  1. So if it wasn't for DD, we would have won the whole thing again? Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay then! Problem solved.
  2. It's not like we have nothing Our opening day lineup could be Betts, Devers, Xander, JD, Beni, Chavis, Vaz, Hernandez and JBJ (probably a long shot)..... If healthy Price, Sale, Eovaldi, E Rod and someone not named Johnson.
  3. You don't lose year of control but you burn up one of his 'options'.
  4. Sox should do it with D Hernandez.
  5. Our pitchers as a group pitched well when it mattered the most. I'd be surprised if Yankees get the job done this year. A division title? We did it three straight years. Not a big deal without the World Series ring.
  6. Only way Porcello comes back will be at a steep discounted price, $7-8M for one year, trying to build up his value for 2021. I'm just not sure anyone would give him long term contract. Name the team! E Rod has two more years of team control. Price and Eovaldi have three more years left on their contracts. Sale will around for awhile. Do we have an internal option? How about stretching out Hernandez? Can he be much worse than our 'fifth' starters this year? I expect Dalbec to be called up soon. Can he be ready for action sometime in 2020? Meanwhile do we go with Marco at 2B and Chavis at 1B? I'm with Moon in just parting ways with JBJ and his $10M. Find a defensive outfielder. Can we stick Sam Travis in LF and move Beni to CF? Our starter have to get healthy or we can kiss 2020 goodbye no matter how much better our bullpen gets.
  7. Does anyone know precisely how the revenues are split between teams for each round of playoffs? Home gate, TV, etc? I remember reading an article few years ago about the Yankees not making the playoffs and how much impact it had on Yankees' bottom line. The jest of the article was Yankees can afford to have higher payroll if making the playoffs became the norm. I think they has missed the playoffs for couple of years at the time of the article.
  8. His previous 5 starts. date IP H R ER BB 8/03 3.0 8 3 3 0 8/09 2.2 2 3 3 2 8/14 2.2 3 1 0 2 8/20 3.2 6 3 3 2 8/25 3.0 4 3 3 3 If you think this is a good stat line, then you know nothing about baseball. Did you ever think that Johnson came in to pitch as long as he can? Good for him that he went 3 innings. But they were not going to start him......They were not going to let him put the team behind right away........are you f***ing serious?
  9. Obviously the original OP hasn't looked at Johnson's record as a starter lately. Look it up.
  10. We talk constantly about 'emptying out the farm'. Who have we lost really? Can the traded players start for us? You don't think for Sale giving up Kopech and Moncada was a bad trade? Is it now a bad trade because of Sale's new contract? That's not the trade's fault. Have you looked at what our roster would look like with the players traded away? Look at DD's trade for Kimbrel. To date, have we given up much on that trade?
  11. His pay drops in 2021, not next season.....he'll opt out after 2021
  12. E Rod saved my TV viewing during 2015 season. I watched him pitch every start on TV. I'm not sure Johnson and E Rod are in the same zip code.
  13. Brian Johnson is a f***ing joke......0-3 after first three batters, walks the next.... He needs to f***ing go away for 2020. What the hell is wrong with our minor league development for pitchers?
  14. Yep, our rotation was going to be one of the best this year. It didn't happen.
  15. He made the move to acquire a fifth starter. How did that turn out? What relievers were out there? It's always easy after the fact to pick and choose which players we should have gone after.
  16. You are what your offensive stats say you are.....and JBJ is not a very good hitter despite positive streaks that surfaces from time to time. I agree that good defensive center fielders are not hard to find. $10M can go long ways in finding a back end starter or couple of relievers.
  17. 2019 is all on the players. What, now we're babying the players that make collectively $243M?
  18. The problem is not JD. the problem is non performing contracts. We're paying final year and player option for Sandoval. This has been a dead contract for what, three years now? We're paying Pedey this year and next couple of years along with minimal participation out of him for past two years. I'm not blaming Pedey. He's hurt. I am a big fan of Eovaldi signing. But his absence has taxed our entire pitching staff. Porcello is struggling this year but he's in his final year. We let Nunez go and eat his $5M contract. There's now no point in bringing back Pearce. Moreland just looks unathletic, struggling physically. Again, luckily he's in his last year. I doubt JD will opt out this year. Why? What American league contender will pay him large sum to be a DH? More likely he opts out after the 2020 season when his annual salary takes a dip. I'd offer Betts long term contract after this season with series of opt outs starting 2022. That means he's only tied to Red Sox for one additional season. You can front load the contract so both sides would be happy.
  19. That's really horrible. Best wishes to you, all your family members and friends.
  20. I'm just not sure how our starting pitching is going to hold up vs top tier teams. Our bullpen will be tested. Losing 7 straight to Tampa and Yankees starting on July 30th probably sealed our fate. (that was on the heels of losing the 4th game vs the Yankees after winning the first 3). It's a must that we sweep the Rays in September when we meet up for 4. I wouldn't be any money on it.
  21. It really hurt that Tampa won 1-0 in 10 innings on Saturday and they came from behind 4-1 yesterday. Tigers were up 4-1 after 7th, then 4-3 in the 9th, SS made an error on 1st batter to open the floodgate in the 9th.
  22. As early as spring training, many here were down on Devers. You just need to let the kids play. Chavis will be a solid major league player. You'll probably disagree. I also think Marco is a very serviceable 2B (obviously he has to stay healthy). He's the best option as long as we're paying Pedey. Pitching, pitching, pitching....why hast thou forsaken me?
  23. We bitch and moan about our pitching but it's ok to bring back Johnson because he makes less than $1M. Oh wait, isn't that what DD did?
  24. Love to see him extended. Team should be built around Xander and Devers.
  25. Great move by DD for letting Mocada go and keeping Devers.....he clearly knew who he wanted. We are all back seat drivers here. Do not rewrite the history book. He took the job on the heels of back to back last place finishes, three out of 4 years if I'm not mistaken. He was tasked to turn the team around. He immediately overpaid for Price (he needed Price). He needed a closeR so he overpaid for Kimbrel (he needed Kimbrel). He'll overpay to get the players he wants and will decimate the farm if he hast to......John Henry hired him knowing what DD does. He added Sale by trading away young talented duo in Moncada (Devers was going to be a better 3B) and Kopech (a kid I really hated to see go). He won two division titles. He then cemented the climb back by winning third straight division title and then the World Series. This year's team should have been playoff bound. We let two relievers go who would have ate up $22M+, which would have put us up over the very top luxury tax limit for second year in a row. It's on the players, then the manager. You can make all kind of excuses. I'll tell you what. GO ASK CHRIS SALE IF HE THINKS IT'S DD'S FAULT.....YOU KNOW THE ANSWER AND CHRIS NEVER LIES.
