Signing Encarnacion will not solve our biggest problem next year. But there are no top of the line starting pitcher in FA market. But we can't make a trade for top of the line starting pitcher because we want to keep our top prospects and young ML ball players. So signing Encarnacion will add depth to our offense. We sign him because we can't get 1-3 type pitchers. C Sandy 1B Hanley 2B Pedey SS Xander 3B Shaw LF Benintendi CF Bradley RF Betts DH Encarnacion.....Offense, check Moon has stated if we can't win this year with Ortiz having a stellar offensive year, what makes us think we can win with Encarnacion? I guess my thought would be that we could be lot worse next year if we don't try to replace Ortiz.

I doubt he gets fired during the season unless the team just collapses. I think it's difficult to hear the same voice that has directed the team to two last place finishes before this year. He's gone if we don't make the playoffs. Something needs to be changed. Several players will be back. It won't be complete rebuild situation.

I cringed when he dove back to 2nd base...all we need is for him to get hurt while pinch running....that had to be wtf moment in major leagues this year....kind of funny..

Beni is a baseball player. Does not possess speed of Bradley but runs the bases well. He stole second and came around on a base hit that Bryce Brentz would have NEVER scored. He's a better outfielder than Holt defensively. He was college player of the year. Maybe that doesn't translate all the time. But he has a sweet swing that translates well in the majors. Farrell is the only person that will stop his progress. Will he have some rough patches? Sure...Xander is 4-28 in August. That follows .288 in July. Bradley is 5-25 in August. Ortiz is in midst of 6-44 slump. Even accomplished major leaguers go through rough patches. He should benefit from teams not having a 'book' on him. Quit playing games with this kid and let him play. HE WON'T BE THE REASON WE DON'T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.

I'm okay with Bradley being packaged to the White Sox for a starting pitcher.... Will they take Bradley, Devers and E Rod and couple of more mid tier prospects?

The bottom line is to never fall in love with a player...no one is worth $30m per year... Sox can not overspend on Betts, Bogaerts and Bradley.... Benintendi is a keeper in LF...that's six years of control....3 years at league minimum... If we don't sign Encarancion, what about platooning Shaw and Young as DH. The can provide LF/3B/1B depth.

Benintendi is smart...he went up there to hit. He knew Price was behind him with 2 outs......he needs to stay in the line up....live with it.

Betts clearly is the best of B boys...he doesn't look to get down much....you can see negative body language from Xander and Bradley

We should be in first place simply by winning few more times when Price starts....it's as simple as that...3 game differential puts us in 1st place. I don't think 14-9 is too much to ask from a $210M man.

I'm not sure where Leon's bat will eventually bottom out to be but he looks very comfortable at the plate. Catching position to me is not a problem right now when Leon starts. Need a better back up though. I

I think he was hurting.....I'm laughing a little bit. He's a gamer but if it hurts too much, even Pedey needs to come out of the lineup. We still have several games to play. Baseball is a 10K race. Can't run a 5 minute pace all the way to the end.

99% of the posters here would never be disrespectful to any of the Sox players. Sometimes internet posters, myself included, speak about the players as though they are commodities, sold, traded and discarded. But they have families and I have no doubt they are upstanding people. My guess is that this was very difficult for John Farrell. He's closest to the player other than Layne's teammates. I think everyone here would wish him well.

I guess we can hope that our top 5 pitchers will get better...we may see a slide from Porcello and Wright. We'll probably see improved Price and E Rod simply from won lost %. Pomeranz has been very disappointing simply because of 20 pitch innings and failure to locate. I was really looking forward to watching him but it's becoming a Dice K experience for me and he's only pitched 4 times. Do you think we should take a step backward (trade away some high prospects and young players) and acquire Chris Sales? With dearth of quality starting pitchers, will the Sox be just good enough to stay on the playoff fringe and frustrate us all again? I should had my teeth cleaned than to watch Sox get shutout today. And Ziegler is not coming back. I'm not blaming DD but other than Ziegler, every move has backfired.....traded players are not living up to their previous hype.
