  1. All I meant was you can't just 'assume' he would have won 15 games AND THEREFORE the lead would have been 34 games instead of 19.
  2. You're much smarter than that......it's very possible that your replacements actually played better than the 'regulars'. Speaking of injuries, Sox injuries were also significant. I would argue that Price, Sale and Eovaldi being 100% healthy would have impacted Sox wins and losses more than the Yankees and their injuries. I doubt if both teams were at full strength, 19 game deficit would have grown any bigger.
  3. He may get it but that's out of my price range....I'd put a limit of $25M for position players. I don't think the revenue line in mlb is growing these days.
  4. Just as JD not opting out was a critical information but I also agree that Sale's checkup will be significant event. That may dictate team's viability for being competitive in 2020. No way we compete with Sale and Porcello out of the starting rotation mix.
  5. We did get E Rod for couple of months of Miller.
  6. Source: Red Sox did not make any adjustments to J.D. Martinez's contract to help him make him make his decision. The deal remains the same: $23.75M in 2020 (opt-out after year), $19.375M in 2021 (opt-out after year), $19.375M in 2022. This is where DD would have reworked the contract, throw in little more money and maybe extending couple of more years. Again, DD bidding against himself. He did what he had to do with three last place finishes out of 4 years. But, it really was time for him to move on.
  7. Not to mention Devers will require significant money before you know it.........There's always another 'great' player on the horizon. The approach should be to build a playoff bound team around $208M. Then if an opportunity presents itself, go get that guy to put the team over the top. Not the other way around. As much as I respect Trout, what's the game plan for the Angels? Is that going to be the Sox? Betts and no one else?
  8. I feel better knowing we have JD, Xander and Devers. It just makes more sense for JD to opt out after 2020 season. AND if he gets injured, he's still protected for 2021 season and then he can opt. Good to options.
  9. I am excited for our new GM. He'll make some value acquisitions instead of simply throwing money at players, and I'm not just talking about DD either. Sox GM's have history of throwing away $8-$12M. Can't do that in Tampa.
  10. Yeah because our pitching has been so much better.....NOT.
  11. JBJ was worth $10M in the context of having outstanding outfield trio on a team with plenty of offense from other spots. The team was competing for World Championship. He was piece of that puzzle. He's not in that spot anymore. The team is no longer in that spot. I doubt he was ever worth $10M to any other team. We'll see, won't we?
  12. Craig Kimbrel's 3 year $45 million deal he signed mid season will be looked at as a danger sign. In 20.2 innings last year he posted a 6.53 ERA. See Kimmi, Theo is not perfect and he went against your theory on not paying big bucks for a reliever. He was declining in 2018. Big mistake so far.
  13. Wait, wait, wait. They've ratified the three-batter minimum rule for 2020? Really?
  14. My comment about better players getting the benefit was generality, not specific to Greinke. Greg Maddux falls under that category. Don't get me wrong, he was great. But he never had boarder line pitch go against him or that was my PERCEPTION when baseball games were limited and I watched TBS.
  15. It's time. It's almost criminal not to use technology where it's available. If I'm a player, I'd insist on it. PERCEPTION IS 100%. Right now, better players get the benefit.
  16. I agree....it's possible that JD opts out for bigger money and has great couple of years....good for him. Fans forget that under normal circumstances (ie we've overspent) we are GAINING JD's salary...$22-24M....enough to acuqire another bat. His contract was excellent for both sides.
  17. You're the only one that gets me......
  18. He'll be great....he'll keep it around the tax limit
  19. first question out of his mouth...why are we paying this guy $10M to play CF? done. second question out of his mouth...we're going to pay this guy $30M and he's bolting at the end of the year? done third question out of his mouth...you're worried he may opt out? Hell throw in another couple of million for him to opt out. done It's clearer from 30,000 ft looking down. He'll get our payroll down to $100M in no time.
  20. They have dissimilar body type...one is pure athlete and other is not...
  21. That maybe true but I like both Houston/Nationals starters over Yankees.
  22. Yankees are so close to being dominant, by that I mean their hitting and bullpen is off the chart. You have CC coming off the books, maybe Gardner and Encarnacion. Elsbury comes off next year. They have to throw money at Cole. It's just money. You don't tap into your farm, you don't lose anyone on the roster. If I'm a Yankee fan, starting pitching has to be addressed. Above average is not good enough. Great hitting will propel the team to 100 wins. Not sure that will get you the World Series ring. Look at the starting pitchers for Nationals and Astros. That's how you win it all. Not with bunch of #3 starters.
  23. Wouldn't that be true with every minor leaguer?
  24. little bit of hyperbole....but with everything being said about our farm, why would you trade him NOW? c Vaz 1B Dalbec 2B Chavis SS Xander 3B Devers I can live with that for 2020. I thought the goal was to reset?
  25. Absolutely NO to trading Dalbec. Why would you trade away next Devers? His trade value is NOT the best right now. Play him first.
