  1. The Sox certainly do seem to be doubling down on the guys coming off TJ. The following is a little bit of hyperbole on my part, but maybe the Sox think since almost everyone is getting TJ at some point nowadays maybe signing all the guys coming off of it will lead to the maximum amount of time inbtween their next surgery
  2. https://pitcherlist.com/johan-oviedo-is-showing-signs-of-life/
  3. Guzman may turn out to be an underrated guy in this trade, or not. But he certainly helps build up depth in the catching ranks for a system that has literally almost no catching depth.
  4. Teams that can draft, scout, develop, and target pitchers well can take talented arms that haven't had success yet and turn them into really good players. The Sox have not been that team for a long time, but they did better last year and we can see the improvements on the farm. We know this is the ambition and the goal of one Craig Breslow who isn't just the POBO but also a former pitcher. I'm going to let the man cook, and see what these kids can do before I go off and judge them and base my opinions on them from what their ERA was last year.
  5. True, but he's not on our team.
  6. For me, the only real worry about Gray is his age, and he's the type of pitcher who ages well because he doesn't rely on velocity. He could easily put up 4-5 WAR this year I yearn for more, but people have been underestimating this move.
  7. If we used a multi year scale, only 13 pitchers in all of baseball have put up a 10+ War the past 3 season combined. One of them is named Sonny Gray
  8. I don't disagree that Kelly is really good, but my position on what consitutes a #1 has shifted the last year. If we got by 1-30 in FWar for a #1 and 31-60 for a #2 so on and so forth, we get bottom of the barrel pitchers before we get to what a "#4 starter" should be. Think of it this way, only 52 pitchers even qualified last year. Only 38 of those guys had a WAR above 2.0 I think what us fans consider a #1 pitcher isn't something there are 30 of, but rather maybe 10 any given season.
  9. No, but unlike Ragans you're not counting on any of those guys to be your #1-#3. Sandoval, Crawford, Dobbins, Harrison....those are all guys in your #4 or #5 spot. Sandoval at #5 if they actually traded for Ragans and kept Bello.
  10. I don't think that's necessarily true. Whitlock looked pretty darn good as a starter before he got hurt, if he worked out as a starter he would have been 1000% more valuable. He had an injury before and missed time, this is why he was available for the taking from the NYY. The Sox were right to try, his case is not all to different that another Red Sox pitcher who moved into the reliever role after an injury and his team decided to move him back into the rotation despite concerns. His name Is Garrett Crochet. If the White Sox went that route, he wouldn't be an ACE right now and probably wouldn't even be on our team.
  11. Ragans history concerns me as well, but value isn't built by solely what you did last season.
  12. I like that actually, sure we don't have a 40 HR guy but we have an entire lineup that could put up 20+ not saying they would all do that in one year. But lets' say the went out and signed Bregman/Okamoto Mayer/Okamoto/Bregman/Story/Duran/Rafeala/Anthony/Abreu. Those are all guys who have enough pop in their bats to attack mistakes, Story and Bregman are two guys who can put up 25+ in a full season and we still have yet to see what a full season of Roman Anthony does. If we add one of Bregman/Bichette/Alonso plus Okamoto to this lineup, that's a pretty good lineup.
  13. I would love an Okamoto signing if there was a larger signing too e.g. Alonso, Bregman, Bichete
  14. Crap....I like him even more now. I thought I read he plays both 3B and 1B well too. So he kind of leaves to door open for a Bregman reunion or an Alonso addition as well.
  15. You're probably right on the committment. I'm not sure about the K's though, theres a much much longer list of guys who never made it to the bigs because they couldn't get their K rate down than there are K's who made it to the MLB and then brought their K rate down.
  16. I'd say the going rate for 2 WAR is more like $15 million, that might go up to $18 million this year. Still, that might be a baseline for Bogaerts, who is in a serious decline, so is he going to put up 2 WAR at least every year? he's under contract for EIGHT MORE YEARS! he could easily be a negative WAR player for the majority of that. I wanted to Bogaerts to stay.....but that ship has long sailed away.
  17. ADD: High risk Kyle Schwarber is effectively Bobby Dalbec. All the power in the world won't help you if you can't hit enough to tap into it.
  18. The more I think about it, the more I think I really like Okamoto. I don't think he's going to cost a lot either. If he can be had on two years I'd bite.
  19. I'm not even sure I want him if they eat half the money. Bogaerts will be 34 next year coming off a 2.o WAR compaign. How much war does he have left in his career 8-10? maybe. He's already declining, and guys hit the wall between 30-35. He's already hit the wall so he will probably be a negative WAR player in about 1-3 years. Per my last comment that I"m guessing you just liked as I got a notification as I'm writing this, there's room for this to be two teams worse contracts. . ADD: that was a different thread. But you did like it! lol
  20. Bogaerts is staying, and as much as I loved him, he's going to go down in history as one of the worse contracts in history. If we took him back and SD ate half his money it would be the worse contract in our history. It's literally so far in the red there's room for him to be two teams worse contracts ever.
  21. Is SD willing to DFA 3 guys to make room on their 40 man? So its not just how valuable Campbell/Abreu/Bello/Romero are, it's how much more valuable they are than those guys as well. This is often the problem with 4-1 deals in which every player has to be added to a 40 man.
  22. Murakami's K rate the last several years. 2025 27% 2024 29.5% 2023 28% Lets keep in mind that players who come over from Japan often see an increase in their strike out rate. MLB has higher quality pitchers. Someone is going to overpay him because he's young and has power, Murakami should scare the s*** out of any Boston fan.
  23. lol Murakami is a strike out king, in a league that preaches contact. He would be Bobby Dalbec 2.0 here. Probably worse.
  24. That's funny, I couldn't quite put a name on that lineup but sounds about right.
  25. I don't really care enough to dig deep and look this up at the moment, but I'm fairly certain that his recovery just took a little longer than expected, he wasnt' injured again.
