  1. Geez, maybe we should extend Rick.
  2. I just loved reading the Game Day reaction to Cora bringing in first, Brewer. Then wait for it, Brasier. Complete meltdown. Funny stuff. I'm pretty sure at least one poster had a heart attack. Kimmi is right. Our bullpen is not the problem.
  3. why not pinch hit for Sandy?
  4. Someone's math doesn't add up. There are only 19 starting pitchers making $20M+ in mlb including Porcello. And a poster thinks $20M is typical salary for #3/#4 pitcher? There are 30 teams in mlb. I'll be generous and say that Porcello's resume is that of #2 pitcher. I realize there are several pitchers still under team control. But still, I don't see giving a $20M salary to team's #3 pitcher who pitches like a #3 pitcher.
  5. David Price going 1+ inning on Thursday and Johnson lasting only 3 innings yesterday forced our bullpen working on fumes. Cora did his best to patchwork the pen over the weekend. Thank God we scored some runs at top of 10th so we could afford Josh Smith to 'close'. This is MLB and it's bottom line game. After losing first two games in Texas, we recovered to win 5 straight. I was worried about yesterday's game thinking we would have to out score Baltimore with Johnson taking the mound. His rehab stint in the minors was very uninspiring at best. I remember a time when we thought Johnson was a very good prospect.
  6. CHICAGO -- The first domino has fallen in the wake of the Edwin Encarnacion trade as the Yankees optioned outfielder Clint Frazier to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre after Sunday’s 10-3 win over the White Sox. The move creates space on the 25-man roster for Encarnacion, who will join the team when it returns to New York and be available for Monday's series opener against the Rays. “It’s a tough pill to swallow. It’s never fun, especially with the way I thought I contributed to the team this year,” Frazier said. “Guess I’m facing reality right now.” Frazier, 24, has played well this season and has been one of the team’s most consistent bats while Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge have been out with injury for extended periods of time. “Very [difficult],” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s played a big role on a winning team and that doesn’t necessarily stop now. This is where we’re at with our roster situation. Obviously, tough news to deliver, but hopefully he can make the most of it and use it to get better at his craft.” Frazier is hitting .283/.330/.513 with 11 homers and an .843 OPS in 53 games for the Yankees this season. He went 1-for-5 with a strikeout on Sunday. Stanton is set to return this week. Who goes down next? Team chemistry? I'm not arguing upgrade with Encarnacion but at what cost? Our biggest question mark is how soon before Eovaldi returns to full health. I want to stay positive but he's a big missing part right now because we don't have an adequate fill in for healthy Eovaldi. On paper, we had one of the best starting rotation coming into 2019.
  7. We better save some money for a starter in case Eovaldi doesn't come back. Having Johnson as our best #5 at this point is joke.
  8. He definitely deserves it more than Machado.
  9. Just because one team is too stupid and overvalue a player doesn't mean we have to...... Just look at what Kimbrel was asking and what he ended up settling for.
  10. Trending is more critical for minor leaguers than entire body of work. They are constantly making adjustments. Working on new things. It's very possible that something has clicked for Feltman. I agree, let's cut him some slack. I don't care what he did in beginning. It matters what he is doing. (especially true for relievers)
  11. Would it be smart to leave behind 3 starting pitchers in States and not travel with the team when we play the Yankees in London? They would get 6 days off at home. They can come in and get some throwing in.
  12. I'd give Rick 2-3 year deal at slight hometown discount. That will lock down our starting rotation for 2/3 more years.
  13. 1,6,5,3,5,3,3,2,2,4,2,2,2,2,2,5,2,3,7, Sox end of year 40 man payroll rank 2019-2000. We're lucky to have the ownership that we have. No chance of reset. I don't regret Moreland/Pearce signings. 2019 season is not over. If it doesn't work out, we owe nothing for next year.
  14. I looked for "A Realistic View at 2021, Part I" but Moon hasn't got around to it. He's too busy crunching new OPS numbers for everyone based on where they bat in the order.
  15. Thus I said 2021.
  16. Red Sox outfield prospect Jarren Duran was promoted to Double-A Portland on Monday. Duran, 22, was Boston’s seventh-round pick in last year’s draft and hit .387/.456/.543 with four homers and 13 doubles for High-A Salem in 50 games to start the year. The former Long Beach State player has risen up prospect boards due to his torrid start and is now ranked as Boston’s No. 3 prospect by SoxProspects.com after starting the season at No. 13. He should be ready by 2021. I thought he was a little guy with all that speed buy he's 6-2. A contact hitter with plus plus speed. He will follow the path of Betts. A 2B converted to outfield. Beni.....Devers....Chavis.....???? I think we'll always be competitive.
  17. Things can all change quickly. Yankees can win the Division by 15 games but if they don't get to the world series their fans won't be happy. We all want the big prize. Assuming we get everyone healthy, we can still get through each playoff series, one game, best of five, best of seven. We have a talented ball club when they are all playing well. We just need to make sure we get one of the wild card spots. Another thing this season has taught me is that I'd think long and hard about $300M contracts. I rather overpay on short term deals. Moreland, Pearce and Nunez were all good gambles. It they don't deliver, they're off the team next year. High end players end up getting all the leverage. He they play well, they opt out after two or three years. If they suck, the team is stuck with unproductive player makings zillions.
  18. Playoffs?
  19. 5 years/$145M (2020-24), plus 2025 option signed extension with Boston 3/23/19 20:$30M, 21:$30M, 22:$30M, 23:$27.5M, 24:$27.5M, 25:$20M club option $50M is deferred, reducing average annual value to $25.6M (will defer $10M annually in 2020-24, to be paid on 6/30 in 15th year after the salary is earned, 2035-39. If club exercises 2025 option, $5M is deferred until 6/30/2040 Not sure Sale's contract, having some money deferred has been discussed. His CB payroll impact is $25.6M, instead of $29M. Some savings there for luxury tax.
  20. I was thinking defense. Any offense would be bonus. He's a true infielder. Better than Nunez, Holt and Chavis. Pearce and Nunez become redundant with Chavis playing 1B, 2B and DH. Holt can play everywhere. Pearce and Nunez have to hit.
  21. At some point, both Pearce and Nunez will need to contribute. Maybe not today, not next week. We can't have bunch of non productive offensive players that is lacking defensively also. If it was up to the majority, Devers and Chavis would still be honing their skills in the minors.
  22. Moon, is it time to consider Marco Hernandez (he's tearing it up right now) on our major league roster? We don't have a true 2B right now. I'm assuming he can play both 2B and SS. I rather free up Holt to play all over the field. Nunez scares me defensively. When do we say good by to Pearce? Chavis can get his bats at 2B, 1B and DH.
  23. It's business. You do what's best for the team. Most true fans get it. To get NOTHING for Betts is asinine. Before you know it, you'll need big money for Devers. We already hedged by signing Xander. You didn't think we'd do it. Extending both Sale and Xander tells me what the management is thinking. Unlike the Lester situation, it appears we made a fair offer to Betts' camp.
  24. Funny how things can change quickly...with Pedey now definitely out... This is Xander's team. Forget the opt out, he's singed through 2026 counting option year which is vested based on essentially him being healthy in 2025. Michael Chavis is a Sox until 2025. Devers is under team control through 2024. I wouldn't waste time extending Betts. I'd see what I can get for him after this season. We can always sign him as a free agent. You can BUY a very good player for his projected $25-$28M salary next year. Our starting pitching should be solid for next four years. Our bullpen should always be competitive what with all the young farm arms being converted to the pen. That's the core group going forward.
