  1. I’ve ALWAYS placed greater weight on Baseball America and fangraphs than pipeline and law. For the Sox system I place more trust in Soxprospects. Still worse case scenario, the Sox system jumped ahead of half the league.
  2. It’s, but it’s just another prime example of why average isn’t everything, especially in a small sample size. Anthony hit .228 in Salem, Salem is a known pitchers ballpark, big time, as is the Carolina league at whole. But the batter ball data showed he was hitting the ball so he got promoted and actually started getting better results against better pitching. Fun fact, at the same age, Rafael Devers only hit 11 home runs in Salem in a full season and he has plus plus raw power. People just don’t hit home runs there. Same thing happened this year with Duran. He was hitting .195 down in Portland but the batted ball data looked good. Sox promoted him despite and the rest is history…..or at least his 2023 campaign. Recent reports are saying Romans defense looks good as well, and if his defensive tools take a tip upward and this is confirmed industry wide he could become a top 10 prospect consensus wide. He might even challenge Mayer for #1 in the Sox system.
  3. The fact that the prospects DD gave away didn’t pan out also means that that high bust rate meant Sox were heading for tough times regardless. It’s not just who you have in your systems and trade away. It’s who you don’t get in. You’re picking lower in the draft and losing draft picks when you’re operating above the luxury tax line and signing high value free agents. Living in that world we never would have a Roman Anthony in our system. For example
  4. I think it wouldn’t be fair to use that sample size. They don’t all bust like that. There are actual stats and measures to these things. We can write a whole book on it. Higher ranked prospects bust, but on average produce much higher wars correlated with their ranking. A top 100 guy is more likely to be a MLB player, top 50 even more so, top 25…so on and so forth. Just because it’s an imperfect science doesn’t mean it’s a complete crapshoot and there’s no meaning between #30 and #1. Those rankings are pretty good and a lot goes into them. At least over at BA and others.
  5. Ba and frangraphs at top 5. No one likes having a top ranked farm for the sake of it. You like it because it means future stars. More of a chance you have the next Devers, Betts, Bogaerts in there. Casas and Bello looking strong. No add to that and get a few free agents and we are back in the game
  6. I think a lot of people got fixated on his organizational philosophy and what he wanted to build. I agreed with it and still do, but it was blatantly obvious he failed to have the execution at the big league level to put together a strong ball club. With me it’s not what Bloom did, it’s what he didn’t do. I suppose that’s semantics
  7. It's also a very LAD thing to do. Heck if you're a big market team and you get less draft picks then you need to hit on them more if you want a strong farm. Making scouting ever more important in my opinion.
  8. Emptied the farm isn't anagolous with... There are no prospects in this system and if one becomes a good mlb player that actually means the farm wasn't emptied. What if we had twice the amount of young stars on this team right now? probably doesn't happen because a lot of guys we did trade away were busts but that's precisely the type of thing that if it does happen turns you into Atlanta.
  9. Why? been there done that, that's 2019 news. It doesn't matter why Dave was fired, why Dave was fired has little to do with 2023 and what the Sox want or think Bloom can do.
  10. I disagree, more and more and more teams are spending money. We have slipped in spending not because we are spending less but because everyone else is spending more. When you take into consideration the amount of money flowing into baseball, the Red Sox, and how much it pays to win, Henry can justify spending $260 million if he wanted to. I think that last 4 years is conditioning us to accept less. Look at the Sox WS years, we spent a lot more than everyone or mostly everyone else that year. We need pitching, there's plenty of it available and we need 2-3 guys. We aren't trading away the farm to build a rotation, and there's plenty of risk in middling guys as well.
  11. I'm sure there's more fish in the sea than the "rays guys" I find it very encouraging the beefed up their scouting departments.
  12. Isn't that kind of saying the same thing?
  13. BOLD prediction, he's gone this offseason.
  14. Maybe, just maybe, that's why Bloom was fired. He would likely never be able to outbid the other GM's for those pitchers.
  15. I would say he already is the backup 1B. If Casas went down long term, Bobby would get a look.
  16. Sox need a couple big moves that could easily propel them into being a WS contender. Yes, this assumes some forward progress and growth by guys already on the roster, but that may be reasonable with the likes of Casas, Duran, Yoshida, Rafeala etc etc. They need two big-time starting pitchers, or at least 1 ace and a good mid-rotation starter. They need a big RHB. They can get 2/3 of these easily in free agency if they are willing to spend. With the firing of Bloom we can be optimistic here but it's certainly uncertain if that's the direction they take. The big RHB is not as clear. There's nothing in FA, and one could argue if Rafeala can hit, Story is finally healthy and they resign Duval that they may be ok there. But they can't bank on that happening. Still, if all they did was resign Duval but then went out and got two legit pitchers to add to the rotation E.G. SNell + Yama I would be happy and very optimistic for the 2024 season.
  17. https://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/id/28039095 The Soxprospects have an amazing breakdown of the Bloom firing. There are some things in here that I was unaware of that actually have me very optimistic of the future and that I did not know Bloom had been overseeing. Over the past several years under Bloom the Sox have vastly ramped up the amount of money they spend on amateur scouting and increased the number of scouts they have as well. This was the jist of it. These are the types of moves that build long-term success, that help a sustainable winning franchise but don't bear immediate fruit. Bloom did a piss poor job of building the MLB roster, but he apparently did do some great things for this organization top to bottom. Frankly, I'm a little ired that this wasn't the case before hand. We are Boston, we should be spending heavily there compared to most other teams anyways.
  18. You know......I thought that might be the case. Have you been drinking out at sea? I mean, it's Friday and almost 5 o'clock somewhere.
  19. I'm the type of guy who usually does not drink at baseball games, I like to enjoy such things with a clear state of mind. But when I'm at the Tampa game on the 26th you might just find me 6-7 deep wondering around Fenway. This is what this season has done to me.
  20. More out of left field than the number of left fielders on the Sox roster.
  21. I didn't even know who he was until yesterday, that comment was just out of left field lol. I may be a lot of things....A LOT OF THINGS, I just a man with many character flaws.....but playing victim certainly isn't one of them.
  22. Da f***......don't you have more posts than me? Edit. Oh I guess not lol
  23. I would believe that.
  24. Someone once said this and I honestly can't remember if it was a poster on the soxprospects thread or if Ian said it on the podcast but it really resonated with me and I've adopted it as my own. If you're the most rational guy in the room every time, you will be outbid every time. Bloom has a value system, and he sticks to his guns, and that is commendable, but his inability to EVER leave that comfort zone is what led to some terrible roster decisions....or rather some roster indecisions that have really hurt this teams performance the past two years. Henry is, or at least I HOPE he is going to hire someone who has the fortitude to ensure the Sox get a couple of these top tier free agents this winter. No team gets all the top guys, even the Mets and Dodgers but the Sox used to always be players and get their guy every once in a while. Now it just doesn't happen. That has to change.
  25. Probably not, but I'm sure certain moves have to be run by Henry. Who knows what that threshold is. 300 mil, 200 mil, 150 mil? IDK, but I'm sure there's a number that any guy working for Henry knows....hey, If i'm spending this I need to run it by the boss.
