  1. If Betts looks at Boston's farm system, he might not like what he sees. Corner infielder Triston Casas is the only Red Sox prospect who ranks among MLB Pipeline's Top 100 overall, and he barely made the cut at No. 85. Casas also might not reach the Majors for another two years. "It is universally believed that the Sox's best hope at finding impact young talent resides in the lower levels of the minors, leading to more uncertainty," Bradford writes. Don't we have Xander to a long term contract? We have Devers. Our we just going to have bunch of chumps? How many more wasted contracts does he think we'll give out? A ten year deal is long time. Is the writer implying we'll suck for 10 years?
  2. There's no shortage of good players....what do you with Devers after signing Betts to 10 year, $350M contract? Chris Sale will still be on the books. I rather Sox be nimble. For me, JD's contract is great. If he's not injured, he'll opt out after 2020. He would have been well worth it for 3 years and he earned his pay.
  3. I will wait until investigation is over but.... Cheaters should be punished......millions in fines and make the team ineligible for playoffs in 2020. You can't do this. How can you feel good about winning the World Series knowing you cheated? Unreal.
  4. It would be worst of luck if Price, Sale and Eovaldi ALL remain hurt for remainder of their contract years. At best, this is not a bad starting rotation, regardless of who #5 is.
  5. He was one of the leaders. He lost my respect and many fans lost respect for him too. I just don't care about the guy. I'm a nobody. Who cares?
  6. Yep, he deserved everything that's happened to him. He picked the wrong horse. Pedey, you're nothing to me.
  7. We're $13M over right now....getting rid of JBJ and Leon gets us $15M.... Can we plug in Hernandez at 2B, Chavis at 1B, obtain a cheap, cheap defensive CF, use internal options to plug Porcello, roll the dice with bullpen, and contend for a playoff spot? Or in addition to JBJ and Leon, trade away Betts and get a starter and a reliever the better way to the playoff contention?
  8. goal is to be competitive right at the luxury tax line....make a move at trade deadline if we have chance to win it all....make sure it's a short term deal. Along with that, keep the farm in tact, don't trade away Dalbec unless it's for someone comparable playing a different position. Do not trade him for an older player.
  9. Missing Price after 2022
  10. I'm completely opposed to trading away Dalbec. Let's see what he's got......
  11. yes, along with Sandy, Hembree and others arbitration eligible
  12. Hey Cot has plugged in projected arbitration numbers........sweet! Group huggie for budgies. PS we're almost at $221M, $13M over.....
  13. I agree....He always thinks outside of the box. Rather than moving heavy objects, read Davis Price and his $93M, Bloom is more likely to trade E Rod for a two young almost major league players. That's how he builds the farm and stays away from having several monstrous contracts. I'll duck because inside the box thinkers will tell me how in the hell do you trade away our only young pitcher? E Rod has only two years left folks. This is the best time to trade him. Now I'm beginning to think like the second wife that has to clean up the financial ruin that the first wife left the husband in. "Honey, here's your sandwich. Nope, you can't go out with your colleagues. Only on Fridays."
  14. I wrote to Cot's once and he responded and thanked me.....some minor error I saw....he's solid...
  15. All I meant was you can't just 'assume' he would have won 15 games AND THEREFORE the lead would have been 34 games instead of 19.
  16. You're much smarter than that......it's very possible that your replacements actually played better than the 'regulars'. Speaking of injuries, Sox injuries were also significant. I would argue that Price, Sale and Eovaldi being 100% healthy would have impacted Sox wins and losses more than the Yankees and their injuries. I doubt if both teams were at full strength, 19 game deficit would have grown any bigger.
  17. He may get it but that's out of my price range....I'd put a limit of $25M for position players. I don't think the revenue line in mlb is growing these days.
  18. Just as JD not opting out was a critical information but I also agree that Sale's checkup will be significant event. That may dictate team's viability for being competitive in 2020. No way we compete with Sale and Porcello out of the starting rotation mix.
  19. We did get E Rod for couple of months of Miller.
  20. Source: Red Sox did not make any adjustments to J.D. Martinez's contract to help him make him make his decision. The deal remains the same: $23.75M in 2020 (opt-out after year), $19.375M in 2021 (opt-out after year), $19.375M in 2022. This is where DD would have reworked the contract, throw in little more money and maybe extending couple of more years. Again, DD bidding against himself. He did what he had to do with three last place finishes out of 4 years. But, it really was time for him to move on.
  21. Not to mention Devers will require significant money before you know it.........There's always another 'great' player on the horizon. The approach should be to build a playoff bound team around $208M. Then if an opportunity presents itself, go get that guy to put the team over the top. Not the other way around. As much as I respect Trout, what's the game plan for the Angels? Is that going to be the Sox? Betts and no one else?
  22. I feel better knowing we have JD, Xander and Devers. It just makes more sense for JD to opt out after 2020 season. AND if he gets injured, he's still protected for 2021 season and then he can opt. Good to options.
  23. I am excited for our new GM. He'll make some value acquisitions instead of simply throwing money at players, and I'm not just talking about DD either. Sox GM's have history of throwing away $8-$12M. Can't do that in Tampa.
  24. Yeah because our pitching has been so much better.....NOT.
  25. JBJ was worth $10M in the context of having outstanding outfield trio on a team with plenty of offense from other spots. The team was competing for World Championship. He was piece of that puzzle. He's not in that spot anymore. The team is no longer in that spot. I doubt he was ever worth $10M to any other team. We'll see, won't we?
