    Ok how about this. If an outfielder goes down, I’d rather have Yoshida slide into an everyday DH role than Eaton, but as a bench player Eaton is a better choice with more versatility.

    Well yeah, like if Duran goes down Yoshida because your DH. I don't think this is an apples to apples comparision because you can slide Yoshida into that everyday role while Eaton is a utility guy who is a better fit for that role and thus this roster.

    Eaton is right handed, he's capable of playing multiple positions, and he has plus speed. If we were comparing them as DH's I could see liking Yoshida but someone like Eaton is 10000% a better fit for this roster.

    That's a good point, but who comes out of the lineup? I suppose you could go back to someone like ABreu being a platoon guy, or platooning him and Duran but all three of those guys are lefties?

    I'd prefer B over and over again. I'll take the lottery ticket, it's more than we could probably ask for for him. But, I think you're right in that John Henry would take option A. So the more I think about it, I'm not sure what real advantage there is to the fans in trading Yoshida.

    Question. What would we prefer. A.) a team that will eat 50-75% of his contract with no real return. or B.) Sox eat the entirety of his contract but receive a two prospect return. Say equivalent of John Holobetz and Sadbiel Dezline

    He was ranked, he was considered to have more upside when he was younger. He never grew and doesn't appear to be very projectable. But yeah, some lists just move slower than others....for better or worse.

    I don't think prospect rankings are that dense. Sometimes when a guy has a reputation but doesn't liveup to them......some people are slower than others to sour on them. Rodriguez was a very highly regarded international prospect who received a $1.5 million dollar bonus. But as he's grown his tools have not so much. He appears to be a bust.

    This time of year, there's plenty of guys still in camp the team brought in knowing they didn't have any real shot of making it but "we need body guys" they need bodies.

    #1 AAA/AAAA guys #2 it's spring training #3 it's spring training #4 it's like really really really early in spring training. I was wondering when we were going to get the first complaint in spring training. Admittedly I haven't been around much the last couple weeks so maybe someone else has stolen the award.

    I remmeber at the time some people were still so enamored with DD and thought he could do no wrong defended him and critisized the Sox for not Protecting Song. It would certainly be a GREAT Story to see this could become a big leaguer and a valuable piece in a bullpen someday. Even if it's not here but it would be pretty awesome if it was and he becomes a closer and closes out game 7 of the world series vs. the Phillies.....Ok I'm getting a little too ahead of myself here.

    Absolutely, they certainly elude that some of these guys could have higher ceilings than their projections indicate if everything breaks right. When they give someone like Tolle a 5-6.5 range I believe they feel there is a very high probability he falls into that range. Now, I'm making up percentages here but maybe theres a 5-10% chance there is more. It's obviously easier to dream on what a guy can be if he lives in that 5% when he has an elite tool.....like a 99 MPH fastball.

    Also might I add that SP doesn’t have a TOTR projection for any of the pitching prospects.

    I think the Sox offense will be better than people think. They have several guys on the roster who have hit 30+ home runs; thought I wouldn’t bet on Story and Contreras doing it again. But I bet those guys are going to hit 20+ and as a matter of fact, if you redid the threshold to 20 almost the entire lineup looks ready to do so, minus maybe Durbin and Narvaez, though Narvy did hit 15 in his rookie season. There are several younger players with plus to plus plus raw power who very well may have that 20-30 power as well. we also haven’t seen the effect of the new ABS system which is said to be pro batter. This team will have 20+ power and tons of doubles power. With more hitters walking and getting on base. They will keep the chains moving. if someone like Roman Anthony takes a major step forward we could even border elite.

    I doubt that, the last 3 years Duran has been a 2.5 6.8 3.9 FWar guy Someone is going to pay him, and it's going to be his only payday. I don't think he's going to get a huge contract......but he's worth a lot more than just some guy who accepts the Q.O. All of this is contingent on how he plays over the next 2 years.

    Duran is the perfect candidate to let play out his team control years and then take the draft pick when he walks. I think he's a great player, and enjoy watching him play, but he's controlled to 31 with his main skill set one that typically doesn't age well. Take the two years and tip your cap to him when he gets paid.

    And at that point you're not really saving on payroll at all. Mine as well hold onto him thru camp at a minimum. I do think a day comes where he is either traded or just DFA'd.

    But why would a team trade away a good bat during spring training? any team that's looking to compete isn't going to trade away a legit MLB piece like that and teams are pretty set heading into camp. It ain't happening....this is our team for the next few months.

    BTV accepts taking on Yoshidas contract if the Sox also throw in first round draft pick #4 ranked Kyson Witherspoon and #9 ranked Marcus Phillips in exchange for taking on Yoshidas contract. We mine as well hold onto to him in case someone gets hurt in camp.
