  1. Yeah....that's a logical comparison. lol
  2. People always complain about the Sox not "splurging" yet can never reconcile those complaints with them being top spenders. Every. Single. Year. And how many rings does John Henry have compared to his counterparts during his tenure as owner of the Sox? I'll wait. EDIT: this is not a defense of anyone or anything or any particular move. It's just a reminder to look at the big picture.
  3. I think they'd have to work the trade market this offseason, and they should have the ammunition to do it. Especially if they become sellers and trade guys like Eovaldi and JD.
  4. Trades like that are almost impossible to value because you only had Mookie for one more year, everything he's doing now is OFF of his cost-controlled years. Now I get the rebuttal there is "well we could have resigned him". Well, maybe but it's more probable than not that they wouldn't. Still, the money that gets spent elsewhere is almost impossible to quantify. You could tie in Mookie money to almost any transaction going forward for the next few years.
  5. If the last decade has taught us anything it's how quickly you can turn an organization around. The Sox have the money, and the system to do so. I have zero problem with them selling off assets that are of the expiring contract kind. Yes, they will get a bunch of shiny prospects that many hate because they're just prospects. But remember, you don't have to develop every single one and live with their adjustment periods at the MLB level, you can trade them for MLB capable players. With the money coming off the books this year, I fully expect the Red Sox to rebuild this team this offseason. Next year, this will truly be Blooms team.
  6. I've never been one to get all hot and bothered and judge things in a vacuum. People who blame for this teams woes, where were they when this team was 2 games away from a world series last year? The team is with it's flaws, and is largely underperforming (last year they overperformed). I think a lot of the finger-pointing at Bloom and calling him a bad G.M. is extremely short-sighted but I will say this, he lost the Renfroe/JBJ trade. And that's ok, no one is going to win every trade. One of my reasonings for justifying the trade was the fact that Renfroe had a career year last year.......well......he's having an even better year this year. Yes, these prospects could amount to something and turn the tables and you can't judge a G.M. by one trade but as of right now it's looking like bad move.
  7. No, they moved it up I believe last year.
  8. Projected by who? the experts?
  9. I don't think this is true, or fair. He's a business man, and a better product leads to better revenue. The larger scheme of things suggests the Sox are fine. Ever since the "CURSE" was broken the Sox have done just fine in reinventing themselves. How many times have we taken a step back for a year or two only to come roaring back to a WS title? 2007 maybe, but certainly in 2013 and 2018...So it's settled. 2023 is our year. As a matter of fact, the more we suck the rest of the way the more convinced I am. Kidding, kinda not really.
  10. No, they just depress me less. Kind of like driving in s***** snow in the winter....I don't enjoy it but I get a kick out of everyone who hates their life because of it. All those smashed guard rails and spinning tires.
  11. For losing Eduardo Rodriguez.
  12. The Sox level of play, plus his own injuries have probably pushed back the arrival of one named Casas in Boston. Mine as well let him eclipse the service time next year, show up more ready, and get that extra draft pick for finishing atop the ROY voting.
  13. You are not wrong, but my remote is safe. Weirder things have happened in baseball.
  14. I think we should be cautious sellers, however. I don't think we should be in the business of trading away guys like Bogaerts and Devers, and if you do trade one of those guys away it's because you know there's no way you're signing both and you make a huge effort to sign the other. E.G. you resign Devers and trade Bogaerts moving Story to SS next year. But, my focus would be on moving assets such as J.D. Martinez and Nathan Eovaldi. Both these guys are gone at the end of the season anyway and you would get a premium for both these players right now. Martinez is down with his power a bit this year but he's still a premium bat with a history of hitting in the postseason. Teams overpay for that. Nathan Eovaldi is pitching like a good middle rotation guy, not an ace but teams will still pay a premium for that to shore up their rotation to get them to the postseason, also he has a history of performing well in the post season too. Those two players are guys who likely did not factor into our long term plans but would add good assets to the farm for next year. Next year you come in with Casas at 1st, at least one of Bogaerts/Devers (maybe both) and hopefully Bloom feels comfortable enough with the farm being deep enough to unload a few assets to upgrade the roster. Core is still in place, or at the very least not any worse off than it's now.
  15. If there’s one silver lining in falling apart, it’s seeing who cracks and acts like a baby first. These are the fans who go through TVs faster than the rest of us, the ones who can’t control their emotions and throw their remotes against the walls. Relax buttercups, there’s still plenty of baseball left to play.
  16. I'd have Romero 9th, Roman 16th, and Coffey 19th.
  17. Inherently this is a great comment, philosophically you're spot on. But Klaw has been historically lower on Sox prospects over everyone else, every time....all the time. At some point that can't be a coincidence.
  18. Lets also remember that sometimes teams draft guys who will take less money so they can draft better talent in the later rounds. Nobody projected Yorke as first-round pick but it gave them the money to sign Blaze Jordan. in hindsight, not only did they get a good prospect in Jordan but it looks like Yorke was well justified in that slot. The Sox internal board is better than what you read on MLB.com/FG/PG/BA. It just is, outside the top 10-15, they're meaningless. In the end, the only real true test to how good this draft is will be time, but if track record means anything, then this draft should have you feeling pretty excited.
  19. after the first 15 picks or so national rankings are absolute garbage. Yorke was ranked 139th, would probably be a top 5-10 pick if we had a 2020 redraft today. Romero was climbing the draft boards and the Sox knew other teams were going to take him before their next pick at 41. Coffee was another kid whose stock was rising and Roman Anthony had national rankings higher than his slot value. Personally, I love the higher risk higher reward profile of taking younger guys. The Sox seem to be above average at identifying and developing young talent on the offensive side of the ball, so to me....I trust their rankings better than the national rankings only talk to other scouts who weigh in teams' rankings who can't draft ball boy.
  20. Klaw is, has been, and seemingly always will be low on the soxprospects. He (mostly) always has their guys ranked lower, and is a known lifelong Yankees fan. He's still great, with good perspective, and mostly fair, but there is a bias there.
  21. Bleacher report might be the single worse source out there. I could write for Bleacherreport.
  22. What I want to know is where does the money come from? if they decide to sign him does it come out of next years pool? I'd be willing to be soxprospects addresses this, either in an article or the next podcast, but I'm too lazy to go through all the threads and see or to google it. Maybe I'll have the motivation to do so later haha.
  23. And they lose the 5% overage too, BUT if they were anticipating having to go well above slot for one of these guys anyways then hypothetically they still have a few hundred thousand to throw elsewhere. I'm intrigued by this "draft and follow" which apparently allows you to give a guy a bonus larger than 150K and not count against the pool and sign them up until a week before next years draft. I guess it was an old rule that came back under the new CBA.

  25. Allegedly he's signed, so I guess that shows what we know!!! I do want to be careful here, I saw this posted on soxprospects and have no ideal how reliable the article is. I know players get drafted and talk like they're ready to sign all the time and then when the two sides are too far apart on bonus demands everything falls apart. A prime example of this was JUD FABIAN, however, according to this source it's a done deal. If we sign all top 10, I'm loving this draft.
