    I still think JBJ can and will be a net positive as a baseball player, but also we do have a Plan B in Duran who either needs a place to play or can be dealt. Right now, I don't get why they are not giving him another chance. Last year's struggles were still in only a little over 100 PA. That's not enough to tell anything either way...

    No. Coming in in the 9th was never a prerequisite for getting a save. In fact, pitching the final 3 innings regardless of the score earns the relief pitcher a save…

    It’s not good. But it’s actually not so uncommon. (And not true per Fangraphs) Fangraphs lists the Sox as having 5 saves and 5 blown saves. They are one of 4 teams with equal saves and blown saves. Minnesota (AL Central first place) and Seattle (AL West 2nd place) are two of the others…

    No hold awarded in that case. Pitchers don’t get holds for preserving ties. In that game, the pitcher is credited with the bizarrely named “blown win”. Noted as a BW on your baseball-reference site…

    They entered the ninth up 6-0 and left it leading 6-5. The White Sox ended that game with the bases loaded, too. Exciting finish but such a letdown at the end…

    But then the problem with vs blown saves is a pitcher can only get a save in the last innning, but can get a blown save any time after the 5th inning. Also a blown save isn’t necessarily a loss. In a 9 inning game, it’s possible for a team to get 4 blown saves and still win the game…
