All teams use analytics, and have models that they use to evaluate players both within and outside their organization. The Sox are not special in this.

Well that's what happens with a lot of these IFA guys who start playing at 17. A lot of the guys from that era also lost a year of development due to covid, I'm sure a lot of other teams are feeling a pinch. We seem to have traded some of the guys clogging up that 40 man decision to be made this offseason.

They're not, hence exception. You'll always find an exception if you go digging, but that's the general rule of thumb. I don't know, it's not my rule, I've just heard the guys at Soxprospects say multiple times that that's the gold standard with the Sox player development on promoting guys. There's also certain things they look for as well, and I'm sure that number is fungible. If a guy is a little over 200, checks all the boxes of what they're looking for, and there's a spot in a level above them, they move.

What I meant by that is more about......you can't really find too many guys who get promoted before 250 PA's. There are exceptions, like when Roman Anthony gets 10 games in the FCL. Campbell isn't quiet at that threshold, but he's close, but for reasons you stated he's probably staying in AA this year. Likely starts next year in AAA, or is quickly promoted.

Sox typically like a guy to have at least 250 PA's at a level doing well before they promote a guy, Mayer is over 500 and has looked great this season. It was time, no bones. Anthony over 400 and becomes the youngest player in AAA for the Sox in almost 50 years. Teel also had over 400 PAs It was time for these guys.

I can’t believe we are still talking about who traded Betts. Some people still argue the world is flat. Here it is. Bloom traded Betts. I think it’s been LONG established that Bloom did so at the directive of Henry. Anyone was going to trade him or get fired. Bloom traded Betts. Ownership is to blame. Case closed, again again.

Which if Paulino, Coffey, or Batista was too much? Or really hurting our future? Also, that’s the price for a rental but who cares if resigns here or elsewhere. BUT, if the Sox believe both Teel and Wong are starters they could resign Jansen as a back up and trade one of those guys. Reese McGuire was one of the worse hitters in all of baseball, and their defense behind the plate was atrocious.

This was the problem Atlanta had, they had at the time and still an amazing roster now, what was considered the strongest position player roster locked up. That's why they were giving him reps in LF, he's a RHB that hit at every level so one would hope that given a clean bill of health he could do the same in Boston eventually. But with Mayer, and Story locked up as you said he may not have a home up the middle, and that might be a good thing if you consider it to be because those two guys are on the roster. If Grissom is healthy, and looks ready for another chance then under that scenario I hope they give him a look at other positions. I could see him getting time pretty much anywhere other than C/CF/RF

A lot of people mis read a lot of things around here, myself included. I've decided to let it slide and not bother with the semantics with people......I'm sure it won't last and I will break soon.

I assume many people haven't given up on him. I don't speak for, nor to I speak to everyone. SO yeah, It certainly feels some think Grissom stinks and the trade was awful.....I mean to be fair that's been the conclusion to date.

No, I don't think they do that little, they're in a better position to compete now. Plus they always spend the money, just not the way we may like it. Your example requires ZERO payroll added. Last year they added Giolito, the year before Kluber, Yoshida, Turner and Jansen. My point is, even when they've made all the wrong moves or bad moves they've still made moves and spent something. I expect this year to be no different..........but hopefully with different results.

Time and time and time again we see guys turning it on after getting some time and we are already, STILL, YET AGAIN, ready to give up on a guy after 81 at bats. I always viewed Grissom as more of a 2b/3b/1b/LF super utility type who may be able to provide 1.5-2 war a year for the next 5 years.

Id be surprised with just ONE big name, at the same time part of me feels like this could be the year they finally do something.

Those were still guys they got to fill holes instead of looking within their organization, which was my point. Not whether or not the outcome was good.

I think you will see some of that, but they're not going sit by and make no moves. Even in the most crappy, worse played off season the Sox went out and got guys......we just didn't like those guys. For the first time in a long time we might be simultaneously coming off of a winning season AND have been under the luxury tax. If they don't spend this offseason they will literally have exhausted every excuse they have.

Some interesting names for sure, I hope some of those guys pop, while none of them are terribly highly regarded it could also be where a lot of those guys flame out as well. Greenville might be just as interesting as all of them. Johanfran Garcia Justin Riemer Antonio Anderson Nazzan Zanetello Miguel Bleis Braden Montgomery. A few of those guys have fell short of expecations to date; thinking about 2023 draftees Zanetello and Anderson, but they're both very young and were considered projects when drafted. If they pop, Greenville will be as interesting as any of them.

agreed, that’s why they didn’t do it. But even in a weaker system they had the ammunition to pull a trade if they wanted to.

There are pros and cons to going to a 6 man, taxing the bullpen is one of them. You might have more flexibility though, with guys coming back and depth, that is debateable. Fatigue doesn't go away, you don't push through it. If you've been up for 24 hours and our tired, you don't get less tired by just sticking it out and staying up even longer, you just get more tired. At the end of the day......it's going to get worse if they don't get some rest. I'm not sure if it's them not being more than 120 inning guys or just having a higher work load, I think most pitchers would experience some kind of fatigue once they start pushing past their limits. Tanner has barely ever pitched above 100 innings. Must guys aren't going to go past 100 to 180 innings AND then go deep in the playoffs. With the playoffs you're doubling their load. I'll be more concerned if he's gassing out around 130-150 innings next year, rather than this year. But getting more rest should reverse the symptoms

Both Kutter and Tanner are obviously gassed. I don't know why they're not either going to a 6 man, or giving each one a skip in the rotation at this point. If they have serious playoff ambitions this is essential. It's only going to get worse, as the season has two months left. I think 6 man goes a long way

And even weakened farm systems can still have a few blue chip prospects at the top.
