  1. We're taking a chance on Sale for sure but Xander is only 26 and I'd say he has much better body than Pedey. Lot more athletic.
  2. So much for home team discount. $110M. 2014 135 games 2015 93 games 2016 154 games 2017 105 games 2018 3 games 2019 6 games 2020 0 games 2021 0 games Basically Sox paid him $27.5M per year. He gave everything he had. Not being negative about the player. He wanted to remain a Red Sox. Really need to think about long term contracts. I just want him to live a pain free life. He's too young to be hurting daily from just living.
  3. I'm sure it's because of Holt coming back and Sox wanting to go with 12 pitchers and 13 position players...and they were hedging against E Rod coming up short. BUT, when are we going to say goodbye to Thornburg? Does he have any upside left in him?
  4. I agree. Trout is deserving of his contract. I'm not sure any other position player deserves $300M+. I'm thinking of huge contracts given to Cano, Machado and Harper.
  5. You can't avoid Pedey's salary counting towards luxury tax computation. That's what we're talking about. Has Chavis cost us a game anymore than any other player? How about Barnes last night? 22-12 since Chavis call up. 6-13 prior to call up. He's not the problem.
  6. Devers was 2-for-4 with a homer, raising his average to .330. He had a monster road trip, hitting 13-for-27 (.481) with four homers, eight RBIs and eight runs in six games. 22 and looking to make the All Star Game. Kids can surprise you. We should worry about extending him.
  7. We've found a gem in Marcus......and he's not limited to one inning.
  8. Yep.....need to wear big boy pants. NO ONE PUT A GUN TO HENRY'S HEAD TO GIVE PEDEY THE CONTRACT HE HAS.....MAN UP.
  9. 6-13 prior to Chavis call up 21-12 after Chavis call up
  10. Should we send down JBJ? Chavis changed the momentum for Red Sox this season. Without him, we're not playing .500 ball. Verlander is tough for anyone.
  11. No homer in April, 7 in May
  12. $300M? I don't think so.
  13. He needs to get the ball in the air....tired of watching him hit ground balls.
  14. As bad as we're playing, we lead for second wild card berth.
  15. With the bullpen in need of some help after being heavily worked yesterday, the Red Sox today recalled LHP Darwinzon Hernandez, our no. 2 prospect, from @PortlandSeaDogs . RHP Colten Brewer optioned to @PawSox as the countermove. I love it when a kid gets a chance.....Let the Darwinzon era start.
  16. Yankees are outscoring opponents just as Sox did last year. We'll see if Betts has another gear in him this year to match last year's production. No way I'd pay $30M for non power bat. A team can only carry so many non productive hitters. Read JBJ, Leon and Nunez today.
  17. Devers quietly having a very good 22 year old season.
  18. Are we carrying 12 or 13 pitchers? MLB site has 12, 7 relievers and 5 starters including Hector. That leaves us with 13 position players. Subtract 9 (including DH), that leaves us with 4 depth pieces. We have as backups Sandy, Pearce and Nunez. Who am I missing? What I'm getting at is what needs to happen to bring back Hernandez on the roster? I doubt we give up on Pearce and Nunez due to their contracts. But... Obviously I would be pissed if Chavis gets sent down.... If Pedey returns who goes? If Holt returns who goes?
  19. Boston Red Sox utility infielder Marco Hernandez went 4-for-5 with a homer in Triple-A Pawtucket’s 11-8 win over Scranton Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Hernandez hasn’t played in a major league game since May 3, 2017. He has undergone three shoulder procedures since then. He still needs to get more work in at Pawtucket but getting close to being a major league depth option. Here you go Moon. Don't give up on him yet.
  20. At some point, do we go to a six man rotation to save the arms?
  21. I'm just happy that we found a cheap full time alternative in Chavis irregardless of position. I think we have additional bullpen help in the minors masquerading as starters.
  22. And not to mention both Eovaldi and Price were not available for the Houston series. We look different in best of 5 or best of 7 series assuming all of our starting pitchers are healthy. We have chance to win every game going in. Not the case right now.
  23. Houston outfield trio looks impressive.
  24. I thought we had bunch of analytical nerds of this board. Numbers don't lie do they? Chavis wasn't ready. He's a terrible 2B. Looks to me like he's doing fine. Right up there with JDM. Good for Vaz. He's right up there with Beni and Moreland. But he's not worthy of catching great Porcello. Got it. Do we even play tonight? No doubt Porcello won't last 3 innings.
  25. Player Team W L ERA▲ G GS SV SVO IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG WHIP Walden, M BOS 5 0 1.46 15 0 0 0 24.2 12 6 4 2 5 30 .140 0.69 I realize he's no spring chicken at age 30. But Walden has reinvented himself with a new pitch this year and also changed from 2 to 4 seamer (or vice versa, can't remember). What divine intervention is Thornburg waiting on? Nothing seems to be working for him. Cora stated there was a bit of urgency for Thornburg to pitch well in Spring Training. Apparently he's always been a slow starter. Well he had another bad spring. Are we simply going to keep him because we have $1M+ committed? It's time we let him go. Everyday he's on the roster is a reminder of bad trade with Milwaukee. Give someone else a chance. Maybe there's a Chavis in the minors that will serve the pen. I see that Vaz is now up to.294 BA and .838 OPS......not too shabby.
