  1. Sure. See if any of them have potential I’m hoping they add German to the 40 man. As for Ort, this might be his last chance. Why not give him one more shot if the season is lost anyway?
  2. The important thing is, Sawamura and Davis are gone. The next step is to stop pretending Kelly and Ort are permanent additions. One or both could be demoted next week. And then back in two weeks. And the Sox still have one open 40 man roster spot if they want to add another reliever…
  3. Barnes will also very likely be back. I think just add two from Michael Fulmer, Rafael Montero, and Blake Treinen. I am assuming Taylor comes back. And that there will be at least one rookie (Kelly? German?) in the bullpen..,
  4. You do realize the Sox best reliever this year has been a 28yo retread who couldn’t make it in the Tigers’ bullpen and was released after all of 28 career IP? Not to mention Kelly isn’t some 9 year minor league veteran. He played college ball, then spent one season on the A’s system and 2 seasons (in which he played at 4 total levels) in the Angels system…
  5. Not sure why Brasier was spared. No word yet on who is getting called up, but as these two were DFAd, it could be anyone in the organization.
  6. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/08/red-sox-designate-hirokazu-sawamura-for-assignment.html
  7. And keep the long forgotten Josh Taylor, still technically on this team…
  8. And that’s why we kept you out of the lineup today…
  9. Really hoping Sawamura, Brasier and Austin Davis all go after this year, if not sooner…
  10. You? Too negative? No way!
  11. I can understand that. He’sa 30yo pitcher that got released by the Tigers. That’s why I could see Whitlock taking the relief ace role from Schreiber. Schreiber taking a middle relief role from Brasier. And Brasier taking the older Schreiber role and getting released. Then sign two from Fulmer, Montero and Treinen. And the new closer can come from one of those two plus Houck and maybe even Barnes…
  12. Story is sitting today. Arroyo is starting at 2b…
  13. Because Schreiber IS the Relief Ace this season!!! He’s been the guy Cora uses when he thinks the game is on the line, either due to opposing best hitters due up or due to the opposition battering other Sox relievers to make a game too close. For all this bitching that we made the role up on this board, the Sox ARE ALREADY DOING THIS. Did your Eye Test miss that too?
  14. He has a .380 OBP in Worcester after having a .395 OBP in Portland and he’s only 22. I’m not worried yet.
  15. Like I said, look at how the Sox are using Schreiber. Unless you believe the massive coincidence that he has faced Vlad Guerrero 5 times in his 7 appearances against Toronto was simple game script. (Especially since Vlad only played in 6 of those games.)
  16. Tampa, this year, has no designated closer…
  17. The Red Sox have a relief ace RIGHT NOW!! Don’t you watch games?!?!
  18. When was the first time you heard the term “closer?” Was that for Radatz? In don’t think that team came into Vogue until the 1980’s…
  19. The role has been around. And been talked about for years. Sometimes it’s referred to as a high leverage pitcher or high leverage guy. It’s actually pretty silly to constantly argue how important a closer is yet somehow think every at bat up through inning 8 is equal and therefore non-consequential. Not to mention, Schreiber has been doing this role almost all year…
  20. No. The GM before DD’s hire was Matt Klentak, who was more of a DD type. He signed Bryce Harper to a mega extension and traded the farm for JT Realmuto, for example. Of course, DD didn’t replace him. He replaced Andy MacPhail. And while Klentak is no longer GM (Sam Fuld is), he stepped down voluntarily and still works with the Phillies…
  21. Not to mention he inherited a AL West pennant team with a stacked farm and had an enormous budget. Bring him here and you might not see things work out much different…
  22. ?????? Even if you consider Rare Earth a stretch (and they had more than one hit), what about Blood, Sweat & Tears? Somehow they never got in, either…
  23. They get lots of play on XM radio..
  24. It goes to Pham because he has the disadvantage of never getting to face Brasier…
  25. Tull is far and away the most glaring omission. Nothing against PR&R, as I like them. But I’d put them behind Tull and Rare Earth as deserving bands missing from the R&R HOF…
