  1. I agree that Sox need to make more small market moves. I'm all for it. Then, as a big market team, we have the ability to acquire an impact player that can get us over the hump. The trick is not to get into a long term deal, especially with pitchers. You can't pay a player for multiple years just for couple of years of production. Having money does not mean you should waste it, and we've done that under all three GM's. Just look at unproductive relievers that we've overpaid as an example. As a baseball fan, I'm okay watching young team play, knowing that better days are ahead. What I don't want to watch is bunch of aging, overpaid, unproductive baseball players. I don't want to see a team full of Ken Morelands next year.
  2. Maybe the lesson is to be more patient. Even at budget of $208M, you can buy good talent. Avoid long term deals on pitchers.
  3. Or you can get two major league starting pitcher for Devers. Would you trade Devers for 2 E Rods? I'm simply making a point and to agree with the original poster. Sell high. It never hurts to explore, no?
  4. I guess you missed the part about 2 "Devers" for 1 real one. Thanks for your narrative though.
  5. This is why management should NEVER consider anyone as untouchables. Always explore trade value of each player after each season. You don't have to make ANY trades. Why NOT explore what you can get for Devers? I've been his biggest fan since he was called up. But if I can get two "Devers" for the real one, why not go for it? I always thought Beni was overrated, not to say that he wasn't good. This board fell in love with our 3 B's and got carried away with it. Well he's no Betts. I'm just surprised that even Moon has cooled on him. Biggest task for the management is to figure out what year in the future do we target to go for it again. Make trades to maximize the talent for that year. That may require trading away established young veterans for up and coming future major leaguers.
  6. I will accept .500 season as long as younger guys are playing. I don't want to see Morelands of world taking up opportunity from our younger kids.
  7. If we keep everyone else (dumping Porcello, Pearce, Moreland, Nunez, Holt), do we have enough to make the playoffs AND contend for World Championship in 2020? If the answer is HELL NO, then we should clean house and reload in 2021. Trade away Betts, JBJ and JD? Re-sign Betts in 2021?
  8. Not sure what's funny... Guys with contracts other than Vaz and Xander are hard to trade. Why would we trade Xander and Boz anyway? If we are in a rebuild, do it and get it over with. We still have bunch of guys under team control. I would trade to get younger players that would all 'arrive' at the same time. Maybe it's 2022 or 2023. You're telling me we can't win next year. If so, why keep Betts? Why keep JD? Why keep JBJ? That's why management makes the big bucks. Making tough calls.
  9. Team Control (including options) Contracts Xander 2020-2026 Sale 2020-2024 Price 2020-2022 Eovaldi 2020-2022 Vaz 2020-2022 Dustin 2020-2021 sign Devers to long term contract and trade everyone else? Technically, we can trade every other player, no? If you're going over the cliff, it might as well be a steep one. Shoot for 2022 or 2023.
  10. You don't ever offend me.....bold away!
  11. It starts with Henry wanting payroll to be below $208M when we had a payroll for luxury tax purposes of $240M or so. Both Xander's and Sale's AAV will go up for 2020. If we extend Devers, our luxury tax payroll will also go up. Hell, I want both JD and Betts to be back and sign some more free agent pitchers. I doubt if I'll get my wish. $208M is NOT a rumor.
  12. I guess the key is to reload quickly enough to take advantage of having cost controlled players in Xander, Devers, Vaz, Chavis, Hernandez, Sale, Eovaldi, Price and E Rod. I agree with pitching depth. You need pitching depth at major league level and also in the minors. We don't have any in our minor league system. As I get older, I just want the Sox to have a legit shot at winning the World Series. It's not as easy as it looks. Just look at the Cubs. With money, Theo and Madden, they looked like a beginning of dynasty when they won the World Series a year EARLIER than some expected. Baseball is still just a game. Houston has done the best job in my opinion. They've added impact starting pitching to already talented and deep baseball team. Their window of opportunity is the longest of all contenders. LA to me owned NL but the team is just a very good vs AL teams. I used to HATE the Yankees but no longer. Sox winning four titles has spoiled me. I'll be watching to see how the reset goes.
  13. For the Sox, I would trade Betts for cost controlled arm and assuming JD leaves, reload in 2021.
  14. If I'm the Yankees, I'd sign JD in a heart beat with short right field porch. He'd hit 50 homers easy with the lineup around him.
  15. ERA is based on per nine innings pitched. A guy giving up 6 runs in 4 inning will have an ERA of 6 x 9/4 or 13.50 and not 5.0. Now I agree that starting pitcher with 5.0 ERA who pitches 6 innings has more value than a guy who pitches 4 innings per start.
  16. It's a joke that anyone thinks that Red Sox job is unattractive. I'd say THAT guy is a puss**.
  17. And Cora went along with it.....it's only his second year. But he made a mistake. He's a good coach. Starting pitching where we invested $90M+ just didn't get the job done.
  18. 2016 Boston, Baltimore (W), Toronto (W), NY, Tampa 2017 Boston, NY (W), Tampa, Toronto, Baltimore 2018 Boston, NY (W) Tampa, Toronto, Baltimore 2019 NY, Tampa (W), Boston, Toronto, Baltimore I rather be us than them.....over the last 4 years...apparently many of you would rather be in Yankees/Rays shoes. I wouldn't have traded placed in 2016.
  19. Sox prospect ranking moved up to 22nd. I'm sure everyone here will give THAT credit to the next GM. That's how it works here, isn't it Moon?
  20. Since you're being snippy....No I'm not f***ING kidding you. You don't thing acquiring Chris Sale was a good move? You're f***ING kidding me right? You think you can acquire a Chris Sale and HIS CHEAP CONTRACT with bunch of f***ing nobodies? I didn't realize Buttery is now a candidate for Cy Young. I'm pretty sure that this board was ecstatic with our outfield trio of Beni, JBJ and Betts. You probably want to trade JBJ for Mike Trout. DD came in to do the job asked. Sox came in dead f***ing last three of four years prior to his arrival. He won three straight Division titles and a World Series. Knowing stand up guys that play for Red Sox, I'm sure every single one of them including Sale, JD and Porcello are pointing fingers at DD for screwing up this season. Yeah, that's it. It's all DD's fault.
  21. No Chris Freakin Sale without giving up Kopech and Moncada. His contract has been team friendly to boot. Lets' see what he does first before we cry like a little baby. How do we know he's not worth his new contract?
  22. Exactly what young players traded away would have helped us this year or next year?
  23. I saw him pitch when I was a little boy living in Ft Knox...
  24. See what happens when we're not competitive? We're talking slow pitch softball.......ugh In our softball league, if you play in a 'lower league',you are allowed to hit 3 home runs, anything after that is an out....how's that for a crazy rule? (it's to prevent ringers from showing up)
  25. Say what you will, but we added Eovaldi to 2018 staff for current season. But it was DD's fault right? I remember everyone talked about how our staff would be one of the best in majors. Sometime it just doesn't work out. It doesn't mean it won't work out in 2020. We're still a playoff contender if JD returns and Betts remains.
