going down minimal.

Look, the Raffy to 1B ship has obviously sailed but I would like to critique this to some degree. Most 1B in MLB would be below average to just awful fielders at other positions. There's a reason why most players move to 1B in the first place. So again again, the ship has sailed, but in an alternate universe where Raffy wanted to play 1st and jumped with joy when the opportunity presented itself, he might easily become an average to better defensive 1B.

Before Bregman got hurt my optimal lineup was DH Roman Anthony 1B Devers 2nd Campbell SS Story 3B Bregman LF DUran CF Rafaela RF Abreu Now, Anthony would still get 2/3 of his time in the outfield and rotate the DH. You could do the same thing now with Mayer at 3B when Abreu comes back. This. will obviously not happen

There's essentially very little difference between option 1 and option 2. I would trade whoever is going to give the team the biggest return. Flip assets for starting pitching. We need another starter, and it would be optimal to pick up someone under control for next year as well. And you can do that while making room for Anthony/Rafaela/(Abreu or Duran)
