  1. He appears to have overcome adversity from time to time as he's progressed in his baseball career. I don't think anyone is naive to think there won't be hiccups. He has the advantage right now with no 'books' on him. I doubt minor league pitchers can exploit his weaknesses but the major league pitchers will and teams will defense him better. You can laugh all you want but this team needed spark from LF with all the injuries. He was a top 10 draft pick. He was college player of the year. Maybe we should cut him slack. I doubt he's going to be a mental case and fade away from baseball if he struggles from time to time. Everyone here compares every player to Clay Buchholtz. There are some mentally tough athletes.
  2. I just saw an article ranking mlb projected starting rotation prior to 2016 season. Price, Porcello, E Rod, Buchholtz and Kelly were #10 or so, ahead of Baltimore and Toronto. Factor in Price getting to horrendous start (but winning because of historical offensive prowess) and E Rod being hurt, Sox basically went 1-5 on projected starting pitchers. We've had incredible run of bad streaks projecting out. They are simply not getting the job done. I'm not a big fan of John Farrell but he's had some rough patches. Puts in his closer last night and the guy is not reliable, simple as that.
  3. This will be the biggest loss if we let this get away...
  4. How about pitching to contact when you are up by 3?
  5. Benintendi was the consolation prize for coming in last in 2014.....
  6. Nice job by Ben for extending Porcello....He made few good moves.....
  7. Beny getting respect with 2 strikes..8-16....Sandy Leon start. Moon you and I have been vindicated on Benny...
  8. As far as I'm concerned the outfield is SET. Young needs to DH next year against left handers. Hanley on first vs Lefties, Shaw plays 1B or 3B vs righties
  9. Now we have Benintendi for 6 years of team control.....cheaper to develop talent in house. (but in all honesty, he was a good player coming out of college and we got him because we came in last in 2014) I don't know about you but he sure looks to be the left fielder for us. Maybe Young can DH a little next year. Get both Hanley and Young against Lefties. Against righties, Shaw can play first and Hanley DH.
  10. And half of you wanted Benintendi to play AAA......why waste his talent?
  11. It's called going for drawing inside royal flush on the river after going all in and your opponent has 4 of a kind....
  12. Signing Encarnacion will not solve our biggest problem next year. But there are no top of the line starting pitcher in FA market. But we can't make a trade for top of the line starting pitcher because we want to keep our top prospects and young ML ball players. So signing Encarnacion will add depth to our offense. We sign him because we can't get 1-3 type pitchers. C Sandy 1B Hanley 2B Pedey SS Xander 3B Shaw LF Benintendi CF Bradley RF Betts DH Encarnacion.....Offense, check Moon has stated if we can't win this year with Ortiz having a stellar offensive year, what makes us think we can win with Encarnacion? I guess my thought would be that we could be lot worse next year if we don't try to replace Ortiz.
  13. Okay I got a chuckle out of this....too tired to stand at 2B? It's all good.....we're on the same team and not to mention you have some logic behind it....
  14. If he's faster than E Rod, I will buy you a drink...
  15. I doubt he gets fired during the season unless the team just collapses. I think it's difficult to hear the same voice that has directed the team to two last place finishes before this year. He's gone if we don't make the playoffs. Something needs to be changed. Several players will be back. It won't be complete rebuild situation.
  16. I cringed when he dove back to 2nd base...all we need is for him to get hurt while pinch running....that had to be wtf moment in major leagues this year....kind of funny..
  17. By the way, was that a joke that we had to pinch run for Ortiz with Wright? That's all we got?
  18. Beni is a baseball player. Does not possess speed of Bradley but runs the bases well. He stole second and came around on a base hit that Bryce Brentz would have NEVER scored. He's a better outfielder than Holt defensively. He was college player of the year. Maybe that doesn't translate all the time. But he has a sweet swing that translates well in the majors. Farrell is the only person that will stop his progress. Will he have some rough patches? Sure...Xander is 4-28 in August. That follows .288 in July. Bradley is 5-25 in August. Ortiz is in midst of 6-44 slump. Even accomplished major leaguers go through rough patches. He should benefit from teams not having a 'book' on him. Quit playing games with this kid and let him play. HE WON'T BE THE REASON WE DON'T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.
  19. I'm okay with Bradley being packaged to the White Sox for a starting pitcher.... Will they take Bradley, Devers and E Rod and couple of more mid tier prospects?
  20. The bottom line is to never fall in love with a player...no one is worth $30m per year... Sox can not overspend on Betts, Bogaerts and Bradley.... Benintendi is a keeper in LF...that's six years of control....3 years at league minimum... If we don't sign Encarancion, what about platooning Shaw and Young as DH. The can provide LF/3B/1B depth.
  21. he'll be pulled when lefty comes in
  22. Benintendi is smart...he went up there to hit. He knew Price was behind him with 2 outs......he needs to stay in the line up....live with it.
